Browns Chat still down. Morton was a busy little poster today.

Does anyone feel Quinn should be paid like a top three pick or even top ten?

I am not highjacking this thread. This thread was just a celebration of our signings of JT and EW, BTW YES! both are going to make an immediate impact.

No, I think he should be paid bonus money in line with the 15th pick and have incentives that are $5-10 million better than what Rodgers and Losman have.

I don't understand why people are willing to pay him so much more than where he was drafted. he was drafted at the number 22 spot and should be paid accordingly. I could even live with giving him a small bump up in bonus and some incentives so that if he performs, he gets paid, but there is no reason to give him a bonus equal to a player drafted 7 spots ahead of him.

Cuz he's a QB and I wanna get this deal done without an extended holdout.

Good thing you're not running things.

Overpaying for anything is plain stupidity.

He was drafted at 22. He should get paid 22 money. If the brat can't accept that....then he's a dumbass.

Even as a QB, he shouldn't be paid that much more than his draft position. I'm all for a small bump up because he is a OB, and built in incentives, but paying him that much extra just to get him to camp isn't the way to go. He probably won't start this year anyway, so while getting him in camp on time is great, its not a necessity.

If these are in and Quinn can't see the reasons he was certainly NOT in the top ten on D-day, then we are done. Make an offer or counter and wait. see what ESPN will give us for him. REMEMBER!

I'm in the minority on this, but quite frankly, he could sign a 5 year $50 million deal for all I care as long as the majority of that money is in incentives.

Seriously, would anyone complain if the incentives were "throw for 25 TD's and under 15 INT's, and make the Pro Bowl?"

um no... we stepped in front of Balt offering more... he was getting picked at 22 it was just a question of by what team.. we gave up more so we got him instead of Balt.

For all of you guys who think he was going to fall out of the first round are nuts...everyone knows that Baltimore was trying to trade with the Cowboys/the Chiefs (I think they were right behind the Cowboys)

Look at QB usually always gets more than the typical position. If you don't think I'm right lets look at Russell's contract when it gets done( We will compare to per year and bonus to what Super Mario got. )

I think too many people are Pro-Frye and Con-Notre Dame

Look holdouts with QBs happen all the time. You are all acting like this is the first time a 1st rounder has ever held-out. Shoot our 3rd rounder held out last year.

Look if you were his agent and lets say by some freak of nature Quinn has a career ending injury in week 5 year 3 wouldn't you want to look Quinn in the eyes and say I got you the best deal possible at the time..?

The Cleveland Browns reached an agreement in principle Thursday night with left tackle Joe Thomas, the third pick in the NFL draft.

Although they still have to work out some contract language and other items to finish the deal, Thomas agreed to a five-year deal that could max out at $42.5 million. Included in the deal are guarantees of around $22-$23 million.

Thomas hopes to compete the deal and be on the practice field Friday morning.

The Browns are also close to getting a deal with second-round choice Eric Wright. That deal is expected to be done by Friday morning, leaving quarterback Brady Quinn as the only holdout.

Thomas's deal opens as a six-year contract, but it has a clause that will void out the sixth year and allow him to play five seasons.

this would set a very bad precedent! The other owners would be crying "Foul!" The slotting system is the way to go. IMHO Go Brownies!!!

I think the case can and will be made that he should get around #12 money, due to the importance of the position and the fact that it is the point where the Browns started trying negotiate a deal to get back into the first. JMHO, but I think that about what he'll get too, not #3, but certainly not #22 money.

It's great we got the big fella Joe in on time, he was the guy I prayed we'd take at #3. I'm also pleased Wright won't miss any camp. Good job savage

After only 2 celebratory beers.. and ahem, some Beam shottage.. I've come to decide that if the Browns offer BQ #20 cabbage I'm okay with that. Just sign the deal and get the Camp on with.

I think once Reggie Nelson, #21 pick by Jacksonville is signed and Condon (Quinn's agent) is finished with his business with the St. Louis Rams which probably might be the week-end (speculation only) you will see the Browns and Condon start serious negotiations then. The kid wants to play so bad for his childhood idols and a deal will get done by guessing I would say middle to the end of next week. JMHO

I would love to see Quinn get signed and be in town tomorrow for the start of camp, but I'm not overly worried if he isn't.

Quinn isn't about '07 anyway... he is '08 and beyond.

It's driving me crazy.

Like i said, I don't care how much incentive money we give as long as the guaranteed money remains reasonable.

If he reaches the incentives (assuming they're tough incentives), he'll be worth every dime.

Thomas, Wright agree to terms
Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
07.26.2007
The Browns agreed to terms with first-round pick Joe Thomas and second-rounder Eric Wright Thursday night, and both are expected to be signed and present when full-squad training camp opens Friday afternoon.

Thomas, the draft's third overall pick, and Wright, whom the Browns traded back into the second round to get, will enter camp for fighting for starting jobs at their respective positions.

Thomas is set to sign a six-year deal that's voidable after five. Wright will sign for four years.

The Browns picked Thomas with hopes of making him the "franchise" left tackle they haven't had since returning to the league in 1999. The former Wisconsin standout combines great size (6-foot-6, 315) and strength with rare athleticism.

A three-year starter at Wisconsin, Thomas was a consensus All-American and won the Outland Trophy as the nation's outstanding lineman last fall.

The drafting of Wright filled a pressing need for the Browns and also gave them one of their top-ranked players remaining in the draft at any position. Wright (5-foot-10, 195) was one of the most athletically gifted cornerbacks available in this draft and will enter camp looking to build on an outstanding spring he had participating in OTA practices and a pair of minicamps.

Wright, who turned 22 earlier this week, played just 22 college games at USC and UNLV before entering the draft. He started as a freshman on USC's 2004 national championship team, then played nine games at UNLA last fall.

He figures to battle Kenny Wright and Daven Holly for the starting job opposite Leigh Bodden.

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/article.php?id=6969

basicly the only significance of this is that it emphasizes that Thomas signed a 6 year deal with an option for the final year and that Wright is signing a 4 year deal.

If BQ signs for anything more than #22 money the other 31 owners will be all over the Browns FO. I'm of the opinion look at last years 22 and offer a 3% raise to it and call it a day, as long as it fits between 21 and 23.

As for speculation of him sitting out a year and entering the '08 draft, he wouldn't even go in the 1st. You've got Brohm, Henne, Brennan, Booty, Ainge, Ryan, and Woodson all coming off a full season of football with Quinn sitting home watching.

Great news on the signings. Looking forward to seeing these guys make meaningful contributions on Sundays.

As for Quinn, I couldn't care less what he signs for dollar wise. That's for Phil and Condon to hammer out. Just get it done. I want to see the Browns start the season with all hands on deck...a roster of the best players we have.

Go Browns!!

I'm planning on going up to TC on August 1. I hope I can see all 3 top picks in action.

Like most, I'm glad we have these 2 locked up. I also felt like they could contribute immediately or atleast their chances are better. Quinn, I'm not too worried about at the moment. We'll see how Frye and Anderson look in TC, if they stink, then I'll get concerned.

3%? That's it? That would be a lowball offer by the browns and it's not even close.
