I don't watch or care about college football, so at this time of year I depend on others to inform me.
I think we need one, a shutdown corner, so who are the best corners coming out next year?

Other than Ward (OSU - 5'10" - 191 lbs), I believe these are the consensus best to get in the first 2 rounds.

Joshua Jackson - Iowa - 6'1" - 192 lbs
Levi Wallace - Alabama - 5'10" - 191 lbs
Tarvarus McFadden - Florida State - 6'2" - 198 lbs
Isaiah Oliver - Colorado - 6'1" - 190 lbs
Jordan Wyatt - Southern Methodist - 6'0" - 192 lbs

Assuming the top JRs declare, this year's CB draft class is going to be awesome. Might have 10+ w/ top-50 grades. And Denzel Ward is a top-3 CB.

Denzel is just so good at turning his head around, spotting the ball all the while keeping up the hand checking of the WR. I've never seen another corner as good as he is at that.

I guess it depends where you look. Jackson is listed as the 7th best prospect at corner on Walters. Ken Webster of Ole'Miss is listed #1 above Ward.

No matter, there are some good ones, and we should be able to get 1. We also have to hold hope that the corner we IR'd, Jordon Howard maybe? Last year was a very deep class, he could be be pretty good.

I would consider FA Minkah Fitzpartick from Bama with out 2nd 1st rounder, but we will probably go QB and WR in the 1st.

Maybe he drops, or maybe at 10 that is too high. I am down with trading some of these picks to move up this year.

Just talking now...I think we go QB with the first pick and trade down with the Houston pick.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I think the only 2 sites I looked at for that list was CBS and Drafttek. Not sure if the order was the same for both sites.

Fitzpatrick projects into more of a FS imo.........and that is by far our largest non-QB need again imo. My dream draft would be

1 Rosen
1b MF

That would be huge in building this team, and it wouldn't hurt if they would package a couple of those extra picks for another 1st to grab Ward or Ridley if they fall into the 20s.

One interesting things about Alabama cornerbacks is that they do not teach back peddling as part of their man coverage technique. Instead the corners shuffle with the WRs.

I also think he's more of a FS.

I did not see CB Denzel Ward in warmups. OSU said all their players potentially headed to the NFL would play, but he's the one who seemed mostly likely not to if anyone didn't.

Did anyone else notice that when they showed Ward on the sideline early in the game that it looked like he went to give a fist bump and he got ignored?

I think Ward is really talented, would love to have judged him on tonight's big stage though...I wonder what he measures at, looks alot smaller than the listed 5'11...

I like the Ole Miss corner if he's there in mid rounds...

NOT totally sold on Fitzpatrick from Alabama..taking him that high then converting him to a FS, I still a translation and a project...higher bust rate and lord knows we have enough of them here. Then again players wi rise or drop so much from now till draft day.

Have only just started looking around but I like Ward, Jackson and Oliver as picks in the first 65. Jackson has 8 INTs on the year. Will look further but one of those guys in the top 4 picks and I'd be happy.

Draftek has us taking Darnold, Ridley, Jackson and Nnandi. I don't like the last pick - I don't think 3T is a glaring need.

I have a good feeling about the guy from Iowa whose name I'm forgetting. This in spite of his 2017 stats being extra padded by J.T. Barrett. wink

I watch the Big Ten over all other conferences and IMO Josh Jackson is the real deal he is always tight in coverage and fits the words Ball Hawk ...

I am at the point with this position where I am as far as I will ever get with measurables with any position.

If they can't run, they can't play.

3 cone
40
20 split
Sparq

This is where it comes into play. If you can't run, change direction and open your hips I am not interested no matter how good you were in college.

Yes they are, who’s their coach? Ferentz or something like that? I think he’s coached in the nfl before.

Kirk Ferentz.

He coached here in Cleveland under Belichick.

That staff included Ferentz, Nick Saban, Ozzie Newsome, Scott Pioli, Mike Tannebum, Thomas Dimitroff, Jim Scwartz, Mike Lombardi, Phil Savage, Eric Mangini, etc.

That might have been the greatest staff ever assembled in the NFL. The Browns would have won multiple Super Bowl titles w/that group, but of course, the fans and media freaked out because BB chose Vinny over Bernie and then the city invested in the Tribe but not the Browns and Art bailed.

Oh............what could have been....

Minkah is a corner IMO. He is Jalen Ramsey 2.0, better ball skills though.

As others have mentioned, Ward and Jackson are the other 2 in my top 3. Ward is a complete corner and Jackson has the best ball skills in the draft

you had a good run Hank.

Ward, Jackson and Oliver. I don't think we have a shot in hell for any of these guys.

All 3 are probably Top 20.

Who's next on the list?

I'm praying we ink a high dollar Corner in FA, snag Fitzpatrick at 4 and a 1st round graded Corner falls to us at 33.

Who though?

That's a serious infusion of talent to the Secondary.

Everyone is saying Dorsey loves Corners. That's a good sign.

I trade up to get one of them if need be. McCourty has been good but he has mileage on him. We need 2 legit starting CBs with Taylor, BBC and hopefully Wilson as depth. I’d say CB and FS are after QB are biggest needs in making us competitive. I think the Notre Dame receiver,Brown, may drop due to production last year which was not his fault but he may end up one of the better receivers in the class. He may be there in the 2nd.

On first pass through sites, etc, I like these guys after the initial 3 as mid round selections based on the info available. This is just an initial glance. I do like guys who are eligible for the senior bowl. I was high on Rasul Douglas, for example, and he boosted that with his performances at practices / game -

- Jaire Alexander, Louisville, 5-11, 192, JR
5 INTs in 2016, dinged up this year.
- Kameron Kelly, San Diego State, 6-2, 195, SR
Had 3 INTs in 2017, 5 in 2016. Projects as a press CB which Williams likes. Will be at the senior bowl.
- Holton Hill, Texas, 6-3, 200, JR
Was suspended final 3 games but lots of good reviews of his play against good receivers.
- Darius Williams, UAB, 5-10, 190, SR
