You would think Hue's ego would have taken enough of a beating the last 2 years, but I see that hasn't happened. No wonder his parents named him Huebris.

Should hiring a HC be the GMs call as well? It might be Dorsey's call a year from now if Hue can't get some Ws on the board next season.
Myself, I see this 2018 season as a "show me" year for Hue..he has to produce something. Hue has definitely made some mistakes these past 2 seasons. He needs to show that he is improving. Smarter decisions, fewer blatant mistakes, a more discipline, and better offensive game plans.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

All coaches make mistakes. All players make mistakes. All FO guys make mistakes. All of the people in the entire world make freaking mistakes.
However, very few people are unfairly attacked for those mistakes and have to deal w/blanks who are actively trying to get them fired.
Think about it.........on another thread, we had a poster say something like: "how is Hue going to worm his way out of this one?" Worm? Seriously, he used the word "worm!" LMAO
And what does it say about the people who are posting multiple posts per day that are asking for another man to lose his job? It's not just criticism w/some of these guys. It's not just discussing football. It's a freaking crusade. They are actually dedicating a ton of time and effort to get a person fired.
Classy!

Classy! No one is rooting for Hue to fail. Many people feel he should be fired, and that's understandable. He's 1 - 31 in Cleveland. It's not all his fault, but he obviously hasn't been good either. You make and made several posts a day about Sashi as well, yet somehow act like you act better than others.

I only wonder if Hue feels in the least bit guilty when he looks all these coaches in the eyes and tells them they aren't good enough to be on his staff?
What about those coaches and their families when those guys have to go home and tell the wife they didn't measure up to Hue's standards?

Good timing...LOL
Three of them posted right after you did. It isn't football talk. Instead, it's character assassination.
And I do not make "several posts a day about Sashi." In fact, I'm going to ask you to prove it. Please show us all of the posts I made about Sashi today.
And if you wanna play this game, I will re-post several posts from today by a poster or two where they are bashing Hue.
Criticizing a guy during the course of a topic is one thing. That is good for debate. However, going on a crusade and twisting things around to attack the character of a man and lobbying for him to be fired is quite another thing.

It really isn't assignation....I think about those assistants who gave it their all and didn't make the cut. Did they all suck and Hue didn't?
Just saying my friend. Hue hired all of those guys.
Now they all suck and Hue is scott free???
Sorry, I don't buy it?
What about all those guys? Any comments???
It's sad is my comment

I think that the team has talent, but no real QB.
I look at the 49ers. They stunk for the 1st 10 or 11 weeks of the season. They then installed Garappolo at QB, and rattled off 5 or 6 wins in a row, to end the season.
They had a new coach. Did Shanahan suck for the 1st 10 or so weeks, or did he get the right QB, who elevated the rest of the team? I think that we can all answer that question.
Either you have a QB, or you do not. We did not. If we find one, the team will do much better, and the coaches will appear to be much more brilliant. If not, then the coach will be fired. We have seen it go on and on over the past almost 2 decades.

[Hue Jackson is] also still evaluating whether or not to hire an offensive coordinator and give up playcalling duties. He interviewed Texans QB coach Sean Ryan this week, but Ryan, who wants to call plays for the first time, left without a contract. Jackson, who's willing to surrender playcalling duties to an experienced coordinator, will likely interview others. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2018/01/browns_coach.htmlThe above paragraph makes a lot of sense. If I were Hue Jackson I wouldn't want my fate partially decided by an offensive coordinator who has never called plays before. Especially if I, meaning Hue Jackson, felt that I was very good at calling plays. Wanting an experienced play caller is a tricky situation. I don't see many guys wanting to walk into a potentially volatile situation. Hue Jackson, and his staff, will have massive amounts of pressure on them next year. Why sign up for that?

My brother in law is a steeler's fan, he jokes about how some of his friends think Tomlin and the coaching staff should be fired because they can't get the team back to the superbowl. You can't make this stuff up.

It isn't as tricky as it might seem. Coaches do get contracts, so it isn't like it is for most of you where you hire on to a job, the business closes 6 months later and you are out of luck.

