I think Barkley and Zeke are very comparable talent wise. My opinion is that Barkley is faster and Zeke is more powerful So I can definitely justify taking Barkley at #4
Should we decide to go a different route at #4 then I would hope for either:
Sony Michel - I only saw the 2 Georgia playoff games to evaluate him but he runs with burst, has good speed and I was surprised by the power he ran with. He is my #2 Rb at the moment.
The Rb that I think is getting underrated is Kerryon Johnson Auburn He is good in the passing game (receiving, I haven't evaluated his blocking) He is a touchdown machine He runs with good power He is a great 1-cut runner. If he ends up in that kind of offensive system look out
My concerns: He had the shoulder injury, I don't know how bad is is but he did come back to have 22 carries in the Peach Bowl Speed. I have seen him break long TD runs and not get caught from behind. But he just doesn't look fast I am interested in seeing what his 40 time turns out to be
The guy I am intrigued by is Josh Adams ND Big Kid. I've seen him listed at 6'2 and 225# Runs with power, a lot of power. Seems to get banged up a lot - is that from his running style? will it get worse in the NFL? How seems to hit the hole quickly but doesn't appear to have good long speed Though speed can be deceptive (both directions) on TV
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no
I like all the guys you mentioned. I have to watch more. And again, I encourage people to educate us. I don't know a ton about some of these guys and want to learn more.
There are so many good prospects that it would be helpful if several people contribute to educating others. I feel kinda overwhelmed studying these guys because there are so many.
Here is a video of Penny vs Stanford. I chose this one because it is against good competition. Some of my observations are:
--Good pad level --Good vision --Follows blockers well --Stays low and hidden --Runs square most of the time --Decent hands --Willing, but inadequate blocker --Nice forward lean --Dishes out some punishment, but also takes a lot.
Interesting back and certainly one we should keep an eye on.
For most my college evaluation to be successful in the NFL is EXPLOSIVE as a key variable. You can see it in vertical leap and 10 yard time in the 40 but you can see it on the film...Michel gets a high grade form me cause I see that explosion translated to his football play! Good hands also.
Apologies vers I was reacting to what I thought was a biased statement. As I watched many games from the kid and was very impressed with him picking up the blitz.
Very NFL ready.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
tab, I don't know if you read my first post, but I have Barkley as the best back in the class. I'm not dogging him at all. I think he is a great back.
I was just hoping this could be an educational thread where I could educate some people and others could educate me. That is why I posted the video of Penny. I read about him and stuff, but never really saw him play. The video is against Stanford.
I haven't received any feedback on that video. I wonder if anyone even watched it?
I don't know..........this board has gotten so bad. The PFF has become like the Political forum. Every stinking thread gets hijacked and certain posters are permitted to get away w/all kinds of crap.
I was just hoping for a real football thread w/out all of the arguing. I'm about done. It's not even fun anymore.
If you have time, check out the Penny video and let me know what you think. I see some good things and have some questions about him. I would like some feedback from football guys like you, bonefish, tru, etc
I'll post more videos on other guys if you guys wanna discuss them.
We are definitely in need of a starting runningback this offseason, with the unquestionable exit of Crowell (and I can't blame him). To be honest, I think there is about a 50% chance that we pick up Bell in the offseason, and all of this runningback talk will be for nothing. I then think if we don't get Bell, there is a 75% chance we take Barkley.
So, if that 12.5% chance occurs where the second round comes and we have neither Bell or Barkley, we definitely have plenty of options.
Being from Louisiana, and hearing all the SEC, and more specifically LSU vomit, I feel like I have a little insight. Derrius Guice is being touted as probably the second best back after Barkley. He may be, but it is so hard to tell. Last year, when he would spell Fournette he was seen as amazing. Now was that because the defense devoted less to stopping Guice, and more to Fournette? Maybe. But even when Fournette was injured, Guice filled in well.
But overall, I am not that impressed with him. He runs hard and hits the hole fast, but his vision is often in question. When near the goaline, they tended to go to the other backs. Guice to me is more of a between the 20s back. He has the ability to catch the ball, but isn't great at it. He runs with power, but still is often brought down by the first defender. And he has some shiftiness, but not that of an elite back. Personally... I am hoping we steer clear of him. I think he will be drafted higher than he should be because of how well Fournette has done.
A runningback that is not being talked about nearly as much is Josh Adams out of Notre dame. The quarterback play for Notre Dame was absolutely putrid this year. But that team stayed in the top 10 due to defense and pounding the ball! And Josh Adams was the main focus. He is 6'2" 225, so a little tall for a runnngback, but he can handle the load. And most projections I have seen have shown him falling to the 3rd or 4th, although I think by the end of the evaluations he will likely be a late 2nd rounder. Like I said, I doubt we are looking at runningbacks past Barkley when it comes down to it, but if we do, I think he could be a value and a guy that can carry the ball 20 times a game for us.

