So you don't believe Hue Jackson when he stated...“I never wanted to see Joe go but, at the same time, we made the decision as an organization. I totally stand behind it,” he said."
But Hue did throw Sashi under the bus along with players.
Only when it became clear he was inept at his job. One thing about Joe Thomas ... if he says it then he means it. Especially when he is being blunt about something. I think he is trying to send a clear message to the organization that if they want Joe to stay they had better start showing some respect towards whatever few vets they have left.
Everyone with a bit of common sense understands Hue hated losing Joe but was just trying to say the right things to keep the team from falling apart.
Sashi got the AX because he could get any of the QBs hue asked for except a low risk flyer on RG3 that everyone knew would be a crap shoot.
With this new regime I worry most about losing Bitonio because they have a track record/reputation of not putting much value in guards and we just signed him to a nice new contract.

In the end I bet he comes back. There is no other place he is going to make the money he will make playing in the NFL.
You're talking about a well grounded, multi millionaire who is probably perfectly content with who he is, what he's accomplished and what he has. He can be in the HOF by 38 and really enjoy the heck out of his life with an intact body and mind.
It can't to push that back a year and back another boatload of money. AS people without the kind of money we are talking about we don't understand. We think about having $10 million and say, "I'd be set forever." But when you make that money every year, you want to make it again. It is part of what motivates these guys to their core.
Honestly, I don't think JT is the type of guy that that motivates him. Dude skipped the draft to go fishing with his dad. I think hes content living in the woods, quietly with this family.
Drango was given a lot of help blocking. JT plays on an island. I suggest if you get the opportunity you look at some film of both playing the position to see that. There's zero comparison there.
Yes, he was given help.. For sure, but he wasn't the weak link either. He wasn't horrible.
Again, let me be clear, I hope that JT returns..

I believe Thomas mentioned yesterday evening at the CLE Sports Award that he was soon heading to Bristol to do some work at ESPN.
He's certainly taking the steps to set himself for a career in the media after/when he retires.
I'm pretty sure The Undefeated, the network that hosts him and Hawk's podcast, is owned by ESPN in some manner. I know Hawk works for ESPN, mainly on their Sportscenter for Snapchat program, which is apparently doing pretty well. Honestly, if I'm an ESPN executive, I see Hawk and Joe Thomas as the next Greeny and Golic, except better in every freaking way.
Durango played better than most of us expected .. But the claim that he had a LOT of TE help is PURE UNADULTERATED hog wash ... All you have to do is watch the film .. Time and time again Hue would leave him on an Island in critical passing downs ! ! How do I remember this --- I found myself Screaming at my TV ...LOL
He sure did. I expected a total/close to total whiff when he was plugged in a LT, I was wrong...
Truth is, all I bet of hte major sports networks with football want and have already contacted Joe about employment in the media industry. I think Joe loves being in front of the camera when it's off the field. To me, it would take a lot of sweet talks, a direct conversation(s) about direction and etc to make Joe think about suiting up again.
I'm not sure we have what it takes to convince the man, honestly. To him, it's probably "just another group of guys coming in, likely same result as it's been" ordeal.

I agree that he did better than most expected, but he got blown up on more than a few occasions. That almost never happened with Joe.

I am reading between the lines here, so take it for what it's worth.
Hue made the "good soldier" comments at the beginning of the year, when things were actually looking up, relatively speaking.
Throughout the season, with the losses piling up, the media getting more bloodthirsty, the mistakes on the field held under a microscope, the relationship soured. Hue flipped a switch and started throwing everyone he could find under the bus. If memory serves me right, his most egregious comments about the players and overall talent management didn't really start until later in the year. It's even possible that the Garrapolo trade and the McCarron debacle was the tipping point. There was a ton of behind the scenes talking going on at that point (Hue's daughter being the most ridiculous, imo).
Yes, Hue was stabbing people in the back and throwing people under the bus... but my recollection iss that this didn't start until the season was already a full-blown disaster. Before that, he was putting up a wall of solidarity.
I'll reiterate. This post is completely comprised of my reading between the lines and my gut feeling. Please take it as such.

