Nothing could be further from the truth. Just because many GOP voters decided not to elect a pedophile doesn't mean they turned into Democrats. Had Moore not been a pedophile he would have won by a landslide. Don't fool yourself.

Alabama didn't just turn into a blue state. All the GOP has to do is run decent candidates and they'll win where they always have.

More democrats in Alabama headed to the polls than ever before. Women and minorities in mass. There is a backlash going on in American politics and it isn't looking god for the GOP right now.

You giving republicans any sort of credit for the Doug Jones win is preposterous and just plain wrong. Jones did this to himself and the GOP all on his own.

Actually it's not. Trump won Alabama by around 20 points.

Another thought: this may work to Team Red's advantage, long-term. With Moore's defeat, it spares the GOP Senate from a lengthy ethics probe, further endangering/tarnishing the brand. I seriously doubt that AL will be any less red in 2020, so they have time to find someone- anyone who's a better candidate than Moore.

Another thought: this special election could also serve as a blueprint for more blue wins in this state. From a fb friend who's lived there most of her life:

In the election runoff between Moore and Strange, only 15% of eligible voters bothered to vote. I bet a lot of people wish they had that back. Strange would have won this election by a fairly wide margin.

I'm Republican, but get why Moore was beat. I find it "funny" how women are coming out in DROVES talking about unwanted kisses, butts pinched, etc. from THIRTY/30 years ago.....society has changed since then...slapping a butt or pinching one WASN'T outlandish THEN...JMHO.

Find it very convenient Democrats are raising ethics questions about womanizing when SLICK WILLIE, as sitting President taught all our kids- oral sex is not sex...I had no sexual relationship with that woman.....and all his other "dalliances"- there was a reason for his impeachment proceedings---how he didn't commit perjury is beyond me...but he knows how to debate what the definition of is is......how the world turns.

But you had guys like Mitch McConnell, who once the polls tightened up, backed off from earlier statements that Moore shouldn't be seated (at a time when Moore was nosediving in the polls). The RNC pulled funding when he dipped, and reinstated it when the race got close again.

Every Democratic strategy for the next few years should be blasting that the GOP backed a senile racist with goo for brains and a lawless pedophile who wants to criminalize homosexuality because they saw them as opportunities to win.