Watched the video, just didn’t reply. From what I’ve read most have him as a 4.6 guy, but watching him he looks a touch faster then that. Good quickness. Catches the ball ok but would like to have seen more. I like him as a prospect. His best attribute is he seems like he’s hard to tackle. That’s all I really have so far, I’ll be able to tell more leading up to the draft. Haven’t got to watch much on many prospects yet.
I agree w/you guys about Barkley, but I thought it would be good to evaluate the other guys because I don't think we'll draft him at 1 or 4 and he'll be a first round pick.
I'll post some videos of the other guys so we can discuss them.
Yeah, that is why I chose that one. I didn't even look at other ones against weaker teams. I didn't even know how he did that game. I just picked the video that contained his toughest match-up.
Frankly, I was surprised by how well he did against them.
Have you seen anything on Jaylen Samuels? From NC state? They’ve got him listed as a TE.but at 5-11 235-240 he’s not gonna play there full time. Maybe spot duty at times. I like this kid. I know he’s not gonna be anything special but I think he can do some things. He’s not overly fast or quick but catches everything. Can block some, run some(goal line back possibly), but he hangs his hat on helping in the passing game. I’ve compared him to Larry Centers, I know you must remember him. He was a big help for the cardinals on third downs for a long while, could see this kid carving out that type of roll in the NFL. Kinda like a bigger albeit less athletic, Duke Johnson. Don’t know if there’s a roll on this team for him but somewhere.
There’s not a ton out there on him, he’s not expected to go very early, probably day three. He did break NC states all time receptions record this past season.
Stats....career.... 180 rushes for 1104 yards and 28 TDs 202 receptions for 1855 yards and 19 TDs
He’s being projected as a fullback but I don’t know if he’s big enough for it, he’s listed as 5-11 228 but looks a bit bigger. Plus he’s to good in the pass game to be relegated to being just a fullback.
Here’s a link that breaks down some of his plays....
Thanks. That was a good report. He sounds like an interesting guy. I like what I hear about his athleticism, versatility, and competitiveness. His size, blocking, and route running are concerns.
This guy will probably find a spot w/a team as a pass catching FB. I liked that comparison with Juszczyk.
There are a lot of guys in this draft comparable to Duke Johnson.
Does anyone have anything on Jarvion Franklin, western Michigan or Ryan Nall, Oregon state?Or Kalen Ballage, Arizona state? And is there a Darren Sproles type who could help in the return game, I’m not completely sold on Peppers being that guy yet?
Kerryon Johnson from Auburn is a pretty good back. Daniel Jeremiah compares him to LeVeon Bell. The dude has lit up good teams, such as putting up 233 rushing/receiving yards against Georgia. He injured a shoulder against 'Bama and that might concern some scouts. He should be a day 2 pick. Here is a "highlight" video of him. Check out the spin move right at the beginning and how he trucks the LSU defender.
I like his moves and speed. I think he does a nice job of keeping his feet moving. He does take a lot of hits and that is a concern, but this dude looks pretty dynamic to me.

I agree. We won't draft him at 1 and he probably won't be there at 4.
From a pure value and needs standpoint, Id rather take Fitz at 4, but if we did take Barkley, I won't be moaning the blues.
I will add this edit....if we sign Cousins and decide to not draft a QB high in the draft, Barkley is in play for sure. We might take him at #1.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
To be honest, I think there is about a 50% chance that we pick up Bell in the offseason, and all of this runningback talk will be for nothing.
Hey, Rig. Do you really think the odds are that high? You do not see Pitts using a tag on Bell? Why not? Or them being unable to work out a contract?
Not knocking you, serious questions. Curious as to your take on this.
I would be shocked if the Steelers franchised him again. Bell had already said he would retire or sit out if they franchise him again. The cost would only be $14.5 million, which is probably right around what he would take a year in a longer term contract.
I just don't see the Steelers wrapping up that much money in a runningback. I feel like they drafted the runningback out of Pittsburgh to start replacing Bell. And being the Bell is already disgruntled, and has had a history of injury and off the field problems, I feel like the Steelers will ultimately give in and let him walk... after offering him $10-12 million a year on a 3-4 year deal.
Rooney and the Steelers generally don't let situations get as far as they have with him. Although recently more and more frustration has been coming from the locker room, between Bell, Brown, Bryant, Harrison and others. I think that is an indicator on the coach more than anything.
We will see. I may be dead wrong and Bell goes back to Pittsburgh. But if he gets out, we have the most cap space in the NFL, a new GM looking to make a splash and incentive for Bell to get back at the Steelers 2 times a year at least!
To be honest, people in Louisiana are much more focused on the SEC west. I didn't actually get to watch a Georgia game until they lost to Auburn. So, I haven't gotten to evaluate him much yet. Of course he looked like a monster in the playoffs. The knee surgeries concern me of course. I will definitely be finding more film on him.
Where is Josh Adams shaking out now? Loved him early season but admittedly didn't see him much late fall. Big kid and I think had the best yards per carry at one point this year. I want a bruising AFC North back.

Should be easily drafted rather late.
Josh Adams is my "if we don't take Barkley" pick. He should be available with our 1st pick in the 3rd round. May want to get him with the Eagles 2nd rounder. He was the lead back this year for Notre Dame.
Long strider, great balance, and really good cutting ability. Shows excellent vision and balance.
Knows how and when to apply power.
I am a huge believer in Barkley. I really believe he is difference maker. I want him bad. But if that doesn't happen I like Johnson.
I agree bone, I thought the same thing, and he is not only similar to Kelly they both are 6'0 212 according to their playing reference, the only thing I would like to see is if Johnson can run in the mud like Kelly, there was none better
