To be as fair and balanced as i can....I do think the playoff system is flawed.

Not so much in the manner in which they select the 4 teams, it is flawed because they need to expand beyond 4 teams.

I would like to see it expanded to maybe 8 teams. That would add only 1 more layer of games building to the championship. The NCAA can't tell me that couldn't happen.

I suppose you could always say somebody was left out, but 8 seems like a good number. At least at that point you have given 4 more teams a chance to make a claim. It could also include a 2 loss team like OSU where as it stands, 2 losses pretty much dooms your chances. Also, once you get down to the 9th best team as determined by whatever criteria, the argument is weakened as compared to a team deemed #5 who also has 1 loss...or even 2 losses for that matter.

No way 1 more level of games would impact anything except provide a more balanced playoff system.

In some years it works out, but in most years, you have 2-3 teams left out who gave it all and for whatever reason, are a few computer points behind 1 of the 4 who made it.

Eight teams. It needs to be eight teams.

If this happens, don't they have to play each other in the conference championship?

Let me rephrase that.

They should play each other in their conference championship.

And if this is so, one wins and goes on to represent the conference in the National Championship Series.

This makes "one team from conference" sense.

Even if going forward the conference champion is more heavily favored against a "lesser" non-conference opponent.

Hey, this happens all the time in the current MLB play-offs.

Sometimes that "lesser" opponent wins the Worrld Championship.

No, they can be in the same division of a conference.

To get to one true Champion even if the best 2 teams come from the same division of a conf. 1 would get eliminated when they do not win their division.

I think they should allow all 5 Power 5 Conf Champions in the Playoffs. That way there are actually 10 teams in the playoffs because the Conf Championship games would be the first round.

The next day is when all of the bowl games are announced. At that time the 5 conf champs will be ranked 1 thru 5.

4 will play 5 two weeks later on the first Saturday of Bowl games. This year it would have been OSU vs USC.

Then on Jan 1 the winner of that game would play the #1 overall ranked team. This year it would have been OSU vs Clemson.

The other game would be the #2 vs #3 which was Georgia vs Oklahoma.

The only difference would have been the winner of OSU vs Clemson would be playing Georgia Monday night for the National Championship.

I am a fan of an SEC team and actually love seeing Alabama vs Georgia Monday night but I just feel that if Alabama could not win the SEC West, could not win the SEC Championship. Why should they have a chance to win a National title? It just sends the wrong message to me.

Maybe a better way would be if 2 teams tie for a division title like Alabama and Auburn this year and Ohio State and Penn State last year the team with the better overall record should be the 1st tie breaker to ensure the better team plays in the Conference Championship game.

The problem is Alabama is the best team out there.

Anyway, we have been through all of this before. I am not going to get in to this debate very deep. I will leave it as i started it, the format needs to expand to 8 teams. That way all of the teams being pimped to get in, get in. Sounds fair to me.

If you are sitting at 9th in the country, well ok, you lose out, but somebody is always going to lose out no matter how many teams you include. At least with 8 teams, most reasonable fans would agree you probably got the best of the best. That way a 2 loss Buckeye teams gets in, a Bama who didn't win the SEC gets in...

Problem is, the NCAA doesn't want fair. They want sound bites. And the controvery does that.

Well, I think this is the problem.

I think the Championship series should be comprised of teams from different conferences.

The best team (one) from each of the represented conferences.

I agree - I just wish they'd stop playing these games on Monday nights. (I have to be up at 5AM weekdays.) National Championship games are made for Friday nights, IMO. Anyway, I'm rooting for Georgia. I like those two RBs (Michels & Chubb) and their young QB (Fromm?) looks pretty special too.

I agree, but I also know Friday and Saturday nights are terrible ratings nights.

Should be a good game tomorrow night.

Still also laughable that Alabama is playing in this game, despite them not doing a damn thing to earn their way into the playoff.

The Oklahoma/Georgia game was a damn blast. Games like that are what makes college football my favorite watch.

Thought Clemson had their chances, but you just knew not having Watson was eventually going to bite them. That turnover on the batted pass was killer. Just a hell of a play by the Alabama DL.

I agree, this shouldn't be a Monday night game. I love the New Year's Day format (I think they learned their lesson last year trying to play the semis on NYE), but I would love to see the game pushed back a few days to the following Friday.

It won't happen, because Monday is a better ratings day than Friday and Saturday. Sunday is the best ratings day, but you don't want to battle with the NFL. It's probably not changing. At best you may see a Thursday night national championship game someday.

I expect a pretty good game.

Just curious, is anyone actually watching the national championship? Other than me but I could really care less. This is one boring damn game.

Georgia’s QB really sucks.

He’s definitely better than Hurts though

Me too. So tired of the almost annual 'Bama automatic appearance in the play offs.

Saban panicking bringing in the Fr. QB to start the second half? Alabama definitely out of sorts.

j/c:

I am not positive, but I don't think the Georgia guy was off-sides on that punt block. In fact, I think an Alabama guy flinched and that the Georgia guy was moving but was still behind the LOS.

I could be wrong, though.

First look.

Well, I'm watching it. Being in Atl, everyone has been off their rôcker nuts about this game.

Upon further review, you were correct. Even the announcers were calling it a false start at first.

That was an Eli Manningesque escape on that third down conversion.

Kinda heartbreaking to have to watch a college game to see good QB play like that.
