My feeling is selecting QB's is as much about luck as it is about scouting. You can look at many players who checked all the boxes and never really panned out as expected. On the other hand you have many guys who didn't check all the boxes and ended up great. From our vantage point, even if we get all the measurable from film 100% correct. We still have no idea about the person. And even people that meet the prospect for 15 minutes or a couple of hours can't say they 'know' the person. I would say a QBs success is part physical skillset, part personal and part about the quality of the team/coaching that drafts them. Imho; ultimately the personal differences between people has more to do with their success or failure as NFL prospects then their physical skillset.

Which brings it back around to how we handle whomever we pick. I think the worst move we made last off-season was releasing McGown. We wasn't going to lead us to the promised land, but he was a solid example to a young QB for how to go about the job of being an NFL QB. I think that bringing in the right vet to be a role model is just as important as drafting the right rookie.

I know we all love to debate our QBs each year, but I truly believe that there really isn't a debate because Rosen is so far superior to the other qbs.
Sashi is gone. We have a real football guys in there w/Dorsey and Highsmith. Hue will love Rosen's accuracy and ability to make all the throws.
It's a no-brainer. Rosen will be Chosen!!!

Whats going to interesting going down QB Lane , is tracking this class in the years to come .. I love it when Posters stick their necks out by speaking in absolutes about players .. I have a couple of Non Rosen or Darnold that I feel have a chance to be good at the next level .. Watching were they are drafted and how they progress over the early years will br fun to observe ..

Quite frankly there is no clear cut Luck, Payton Manning in this draft. Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield are not your stand out best QBs. Actually if Mayfield was 6'3" plus he would be that guy for automatic overall #1 pick but the fact is he isn't.
So there will be questions on him as a pocket passer and working from under center. Although his ball skills are excellent. Play action from him is a little better than from other QBs I have seen.
Looks like all are coming out. All I heard was Darnold wasn't coming out and yet there he is coming out.
I wish Browning was coming out I think he is going to be a great NFL QB. He has recovered from his shoulder surgery and probably will be the overall #1 pick next season.
What I do know. Is when Hue says he likes Wentz this time, his GM will trust his evaluation and get him the QB that he wants. Not trade back for more picks cause we got a lot of holes!!

JC...
Does anyone whom has watched Lamar Jackson know if this is factual...That this past year (2017 season) He played with all freshman WR, exception was one junior WR? Was only wondering, and I know he isn't in debate for #1 overall.

I looked it up and his top 4 WRs in catches were a Jr, Fr, So, and Jr, also his TE was a Sr.

This debate will blaze on till draft day.
When you look at college production unless you are locked into the teams and really know the roster there is a ton of roster movement; production can easily vary.
It happened with Josh Allen.
Darnold did not peak as a freshman. For crying out loud he is 20 years old. To say that his trajectory is somehow less than Rosen's is ridiculous. Who won more games?

yea some of the comparisons is....eh.
Darnold has more grind, but Rosen has pure talent. the key is if Rosen has what it takes to tap into that talent at the nfl level, cause he could be a goat, or he could be a nasty bust.
Darnold...i dunno. i like his leadership style, and he definitely has more results.
however, once again, i think the two QB's who have a chance to be really good aren't getting talked about all that much: mayfield and Jackson.
just like watson, people somehow think hes needs to swap positions. Mayfield is getting busted down because of his height and character concerns.
Darnold didn't peak. not remotely, but he did regress a bit.

I'm not a film study fan. I watch games, read other peoples opinions based on film study (it helps me with what to watch for), and form my own semi-informed opinion.
I don't think we can go wrong picking either Rosen or Darnold. I think Rosen is the more technically precise thrower and that will take him a long way. Darnold isn't as good with the technical precision, but he plays with more athleticism and a huge amount of heart. And in my mind, that gives him a higher ceiling than Rosen. Again, this is just my semi-informed opinion. And I'm not saying Rosen doesn't have heart, I just think Darnold has more.
I will keep switching back and forth between the 2, probably right up to the pick. But for right this minute, I prefer Darnold's heart.

College QBs are so hard to evaluate these days, with the newer offenses being run, disparity of competition, lack of pro style offenses and concepts. It all makes picking a guy a crap shoot. Nobody knows who will be good or who won’t. I’ll defer to Dorsey on this and hope the guy he picks is our QB for awhile.

I agree for the most part. The only exception is when a guy plays in a pro-style offense. And that is one of the reasons I like Rosen so much. I've actually seen him make pre and post-snap reads. I've seen him go through his progressions. I've seen him look off the coverage. I've seen him throw w/anticipation.

While I do have questions about Rosen, I have to agree, he is the best in the draft in those regards. I may not like him quite as much as you do, but the kid can spin it. I think a good comp for him would be Eli. I think Rosen might be a touch more accurate(coming out of college) but both are drop back QBs who aren’t gonna threaten anyone with their running ability. Which is why I think there are rumors about the Giants wanting him, seem less transition for them. Ultimately it’ll depend on who Dorsey likes. I’ll defer to him on this.
I will add that if wants to win right away which he has kinda stated I believe a veteran who can take over for possibly this coming year and maybe more depending on who it is and how he plays is more likely the route we go. I know you hope Rosen starts sooner rather then later but I wouldn’t have a problem with him or any other QB sitting if we are winning with a veteran.
I believe Dorsey will pick who he likes, but most of the QBs he’s picked have had some mobility, and have had good ability to throw on the run, I’m not sure if that will factor in to how he sees the QBs this year or not, but that’s not Rosen’s forte. Like I said I’ll defer to Dorsey on this.

At #1 I'm leaning towards Sam Darnold. He's only 20 and he has a greater upside. He probably would most benefit sitting a season if we go out and get a good Vet QB.
Considering he really didn't play QB till his Jr. year of HS. Very coachable and tough as nails. Has a Blue Collar mentality. Would prosper in our division. I'm hoping he will be our pick at #1...if we fall in love with Mayfield then its a drop back situation. And we take him at #4.

What do people think the odds are that a QB slides? It hasn't really happened in years but I remember Aaron Rodgers and Brady Quinn dropping deeper into the first round than expected like it was yesterday. Getting progressively more uncomfortable. Some go-fer offering to escort them to a different room.
ANYWAY, could anyone, I'm thinking Darnold, possibly slide and be there at pick 4?

I love Rosen as a pure passer but Hue is showing that he likes mobility. Dorsey loves mobility. I Know Dorsey is also huge on total QBR and no one has been better in total QBR than Mayfield.
I still think we are gonna go Darnold but combines are gonna be huge. Hand size is something packers scouts favor more than anyone and that follows Dorsey. Gonna be interesting, cant wait for senior bowl.

1. Rosen
2. Mayfield 3. Jackson
4. Darnold
5. Allen I should amend this and say that if we have a legit veteran QB (of which there are not very many), then I'd put Darnold second. His ceiling is the highest.
