Agree. Mejia will likely be a September call-up again this year. He's not ready defensively.
As long as the Indians are in the window for a WS title, it'll be tough for Mejia to oust Gomes and/or Perez.
The Tribe had Mejia playing as a 3rd baseman in the Arizona Fall League. There's no denying he has a talent at the plate.

Gomes and Perez are defensive stars. But, I can't see Mejia spending the whole year in the minors. In case you missed it or forgot, when Mejia came up last year, he looked really good at-bat. It seemed like hard line-drives every time he hit the ball. He had very good looking at-bats.

j/c: Best Machado fit might be Cleveland
The Manny Machado trade market has been relatively quiet in recent days, but a number of intriguing destinations remain -- including Cleveland, where his brother-in-law, Yonder Alonso, signed a two-year contract in December. The Indians and Orioles were in contact last month regarding a possible Machado trade, although sources said Friday that the sides aren't actively discussing him now. The Orioles signaled early in the offseason that they are willing to entertain trade offers for Machado. The D-backs have shown the "most persistent" interest in trading for the three-time All-Star, according to MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal. • Hot Stove Tracker On the surface, the Indians and Orioles match up well on a Machado trade. Baltimore has only two proven Major League starting pitchers on its roster -- Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman -- and Cleveland has a surplus of starters. Many in the industry believe the Indians are open to trading right-hander Danny Salazar, a talented yet inconsistent starter who has averaged roughly 120 innings pitched over the past two seasons. A trade of Salazar would signal that the Indians are confident in Mike Clevinger as a full-time starter in 2018; Clevinger compiled a 3.11 ERA in 121 2/3 innings for the Indians during the '17 regular season, mostly as a starter, but pitched out of the bullpen during the Indians' American League Division Series loss to the Yankees. If Machado were traded to the Indians, he'd likely become Cleveland's everyday third baseman, with Jose Ramirez at second base. That would leave Jason Kipnis without an everyday position on the infield, unless he was included in the trade to Baltimore or dealt elsewhere. The Mets nearly acquired Kipnis in a trade earlier this offseason before the deal fell apart, "very likely" for financial reasons, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. Machado and the Orioles avoided salary arbitration last week by agreeing to a one-year, $16 million contract. Machado is on track to become a free agent after the 2018 season; based on recent trades involving J.D. Martinez and Andrew McCutchen, teams are reluctant to pay a high acquisition cost for one year (or less) of control on even the most accomplished position players. Thus far, the Orioles have not made major moves in advance of what's likely to be a pivotal year for the franchise. Machado, center fielder Adam Jones, manager Buck Showalter and executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette all are unsigned beyond 2018. If the Orioles trade Machado now, they could find his long-term replacement in a slow-moving free-agent market that still includes third basemen Mike Moustakas and Todd Frazier. https://www.mlb.com/news/indians-match-up-well-for-manny-machado-deal/c-264948524Although tempting, I don't think this would be a trade the Indians would do considering they wouldn't be able to afford Machado when he becomes a FA next year. That seems like a approach inconsistent to what Antonetti, the Indians, and a mid-market team would do. But you never know.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

If I were the Indians I would do it right now. Their window is open right now and they have to maximize it before the inevitable rebuild. If they can trade for Machado without giving up any of their core, they should do it.

The window is on it's way down...

Noooooooooo! It was bound to happen though.
Conveniently, the season where the Indians host the All-Star game.

I'm mixed that the team will continue to sell Wahoo merchandise. Why continue to sell apparel that obviously isn't appropriate enough for players to wear on the field?

It's a business decision to discontinue Chief Wahoo on the uniforms and hats. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it was a stipulation to host the All-Star game.
I doubt the Indians are doing away with Chief Wahoo as some show of social justice enlightenment.
They'll make a mint this year at the stadium selling Chief Wahoo gear.

That sucks.

I hope they take a long weekend and design a respectable logo that isn't a letter. I would like new merch, but nothing really catches my eye from them.

They would make a ton of money of off selling new merchandise and they already have a team name ready to go (Spiders). This is not that hard.

That sucks. I know, which team will I watch now when I want to see racist caricatures? I don't see it as racist. Caricatures are simply caricatures. They exaggerate the features ... of all people. We have become so sensitive, our skins so thin, that, all too often, we see offense where there is none. People can be, and far to often are, offended by anything. That is a shame.

So you're saying it's not a racist caricature? I don't think that argument can be made. It's literally a red man with a giant nose and a feather. The only arguments that can me made are "tradition" and "PC Police" and neither of those are valid.

Just like the fighting Irishman from Notre Dame or the fat Italian chef with the skinny mustache on pizza boxes from NY to San Diego. You marginalize real racism when you call something as benign as a cartoon logo "racist".

You marginalize real racism when you call something as benign as a cartoon logo "racist". It marginalizes an entire people group into one category. That's racism. When in doubt, offend less people instead of more. People in Cleveland like the logo because they are attached to it. That makes sense. It doesn't make the logo not racist.

Find me one person who thinks that Native Americans have bright red skin. Caricatures always have exaggerated features. That's what makes them caricatures. They are comical depictions.

The whole "irish argument" holds little weight in this country. The Irish weren't exterminated, ended up as victims of genocide, or attacked over blood thirsty manifest destiny because someone's Creator told them it was okay.
And about "no one thinks Indians have redskin"
So, were the early cartoons of blacks okay? Is it okay to draw black characters as having big lips, and big toothy smiles because no one truly believes that?
---------------------------------------
Wahoo would've been gone a long time ago if there were as many Native Americans as there are African Americans/Blacks in this country.

Stupid Arch - I thought Speedy Gonzalez was a good cartoon. I didn't realize how racist it was.
I'm so glad the Indians won't be using that racist logo anymore. It will solve so many problems that certain white and black people have that everything will be fine.......wait. Nah, it won't do diddly crap.

I will make it a point to buy everything I can afford to with Chief Wahoo. I will wear it every chance I can. It is appropriate to wear in every corner of our great country No mater how much you cry about it.

The whole "irish argument" holds little weight in this country. So now you get to tell certain groups when they can or cannot be offended? I find that rather ironic.

No, but they were still brought here as slaves, endured segregation and quite a bit of racism for years after the fact. But I'm glad you're here to tell us which ethnics groups are "good enough" to claim mistreatment.

I'm glad it will be gone. Not only was it long past due, we no longer have to debate it (well, it'll be a hot topic for a few days).
Good riddance.

I like Chief Wahoo and grew up with it. I will miss it and hope to buy some more before he leaves. This logo is a target of convenience. Just a different generation of values. I am not a hater, just an Indians fan all of my life.

I saw these feather logos that have been used in the past. They don't look half bad. I think they have a lot more to offer than the Block C.

Well, Notre Dame is ran by an Irish Priest and the Indians have no Native Americans in their ownership group or upper management. So in your examples the people who are profiting off of these cartoon images are the ethnic groups they are characterizing. Would it be racist if Notre Dames' named all of their intramural teams "WASP" and the logo was George Washington with fake wooden buck trees and a girly wig?

Wasn’t it reported today the team is keeping the trademark rights of the Chief and will continue to sell some chief related items? Sounded like the profiting, even to a small degree would continue.

They can still sell the merchandise, but the team won't wear the logo or use the logo in the stadium. It's basically a PR farce. MLB doesn't actually want to lose money on this.
