Just saying....lots of temp jobs open up in Oct/Nov to gear up for Christmas sales. It works that way every year, so I am not sure I get your point.

Ok....I get your point. I am saying you point doesn't paint the picture you want.

Actually it does. Holiday hires last through December. Had I of used November numbers people would have claimed that it was after the election and those numbers belonged to Trump. So no matter what month I used there would be excuses why it shouldn't count.

But just to make you happy. Job growth in September of 2016 was 156,000 jobs. Still over 18,000 more jobs than December of 2017.

My guess is the Walmart employees will use it to buy food since their pay is so low many require food stamps. Or maybe some will pay some of their medical bills because many are kept below full time hours so that the Walton’s don’t have to pay for their medical insurance.
How could they have possible afforded to as a company before these tax cuts? I mean the Walton family fortune only totals $145.3 billion according to Forbes magazine. Jim Walton alone is worth $45.2 billion. They were barely getting by before the tax cuts. Certainly glad they can now afford to trickle down those $1000 bonuses.

Well, hes in year 1 of 8. so we have plenty of time.

however it seems with all the business and investing happening - and the tax cuts putting money in people pocket, seems like more has been done in that 1 year than the last 8 in respects to it.

I don't have anyone running against him. But all the Dems really have to do is find someone the American people don't despise like Hillary and it shouldn't be that hard.

Let's face it, Hillary sucked for a candidate. That doesn't set the bar that high. And the election was pretty much decided by 77,000 votes in three states.

I wouldn't be being quite so cocky if I were you.

Because happiness should follow if you follow the rest of the things in the list. Happiness is the result of treating others with kindness, being curious and seeking knowledge. It’s a result of accomplishment.

Apple announces plans to repatriate billions in overseas cash, says it will contribute $350 billion to the US economy over the next 5 years

Apple will invest $350 billion in the US economy over the next 5 years Apple will invest $350 billion in the US economy over the next 5 years
16 Hours Ago | 00:46
Apple on Wednesday made a slew of announcements about its investment in and contribution to the U.S. economy in part because of the new tax law.

The headline from Apple is that it will make a $350 billion "contribution" to the U.S. economy over the next five years, although it's unclear exactly how the company came to that number.

The company also promised to create 20,000 new jobs and open a new campus.

It said it expects to pay about $38 billion in taxes for the horde of cash it plans to bring back to the United States. This implies it will repatriate virtually all of its $250 billion in overseas cash.

Apple also said it will spend over $30 billion in capital expenditures over the next five years. About $10 billion in capital expenditures will be investments in U.S. data centers, the company said.

Apple added that it will spend $5 billion as part of an innovation fund, up from the $1 billion CEO Tim Cook announced last year on CNBC's "Mad Money."

The job creation will include direct employment and also suppliers and its app business, which it had already planned to grow substantially (app developers earned $26.5 billion in 2017.) The new campus will focus on customer support.

Wednesday's announcement indicates that Apple will still have hundreds of billions of dollars in cash. It could spend that money on buybacks, dividends or acquisitions or moonshot projects.

The announcement raises the bar for the world's most valuable company — now a huge driver of the economy — to continue its dominance and growth in the wake of political pressure on big tech companies. The plan calls for Apple to keep up 2018's $55 billion "supercycle" spending rate with domestic suppliers and manufacturers.

"We have a deep sense of responsibility to give back to our country and the people who help make our success possible," Cook said in a statement.

In 2016, then president-elect Donald Trump publicly called out Apple's reliance on its Chinese supply chain, telling The New York Times that he would "get Apple to build a big plant in the United States, or many big plants in the United States."

Apple shares were up about half a percent after the announcement, adding about $5.6 billion to the company's market capitalization after the stock opened Wednesday's trading session down 0.3 percent.

Here's the full release:

Apple today announced a new set of investments to build on its commitment to support the American economy and its workforce, concentrated in three areas where Apple has had the greatest impact on job creation: direct employment by Apple, spending and investment with Apple's domestic suppliers and manufacturers, and fueling the fast-growing app economy which Apple created with iPhone(R) and the App Store(R). Apple is already responsible for creating and supporting over 2 million jobs across the United States and expects to generate even more jobs as a result of the initiatives being announced today.

