Bengals coach Marvin Lewis plans to leave team, explore other opportunitiesAfter 15 seasons in Cincinnati that have made him the longest-tenured head coach in franchise history, Marvin Lewis is planning to leave the Bengals after this season to pursue opportunities elsewhere, league sources told ESPN. As he has done in the past, Lewis willingly opted to enter 2017 on the final year of his contract, but unlike other years, this time he is planning to leave Cincinnati, sources said. With a flurry of head-coaching openings expected in the coming weeks and a shortage of obvious head-coaching candidates with experience, Lewis is likely to be on teams' short lists of candidates, league sources said. If a head-coaching job does not materialize, sources said Lewis would be interested in working in another team's front office or as a coaching adviser for a former Bengals assistant coach who has gone on to become a head coach, such as Mike Zimmer, whose Minnesota Vikings host the Bengals on Sunday. Not only is Lewis' contract up, but so are those of most, if not all, of the Bengals' assistant coaches. The Bengals have declined to give contract extensions to their assistant coaches, and some are unhappy with the way they have been treated financially, sources said. Amid the uncertainty and potential change, the Bengals are likely to undergo a major overhaul to their coaching staff. Some assistants could wind up staying, but many are expected to leave along with Lewis. When Lewis leaves the Bengals, it will mark the end of a chapter in which Cincinnati returned to prominence but failed to advance in the postseason. When he accepted the job on Jan. 14, 2003, the Bengals were one of the NFL's laughingstock franchises, coming off the worst season in franchise history. Lewis beat out Tom Coughlin and Mike Mularkey for the job and almost immediately remade and elevated the roster. Lewis helped make the Bengals relevant again, but he never led the team to a postseason win. His seven playoff losses, each as disappointing as the next, made Lewis the only head coach in history to lose his first seven postseason games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. But Lewis has compiled a 123-111-3 record that, at a time in which the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens have been among the NFL's elite franchises, was good enough to win the AFC North four times. The Bengals' 2017 season has been defined by disappointment and injuries. When the 5-8 Bengals face the Vikings, they will be without starting cornerbacks Adam Jones, who is on injured reserve, and Dre Kirkpatrick, who has a concussion. Bengals linebackers Vontaze Burfict (concussion), Kevin Minter (hamstring) and Nick Vigil (ankle) also are out. They are expected to get safety Shawn Williams back from a hamstring injury. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21792494/marvin-lewis-planning-leave-cincinnati-bengals-seasonIf I'm Hue, I'm strongly considering asking to be released or traded. Nothing is certain pertaining to his future here, he'd be guaranteed more than one year as a HC if he went to Cincinnati, has a QB he's worked extremely well with in the past, and seemingly has a great relationship with the Brown family. On the flip side, I wonder if Hue would advocate for a Marvin Lewis role here in Cleveland.

Hue has the Browns job, deservedly so. If you wish to debate that please do so. I won't attack you but prepare for a beat down if you do I mentioned Hue or Marvin in my response to you, because after the article, I suggested something about Hue wanting the Bengals job. Add the fact that Hue had an interest in the NY job two years ago. If you noted my commentary after the article, and then commented that "he wants the NY job" I wasn't sure which person you were referring to. Thus, my question.

Actually when I wrote my first post there was only the article.
When I wrote the 2nd post it was after reading (and only reading) your comment about Hue.
Also I just had read and answered a post made by Deputy Dog regarding Hue leaving.
So possibly you took that as an attack from me. As I took it as a slam on Hue leaving us.
Yes, the guys who like to write stories and make up things (bozos) have been saying that Hue is going to be the Next Bengals HC cause they ASSume we will fire him as its taken by the media as something we just do without hesitation. Also they saw that Lewis and his Asst. did not have contracts for 2018 and beyond.
So they ASSumed and made up that story.
Mara's are one of the most stable owners to work for. Although they might be starting something new cause this was a quick hire and fire.
They made a mistake in letting Tom Coughlin go. They should have let him groom their next coach and made him the VP of operations to pick the GM and HC and keep that Football mentality as a thing for their team...similar to how the Steelers have always kept Chuck Noll involved to keep that mentality going.
Giants blew it. Let the search begin.