We have seen it go on and on over the past almost 2 decades. Funny how that works, isn't it. I STILL say that if we sprinkle in some key Veteran FAs in key spots, attack the Secondary in FA and Draft and GET a QB that can hit the Broad Side of a Barn, we will be a BETTER than 500 team THIS year. Hell, we could easily have been 8-8 THIS year if we had a Damn QB. It's exactly why we see guys saying that WE'RE CLOSE. I'll even give you a team that would be the FAVORITE to win the Superbowl with the Defense that they've BOUGHT in FA if they had a REAL QB. Jacksonville. It's amazing to me how so many people continue to say we don't need a High Pick QB just build the team and develop a mid round QB. That's SO DAMN STUPID, it's PATHETIC THINKING and really, really, REALLY pisses me off every time I see it said.

This is true. These coaches, front office staff, and scouts are still getting paid, even though they are no longer with the team. This is standard for those working in professional football. It's a cushion so they can find another job while being financially secure. Everyone goes through this. When hired, you expect to either have some success to stave of the inevitable, or get fired in 2 or 3 years and have to find another job. That is why relationship is so important in this career, because your next job is based on who you know. My friend/associates who worked as NFL scouts, FA, coaches, and players live with this reality. A lot of them love it, as they do not want to work a normal 9/5 job. The NFL is not built around stability. If you are at a place longer than 3 years, it is a miracle.

I agree. We didn't win any games this year. I don't think it was because we didn't have enough player talent.

I don't want to get too far off topic, but this Secondary and QB thing is exactly why I want Jackson here this year. FIX those 2 areas and I want to see how we look going forward. By mid season I will have made up my mind on whether or not Jackson has what it takes. I think Dorsey and Haslam will also know by then. Do this right and there are NO EXCUSES. I have ERASED these last 2 years. The clock STARTS NOW on Jackson.

We have talent. It is underdeveloped and not used to its fullest potential. We were in a few close games this year where decisions affected the outcome. We have multiple issues causing us to go 0-16.

Whip,
I agree. It would be a mistake to completely dismiss Jackson over this team and season, however, Hue needs to make some wholesale changes to be successful next season. He needs an OC badly, if not to just have another voice in the room to better the offensive decisions and strategy.

He needs an OC badly, if not to just have another voice in the room to better the offensive decisions and strategy. Already underway. From the coaches let go and from those retained, it is apparent that Hue was not satisfied with neither the run nor passing game in part. Wylie was kept so it seems he was OK with the blocking aspect but not the run as a whole. Thus the exit of Kirby Wilson. WR development showed less than expected progress, thus Saunders was 'reassigned'. Our coaching as a whole, did not produce development of talent. The hiring of new coaches and the hoped-for hiring of an OC will expedite and tie together these elements of our offensive system...

I wasn't trying to steer off topic. I agree with you that we aren't all the far away from having the players.
I didn't get in to why we didn't win...there are lots of reasons for that. I just agree that we can fix this as soon as next season from a player standpoint.
As you said, some good drafted players and mix in some vets to fill various positions of need and we should be ready to compete week in and week out.
On O we need a QB, a back if Crow leaves, and a receiver. We can address that is off season
On D we need a FS and a corner. We can address that.
Those are just the minimums, or biggest needs. On O it would be nice to get a big tackle. On D we could use more depth at backs. and even another backfield player would be nice.
Unlike previous years, I think we will be active players in FA. We could target any of the mentioned positions. Mostly I'd like a vet QB and a vet receiver. Maybe a vet corner as well.

What about those coaches and their families when those guys have to go home and tell the wife they didn't measure up to Hue's standards? Since this is a roster upgrade, he should have no problem looking them in the eye. Just like Dorsey shouldn't have a problem looking players in the eye if they're jobs are taken by better players. This doesn't have to be a negative reflection on Hue or the outgoing coaches. It's just another opportunity to get better as a whole, especially when he can upgrade to guys he's worked with. If Hue was scapegoating, that would be one thing, but I don't see these moves as being that, do you?

