Wasn’t it reported today the team is keeping the trademark rights of the Chief and will continue to sell some chief related items? Sounded like the profiting, even to a small degree would continue. Well, I have two thoughts about this. First, It's still a racist logo and their profiting off of it is disingenuous, but at least I don't have to see it on the field anymore. Rome was not built in a day. Second, it's probably best of them not to release their rights on the logo. I'd hate to see the free market get their hands on that logo.

I thought American would be implied since we're talking about an American University. Sorry for not being specific. But he is an Irish-American Priest. I know some people cringe at hyphens, but it's not a bad thing!

Just curious where you read that? Not trying to call you out, I'm curious. The name Jenkins is English/Welsh and everything I've read about him has called him American.

I’ll admit I’m not up on trademark law but are they required to make a profit to keep the trademark active?

I could be wrong though. But, I wouldn't think too much about last names, they got changed all the time back then. It was an easy way to avoid discrimination. The Trumps were the Drumpfs until WWI and the discrimination that faced Germans made them change their names.

Previous recipients of the AIHS Gold Medal, which recognizes a special or unique contribution to American Irish life, include President Ronald Reagan I don't think you have to be Irish.

That would be weird. But I found confirmation. https://www.irishcentral.com/a-man-in-full-university-of-notre-dame-president-john-jenkins-69361392A man in full: University of Notre Dame president Fr. John Jenkins gets his Irish up He spoke movingly of his own heritage, his family roots on his mother's side, who were Condons from Cork, and the deep resources of faith, family and friendship that his Irish background bequeathed to him.

I see a lot of people are very upset about this and are making dramatic statements.
I do not wish to argue or face their wrath, but I would like to offer my opinion.
I always hated the logo. I always thought it was racist. And this was before people even talked about such things. I always hoped they would find or create a logo that honored Native Americans and kept the name. I like the headdresses and chiseled faces, the horses, the spears, bows, etc.
Just my personal opinion. I'm glad the racist logo is gone.

I'm glad it will be gone. Not only was it long past due, we no longer have to debate it (well, it'll be a hot topic for a few days).
Good riddance. When are you getting rid of your avatar? Touche. There is almost no noise around the Blackhawks logo. It's not a caricature. That being said, I will follow your suggestion.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”

I love the Blackhawks logo. I think it is how you honor Native Americans rather than creating a false stereotype. I think you should bring it back.

I think it needed to go. Hell, we're really only talking about it being gone from the stadium and the players's uniforms. That's it.
I wish people weren't battling the outrage with outrage. But I understand. The logo has been around forever.
I honestly wish they'd change the name. Either the Walleyes or the Hounds (more dog theme in town!). And I'd want a cartoony logo with the same exact mouth/teeth and triangular eyes.

So you're saying it's not a racist caricature? I don't think that argument can be made. It's literally a red man with a giant nose and a feather. The only arguments that can me made are "tradition" and "PC Police" and neither of those are valid. I think your protesting it just shows how much you like wearing skirts, and using pads once a month. I've been a long time reader of the board but just recently signed up to comment. I've been around the board for a long time and I know GM is held in high regards around here, but I lost a little respect for you with this type of comment. The respect of peers should be more important than this.

Yeah, it's almost like you can use a tribe or race as a name while also respecting their culture. It's an easy solution that many institutions have fixed it over the last two decades. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has both Miami Redskins and Miami Redhawk apparel lying around their house. I'm not attacking you btw, just agreeing with you. If my tone sounds harsh, it's just because I'm disappointed that it will take till 2019 for a decision that should've happened a decade ago.

I agree w/you. I don't think there is anything wrong w/a team taking on an Native American name. I love when it is done respectfully.
I love the that Blackhawks logo and the name honors a specific tribe. I think the Florida State Seminoles is cool because it honors a regional tribe and their freaking mascot is awesome!
Chief Wahoo looks too much like the black Sambo for my tastes and I think it disrespectful and not an accurate representation of a group of people.
I will say that I do not like the name "Redskins" for many of the same reasons that I laid out in the previous paragraph.
Blackhawks = cool Braves = cool Seminoles = cool Redskins = uncool.

I wonder how long it will be until the league forces them to change their name to The Cleveland Native Americans?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

It will never happen, Pit. While the name "Indians" might be incorrect, it isn't offensive. Hey, I just had a thought for the new logo for the "Indians:" Whaddya think? Good idea?

My hat is off to the ladies that have to. I also don't believe I could handle childbirth YIKES BTW I don't deserve anymore respect around here than anybody else, as There is not one single board member around here that I am better than.

I'd then use the money saved by trading Encarnacion to sign JD Martinez.