JMO of course.
You can't give him help on obvious passing plays because we need the extra receiving option. But pretty much every other 1st and 2nd down here would have at least 1 TE on his side.
I'm not sure why people have such a hard time understanding that. Just like Shon Coleman getting 14 penalties during the season but he's doing a great job?
Yeah, those things are very confusing.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
I am actually really excited about both players tyvm! Coleman had his Mitchell year! Unfortunately he can get a lot better, but that really depends on what he can learn from, hopefully, Joe and Zeitler and how much he applies it. I think Joe is the reason why everyone on the line have always been good. I have no proof except his presence and that's proof enough imo. Fraley - career years! Mack - All-pro! Lauvo - still starting in the NFL! I could name them all, but I think he taught and brought a lot to our line group. I hope he stays. It sounds like he doesn't really think about the arm too much about his tricep rehab, but mainly his back pain. So, who knows?
Forgot: If Joe does retire and is no longer a coach here, then I think Coleman will do a good job at filling in for him. That's what he was drafted to do imo. Same with Roderick Johnson, but he's trash, but also a 5th rounder, so I get the boom or bust pick on the OT. My preferable one was Julian Davenport who was taken in the 4th. The only other OT left who could possibly fill the roles of a good LT was Conor McDermott. But yeah, I'm all aboard the Coleman train! Choo choo!
Actually penalties are a gauge of a players abilities or lack there of. You see, QB stats take into consideration those around him. The blocking, the routes the WR's run and whether the WR drops the ball. Too many variables to use their stat sheet as something that tells the entire story.
Penalties by an Ol player are simply his single actions against another player. Much more telling.
But thanks for playing.

I hope you're right for the sake of our Browns. But just as some players develop into good players, many do not. And 14 penalties are a LOT of penalties. So the odds don't really look that good.

Coleman has trouble playing RT. It takes much more athleticism to play the LT position. I simply don't see Coleman filling that role.
Hey, you said something right for once!
No, I don't think Coleman or Drango have the athleticism to play LT. Quite frankly, Drango shocked the heck out of me, because prior to this year, I didn't think he had enough scoots to play RT. If I were hard pressed to replace JT with somebody already on the roster it would be tough. I didn't see enough of Roderick Johnson to know if he is the answer, but Bitonio would probably be the next one in line for me.
Patience with Coleman will be rewarded. Hopefully there are no rocket surgeons on the coaching staff.

You don't need to clarify....who doesn't want JT to return other than maybe his wife and fans of other divisional teams?.
It was a smart move by Sashi to give him a 3 mil upgrade in pay when we did. I think he knew Joe might retire after the injury.
If Joe plays next year, I'd be surprised if he plays beyond.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
If anyone saw photos of JT at the Cleveland Sports Awards Wednesday night, he looks like he could be a WR, not a LT. I understand that an injury will have a ripple effect on workout capability, but I was slightly alarmed by a picture taken just a couple of days ago. Maybe it was a poor angle.
Side note: I heard Tom Rinaldi knocked it out of the park as the MC.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Joe has always been pretty lean. He might be leaning up for life after football.
With his podcasts and such, I think he aims for a broadcast career after football.
My hope is he steps in for Dieken on the radio broadcasts.
Deke has been doing it for a good while. Might be time to pass the torch. I was hoping it wouldn't be for another 2-3 years.

Joe has always been between 290 and 310 plds. The thing is the man is all muscle. Dude is way stronger than he looks because he just holds his weight so well.

Joe has really seemed to be pushing for Brees on his Twitter account recently. I'm wondering if he is sending signals to the team on what it would take for him to come back.

He was on Dan Patrick and said he was more trying to make a point about how far along the Browns actually are and how players leverage teams to give them the most money.
Holy chit when did Joe get to meet Gimli?!! Awesome pic and I am jealous!

Joe Thomas on the Dan Patrick Show: Browns’ QB situation, and what if the team drafts a left tackle
Thomas continues his media tour.
By Chris Pokorny@DawgsByNature Jan 20, 2018, 4:52pm EST
On Friday, Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas was a guest on The Dan Patrick Show (available on AT&T AUDIENCE Network) for a 13-minute interview. You can watch the segment below, and then I’ve also included a bullet point summary of what Thomas had to say:
He’s not actively recruiting Drew Brees for the Browns; he was just saying that [previously] to make a point that Cleveland isn’t too far off. Patrick playfully asked, ‘what if Drew said I’ll come to Cleveland, but I need to make sure [Thomas] will be there for three more years.’ Thomas’ response to Patrick was, ‘can we give him my number?’
Thomas acknowledged the speculation that they’ll go after Alex Smith in free agency, and he said if that happens, the Browns should take a quarterback at No. 1 or No. 4 overall. But, if the team signs a younger quarterback like Kirk Cousins, then Cleveland doesn’t need to take a quarterback that high. At that point, you can just take the best players available, or trade back a couple of spots to a team that wants one of those quarterbacks.
“What if the Browns decide to take an [offensive] tackle at No. 4 overall?” asked Patrick. Thomas said he thinks it would be smart. He’s 33 years old, and no matter what he decides to do in 2018, he wouldn’t have many seasons left under his belt.
He has not made a decision yet for 2018. The decision will just come down to his overall health. “Am I healthy enough to play another season?”
Humor is the best way to deal with difficult situations, and that’s been his coping mechanism the past few years with the Browns.
2015 was the last time Thomas got in a good training camp fight.