I agree. We didn't win any games this year. I don't think it was because we didn't have enough player talent. How many times did Kizer turn the ball over in the red zone? 6? 7? More? How many turnovers, overall, was he responsible for? How many TDs was he responsible for, either passing or running? The numbers are all unacceptable. Just cut the red zone turnovers down to only 1 or 2, and we probably win 4 or 5 games.

It still doesn't seem like a great plan walking into a situation where, if you have a family, you are moving across the country and then moving again the next year.

I’m fine with him being our coach ... i get it ... but i now have and never will have ANY RESPECT AT ALL FOR THAT MAN .... he is so full of BS it amazes me ....

Before he got hired I posted on here about how when he was at USC as the offensive coordinator he would have the players huddle around him and chant "Hue. Jack. Hue. Jack." over and over. He's turned over his entire staff in two years. That it clearly him pointing all the fingers away from himself.

You guys tell me isn't she wrong a lot for someone who is as plugged in to Berea/Hue as some are saying?
Isn't it possible she's wrong? Her head is getting big as all the national news feeds are using her as the Browns Bible.
I don't understand this assertion that we need an OC. What we need is somebody to take over a lot of the day to day duties so that we can execute the Offense better. Play calling has never been a problem. Zampese is a very good addition for Hue to get more execution. Whether he adds more I don't know. I'm more curious on who is going to be our Special Teams coach? Unless I missed something???
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

Getting back to the Offensive Coordinator intent of the thread, I really hope that we don't hire a guy to call plays. I think Hue is a good play caller and has proven it in the past. I think the execution of the plays go much, much further than some people realize.
Last year, I think Hue turned over the defensive side of ball to Williams because he trusted him. I think that hiring a OC that he trusts will go a long way to making things go smoothly and maybe even more importantly, quiet some of the outside noise that is sure to be a distraction for the team.
I want an OC who will continue to run Hue's offense. I do not want him calling plays. However, I want him in the box and suggesting plays because he'll have a lot better view than Hue does on the field. Not sure how many of you have been in both a box and on the field, but it is really hard to see on the sidelines. I also want an OC to help design the weekly game plans and attend to the daily grind of dealing w/the offense.
I don't know who we should hire or who would accept such conditions. I was hoping for Saunders, but perhaps he wants to scale back. I think he is 70 yrs old. Not sure about that. Perhaps a younger guy who has been a position coach? I'm not sure of who, but I don't want some high-profile guy who would come in here and change the route trees, language, scheme, etc.

I like the OC up top as well.
To me it's hard to discuss a OC when it seems that whoever we hire is going to be some unproven guy who isn't going to bring in a system or call plays. To me it's hard to even call that guy a OC. Just call him Hue's assistant.
If it works, good deal. That is all I want.

I thought this was an Offensive Coordinator thread? Every thread devolves into the same tone of discussion that permeates the Political thread. I don't go in there. If you would go in there and mention how uncivil it gets your told, "Well, stay out". Again, I did make that choice to stay out only to have it spill over to nearly every other thread. It's killing the fun of Dawg Talkers.

Hiring an offensive coordinator and letting him call the plays is not something Hue wants to do or will do unless forced to. Hue may hire a young coach that is willing to help with the offense as far as game planning and maybe offer suggestions during games but make no mistake Hue will be in charge of the offense.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Really agree with most of that. But Hue needs to let this individual call from script in red zone or inside two minutes. His play calling got bizarre at times the closer we got to the end zone. Can he do it? Sure Hue can. Did he manage to do it? No, seldom and much too rarely. Some of that was Kizer sabotage, some stupid penalties, but some just pointless judgment fails on his part. If the game planning is sold, it doesn't matter who calls it. But Hue has made some errors, week in and week out repeatedly, where certain areas of the field are ignored, certain plays are snubbed, and some lousy calls get repeated as we again abandon the run.
Correct some of this in hindsight this off-season, and it won't cost a game. Decide what cost you game after game so you can eliminate it. Or some of it.
Hue is a good play caller who is not up to snuff, and shows little attempt to right this week to week. Start there now. That will take some honesty and some trust. You cannot build this on Kizer at this time.

I just hate when the HC sabotages the QB and makes him throw interceptions.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