Combining new investments and Apple's current pace of spending with domestic suppliers and manufacturers -- an estimated $55 billion for 2018 -- Apple's direct contribution to the US economy will be more than $350 billion over the next five years, not including Apple's ongoing tax payments, the tax revenues generated from employees' wages and the sale of Apple products.

Planned capital expenditures in the US, investments in American manufacturing over five years and a record tax payment upon repatriation of overseas profits will account for approximately $75 billion of Apple's direct contribution.

"Apple is a success story that could only have happened in America, and we are proud to build on our long history of support for the US economy, " said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "We believe deeply in the power of American ingenuity, and we are focusing our investments in areas where we can have a direct impact on job creation and job preparedness. We have a deep sense of responsibility to give back to our country and the people who help make our success possible."

Apple, already the largest US taxpayer, anticipates repatriation tax payments of approximately $38 billion as required by recent changes to the tax law. A payment of that size would likely be the largest of its kind ever made.

Growing Apple's US Operations

Apple expects to invest over $30 billion in capital expenditures in the US over the next five years and create over 20,000 new jobs through hiring at existing campuses and opening a new one. Apple already employs 84,000 people in all 50 states.

The company plans to establish an Apple campus in a new location, which will initially house technical support for customers. The location of this new facility will be announced later in the year.

Over $10 billion of Apple's expanded capital expenditures will be investments in data centers across the US. Over the last decade, Apple has invested billions of dollars in data centers and co-located facilities in seven US states, including North Carolina, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and a recently announced project in Iowa.

Today, Apple is breaking ground on a new facility in downtown Reno, which will support its existing Nevada facilities.

All of Apple's US facilities, including offices, retail stores and data centers, are powered by 100 percent renewable energy sources like solar, wind and micro-hydro power, which Apple generates or purchases from local projects. The new campus announced today will also be powered entirely by green energy.

Investing in Apple's Domestic Suppliers and Manufacturing Partners

Building on the initial success of the Advanced Manufacturing Fund announced last spring, Apple is increasing the size of the fund from $1 billion to $5 billion. The fund was established to support innovation among American manufacturers and help others establish a presence in the US. It is already backing projects with leading manufacturers in Kentucky and rural Texas.

Apple works with over 9,000 American suppliers -- large and small businesses in all 50 states -- and each of Apple's core products relies on parts or materials made in the US or provided by US-based suppliers.

Preparing Students for the App Economy

Apple, which has a 40-year history in education, also plans to accelerate its efforts across the US in support of coding education as well as programs focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).

The iOS app economy has created more than 1.6 million jobs in the US and generated $5 billion in revenue for American app developers in 2017. With demand for coding skills stronger than ever, today there are more than 500,000 unfilled programming-related positions across the country, and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that by 2020 there will be 1.4 million more software development jobs than applicants qualified to fill them.(1)

To address the coding skills gap and help prepare more people for jobs in software development, Apple created a powerful yet easy-to-learn coding language called Swift(TM), the free Swift Playgrounds(TM) app and a free curriculum, App Development with Swift, which are available to anyone and are already being used by millions of students at K-12 schools, summer camps and leading community colleges across the country. Over 100,000 students and teachers have also attended coding classes at Apple retail stores.

Apple will expand these initiatives and add new programs to support teachers and teacher training. The company is also increasing funding for its ConnectED program, so students in historically underserved communities have a chance to learn app coding skills and enjoy other benefits of technology in the classroom.

Apple revolutionized personal technology with the introduction of the Macintosh in 1984. Today, Apple leads the world in innovation with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. Apple's four software platforms -- iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS -- provide seamless experiences across all Apple devices and empower people with breakthrough services including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay and iCloud. Apple's more than 100,000 employees are dedicated to making the best products on earth, and to leaving the world better than we found it.