EO, my comments were included with the article when I started the thread. It was entirely the reason why I posted it. Perhaps you overlooked it.
I did not take your response as an attack. It's all good.

Let the speculation being of a Hue and Bengals reunion.... Lance McAlister Verified account @LanceMcAlister "Jimmy Haslam continues to say Hue Jackson will be back next season. That's not good news for the #Bengals. They were hoping to move on to Hue Jackson," Jay Glazer , FOX NFL Tweet Albert Breer Verified account @AlbertBreer There was a wide-spread feeling around the NFL that Hue Jackson would be the Bengals’ top choice to succeed Marvin Lewis. Browns’ proclamation that they’ll keep Hue complicates that. Tweet

Here's my scenario. May be whack, who knows. I think Williams resigns here for whatever reason he chooses to use. Lewis steps in as DC? Not sure he'd be wanting HC headaches so soon. Not sure he'd get offers.

If we're lucky, Hue Jackson will want the job, and he'll take Williams with him.
The Ravens game was impossible. Combined with their actions in the media, it's become impossible to not confront the reality that the coaching staff is utterly dreadful.
I had such high hopes for Hue, but I was dead wrong. He's trash.

I had such high hopes for Hue, but I was dead wrong. He's trash. What about the first quarter. They were down 3-0 in the first quarter. They had 2 three and outs early, apparently, and they had not yet had the disadvantage of the 4 turnovers. What about the stop on the goalline in the first half, early 2nd or late 1st quarter, what about coming back to take a 7-3 lead before they scored again quickly.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Taking the occasional good play from the players and attributing all success to Hue Jackson, while dismissing any issues as not his own, is your own decision. I'm just tired of playing that game. To each his own. At the end of season two, I want to see a hell of a lot more. Hue Jackson is useless.

Bengals' Lewis denies report he's leaving at end of season https://www.thescore.com/nfl/news/1448640Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is refuting a pregame report that he plans to leave the team at the end of the season. The 34-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, which dropped the Bengals to a record of 5-9, seems to have changed the tune of the seemingly frustrated head coach. Lewis has not decided to leave the struggling Bengals, telling reporters that this morning's report is not true. "It's the same comment we've had since August. We have no comment about the future, we'll deal with the future when the future arrives," Lewis said, according to Lance McAlister of 700 WLW. The Bengals gave up 17 points in the first quarter and didn't score what would be their only touchdown until the fourth. Lewis told Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer that he doesn't think his reported comments affected the players.

Could Browns trade Hue Jackson to Bengals?. Posted by Mike Florio on December 17, 2017, 5:56 PM EST http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/12/17/could-browns-trade-hue-jackson-to-bengals/The Browns have been sending out mixed signals regarding whether they want to keep coach Hue Jackson. With Marvin Lewis reportedly out in Cincinnati (although he denies that he’s leaving), a theory/hypothesis is emerging in some league circles. What if the Browns try to trade Jackson to the Bengals? Trades for head coaches remain permissible, although they don’t happen in the same way that player trades occur. First, the teams involved strike a deal regarding compensation in the event a contract can be negotiated between the new team and the coach. Second, the new team tries to work out a contract with the coach. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has twice said publicly that he wants Jackson to return in 2018. One league source told PFT that Haslam is saying the same thing privately. But new G.M. John Dorsey recently evaded during a radio interview a direct question about whether Jackson will be back. So maybe the Browns are being inconsistent as a message of sorts to a team that would be inclined to add to Cleveland’s current draft haul in order to get Jackson. And if Lewis, who is on the record as being willing to consider taking a role somewhere in personnel, decides to become the G.M. or something like it in Cincinnati (and if Cincinnati wants him in that role), the Bengals could make Hue the coach and move forward with both guys working together. This isn’t a report that something like that will happen. But it’s definitely something to keep an eye on as the coaching carousel prepares to hit full speed. And as the Browns speed toward 0-16.

Bengals probably have no interest in Hue and they are letting Lewis walk so I imagine he’ll be our asst HC next season.

Bengals had planned to have Hue be Marvin's successor when Marvin retired. They were very sad to see Hue go. Their change in record reinforced the fact that they loved having Hue since they have gone down the drain since he left them.
Only Brown's fan would be stupid enough to not want him. Probably the same stupid fans that didn't want Jimmy G.
