j/c:

Good discussion by several of you since I last read this thread.

I see both points in regards to going after Cousins or passing on him and going w/the rook.

I'm kinda torn on this, but I am leaning towards not going after Cousins. I think that way because I truly think Rosen is going to be special. Just an opinion and not trying to force my views on anyone.

As far as what they Browns will do? I don't know but I have a feeling that we don't go after Cousins and will draft one of the big 2 at number 1. I have no evidence to support that. It's just a feeling mostly due to you don't get too many shots at having the first pick in the draft and having an excellent qb available.

I'm happy if we sign cousins and then pass on drafting a QB.

I'm happy if we sign darnold, rosen, or mason.

We are just in a great situation for once.

To me ... I prefer to sign cousins and save our HC. I don't think we have time to wait a few years for a QB to blossom and save everything from blowing up. Once we sign cousins we trade down from #1 for a ransom. We take BPA at #4 but hopefully it's for our offense. Then I move back up into the first and take Mason right before the Steelers and steal away Big Ben's replacement. I move up to the first to make sure we get him and to have that 5th year option on his contract.

That is my dream scenario but I certainly won't be upset if we take Darnold or Rosen. This is going to end up one of the very best QB classes for probably the next decade. You could end up having 5 bonafide starting qbs from this draft. Mason is my favorite atm because I think he his skill set will translate great to the AFC North. I'd love him to sit and learn behind Cousins and have Hue mold him into that big arm QB that he loves to have.

There is something a lot of you are overlooking, Hue needs to start winning now. Dorsey has high expectations for next year.

Doesn't it make sense that Hue would want Cousins or Smith as his QB over an unproven rookie draft pick. I think Hue would rather spend those picks on playmakers. I doubt coming off 1-31 Hue wants to be saddled with playing another rookie.

I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

I think there is pressure on all of the major parties to win next year. I'm not saying playoffs, but they need to win some games.

I don't think getting Cousins is the right long-term move, but for the reasons we have just discussed, I can see why the Browns might go after him.

I agree on the immediacy of winning. I think at the least .500, but preferably above, is an essential target to hit. I think this target can be hit with the right pieces...on paper we really are not that far away. A QB is the main missing piece. Bring in Alex Smith and you can also draft Rosen or Darnold. He proved he was able to stabilize KC and win immediately. In Cleveland he can also work with the rookie.

Cousins, however, would be a larger commitment in terms of money and contract. So, my guess is if they go down this route they take a tier-2 QB later. Maybe trade back up and get Allen to groom him with Cousins. Or, go Mayfield, Jackson, Rudolph and again let them learn. Cousins buys you 4 or so years and allows the more raw talent to learn from him.

How much we have to pay to get a QB that can help us win should not be important. That thinking has got us nothing but losing and more losing. Besides with the way QB salaries are going up, in 3 years he would probably be a bargain. If we find a QB who can make us winners, what price is too high?

I think the Steelers will definitely franchise him again (despite his threats). If he became available I don't think I would sign him. Not because I don't think he is a good player, but because he's going to want a ton of money and is a running back with a ton of miles.

Yep, and that's somewhere around $14 million. With a draft that is deep at the RB position, it makes more sense to grab a RB in the 2nd-3rd round.

If we pick a running back in the top 2 rounds then I would agree, but I doubt that will happen. Give me Bell at 16 mil.

Is that supposed to be comical? Maybe in purple?

Cause if not, you're INSANE.

There's NO RB in this league, Today or Yesterday that I'm paying 16m to.

You have a Fantasy Team, don't you?

I take Barkley LONG before I give Bell 16m.

Where's he right now? Yeah. Guess he won't be playing New England TWICE this year. Lmao.

Are you talking about the QB who went 7-9 and missed the playoffs? Is that the QB you're willing to pay top dollar for?

One of these days we're going to have to start paying big contracts. I don't know that we need to start now with Bell. I think we can get our bell cow in the draft this year, and not pay that big contract for a RB until 2022.

The QB who threw 27 TDs? Whose run game was anemic? Whose defense gave up only 22 fewer points than we did, and allowed the same points as the Giants?

He is a very good QB. We have none of those as of right now. We can draft a kid, and hopefully not wind up with Tim Couch II.

High quality QBs don't often become available as free agents. We have a chance to solidify the QB spot at 3 levels. Man, if we don't, and the QB spot fails next year, then the team has no one to blame but themselves.
