Caldwell got fired in Detroit. I wouldn't mind Jimmy Haslam opening the cheque book for Jim Bob Cooter to come in as OC. Matt Stafford is lobbying the Lions to retain him, apparently, but I'd love to see the Browns make a play.

Last I heard from him, his newborn was taking up all his time. The off season is when I miss the guy the most because he put in a lot of time evaluating draft prospects. He's helped change my mind on a few players because he saw something that I didn't and he brought more than a few players that I hadn't looked at to my attention.

Isnt this the job that guy Eliot Wolf (Ron Wolf's Son) was being groomed for?

Yes. He seems like the most likely candidate. My bet is that John Dorsey would have been an option for that job if he were still available.

I think Dorsey knew that was probably Wolf's job, and that's why he took this one. Maybe he even talked to Ted Thompson before accepting our job

Terryl Austin is said to be a candidate some places, but the crappy thing for him is you don't know if the interest is real or if it's just the Rooney Rule. If I were a minority, I think I'd actually dislike that rule

Anyone think with Lewis leaving Cinnci we HUE is going to want some of their asst coaches for the O?

If we hire an OC we letting them hire their asst coaches?

If Hue and Lewis who are good friends want to team up again with Lewis being his DC then I can see the swap there.

I don't think this will be done without the considerations of Hue involved.

Just thinking out loud...frankly I think the tweet is rumor crapola.

But it is important for the HC to be comfortable - most of the asst coaches around the league are pretty good. You need the correct ones for your comfort levels of what to be taught here.

I don't know what part of this you don't understand. Corporations come out with the company line that everyone sticks with. Depodesta was the first one that publicly stated that Wentz wasn't considered a top 20 QB. You know, the analytics guy.

How do you know Silver didn't ask him? And why would Hue publicly deviate from the company line?

All it says is that Jackson and the Browns had no intention of drafting Wentz. It most certainly does not say that Hue didn't want Wentz or that it was Hues decision not to draft Wentz.

You're reaching for something that isn't there.

Mike Silver has said that Hue Jackson didn't think Carson Wentz was worth the #2 pick.

Would it have been smart of Sashi Brown, a brand new GM, to force a QB, with the #2 pick, on his brand new head coach (who is supposed to be the QB expert)?

I don't want to absolve Sashi Brown of any wrongdoing. He did plenty wrong. He missed on QBs left and right, he didn't re-sign good players, the team he built did not play well, etc. But that doesn't mean Hue Jackson has done nothing wrong. The blame should be spread far and wide.

You keep missing the order of who said what and when.

Let me ask you a question here......

AFTER Depodesta said that Wentz wasn't a top 20 QB, what exactly did you expect Hue to say?

"Well, I wanted Wentz but those damn numbers guys outvoted me and they passed on him"????

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that's what happened. But what I do know, is that Hue wasn't going to tell any reporter anything that contradicted what the FO had said in regards to Wentz.

Surely you're not so blind that you can't see that.

He literally tweeted that out. Really hard for anyone to say that Jackson wanted Wentz. He clearly did not.

A little disconcerting how many excuses there are for Jackson. It seems everyone, ever, did the exact opposite of what Jackson wanted.

Silver was at it as recently as last month.

Quote:
Michael Silver Retweeted Gabriel
I have never changed my take. Hue liked Wentz, didn't think he'd be a good pick at 2 (obviously he proved to be). He LOVED Goff... wanted him badly. No change.

And yet that doesn't even resemble his other tweets on the subject. Sounds like he changed his tune on what was or wasn't said.

How? It doesn't resemble saying that Hue Jackson didn't think Carson Wentz was worth the #2 pick?

Here is Silver literally saying that Hue Jackson didn't think Carson Wentz was worth the #2 pick.

Quote:
I talked to Hue Jackson about Wentz many, many times pre-draft. Jackson never disparaged his ability. Thought 2 was too high to take him.

True. It's funny though. A lot of QB's taken in the top 5 really aren't the best players on the board. They're taken because their position is the most highly regarded in the NFL. It raises their draft stock every year.

I'll tell you what you do. You take everything that every team tells the press for the next six months about the draft as gospel. You be sure and believe everything they say. Pretend that they're not smoke screens and deception about what their actual intents and evaluations are. Be sure to quote them as truth.

See how that works for you. And BTW - there are no actual quotes in that tweet.

So we've established that Hue made a bad QB choice and Sashi was made the scapegoat for it.

I'd call that progress in this place.

The day that Carson Palmer retires, Marvin Lewis gets a new contract extension. Cincinnati is something else.

LOL, I'll bet Brown wants Hue or Jay Gruden but is too cheap to give up a draft choice for either. He'll string this out another year and hope one of them gets fired.

No, you have made a feeble attempt to say Hue was the problem when sashi was the one who got fired. Zero common sense.