(1)According to code.org, there are currently 503,338 open computing jobs nationwide.
This press release contains forward-looking statements, within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. These forward-looking statements include without limitation those about Apple's plans for future investments and expansion, taxes, Apple's plans for managing its cash balances, and repatriation of overseas cash. If all the information is true, this is a pretty big deal. Plus is seems like their following the Amazon approach of adding another major location.

I’ll agree on some level that happiness is a choice. But if you follow the rules on the other list you should find yourself happier for it, or you’re clinically depressed. If you break all those rules and that makes you happy, you’re a sociopath.
Yes I chose to be happy. But I gain that through the way I treat others. Through my interactions with my clients, my coworkers, those I cross paths with daily. Could I chose to be sour and put on the err of happiness, sure I guess. But that’d quickly be seen through as faking it by anyone with insight.

I see people still haven’t learned their lesson of taking corporations for their word seriously.

I’ll praise apple once they actually do it.

People on this board were cheering Ford and GE for pledging not send any more jobs to Mexico.

And then they went “lol sike!!”

I feel ya bro. But I have to admit that if Apple repatriates 350 BILLION for whatever maniacal reason they might have, Trump did that.

So even though I can't stand Trump (not sure you noticed), I'm going to be a man about it and give him credit when it's due.

Now on your point about saying is one thing doing is another; time will tell and if they renege and we'll throw that in the Trumpian faces when it happens.

It's very easy to prove that isn't true. This idea that you should sacrifice yourself to make others happy is a harmful and evil way of thinking. Don't think so?

Ask a wife who lives for her husband's happiness but is never appreciated for it and never has the same care returned. Give your all for a best friend all the time while they accept it and don't give back. Repressing the anger it makes you feel and bottling up the emotions from it leads to mass murderers when the so called nice person eventually explodes because they are miserable living for others and not having it returned.

Overdoing acts of kindness is not actual kindness but a form of aggression with the intent to control others by forcing a sense of obligation towards you. "I'm always doing things for you so now you need to do this for me." Except you never ask for anything. You let that debt of obligation build up and up until the person receiving it begins to feels resentment for having such a large unspoken debt of obligation. It has destroyed a lot of marriages and friendships to be sure.

It's not that it is bad to do nice things towards others but even God doesn't want your niceness if its too much for you to give.

"Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not out of regret or compulsion. For God loves a cheerful giver."

Telling someone they have to smile when they don't feel like it. Including others when you need solitude or special time with close friends because it might hurt someone else's feelings is being fake. Being fake is living a lie and always lead's to disaster.

Instead do things that make YOU happy. Be true to your self. If your sad then cry. If your happy share your joy. If your angry then tell them why even if it hurts their feelings. If your honest with yourself and others then the people who matter will accept you as you are instead of trying to force you to be someone your not.

Then because your happy naturally your joy will be contagious to the people who care about you and they will feel joy as you share your joy. People who can't be happy that you have joy should be cut out from your life and discarded because they are a poison you can do with out.

Proverbs 27:5-6
Better is open rebuke Than love that is concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.

Please just enjoy your life and do that which makes you happy and doesn't harm others. If you are happy then the people who care about you will be glad indeed. Hiding your feelings and living for others alone just makes everyone miserable in the end.

You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

Definitely. The problem they are creating tax laws HOPING companies will do the right thing.

The fact that we have to essentially bribe American companies to help Americans is pathetic all on its own, and has been decades in the making.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

That’s a pessimistic way of thinking about what I was trying to say. If being kind is ‘fake’ to someone, then they have bigger issues. If one is being kind with the only intent of receiving kindness back, then one isn’t doing it for the right reason. If one is using their kindness as a way of keeping score, then they have a bigger issue. If one is being kind to their spouse to hold some sort of dominion over them, then that relationship has bigger issues.
I walk through my life and treat people with kindness. This brings me peace, happiness, knowing I’m putting that out into the world. I don’t expect it in return. Lord knows I would often be greatly disappointed when coming to this board if I did.

Pretty sure the big guy knows we'll get that job done on our own.
