This just "foundation".
I've always heard and believe the expression "strength up the middle".
The players typically in the middle of the field.
So I'd parse the team differently than just by groups of positions.
On defense:
Interior lineman (defensive tackles), interior linebackers (middle linebacker), interior defensive backs (free safety).
On Offense:
Center, Quarterback, running back.
But that's different than what I think about the draft.
As far as draft goes, I'm strictly "best available player". Regardless of position or "team need".

I think the most important question was left off of this poll and thus I won't answer any of these questions that are reeking w/a pro-Sashi and anti-Hue agenda.

1. OL/DL 2. Build the rest of the team up first and then draft a quarterback (on this one, I was 50/50) 3. have a mix of both 4. Accumulate as many high draft picks as possible 5. Someone else (not QB or trade down)

I just thought this was a loaded question and neither answer really applies to how I would respond. When building a football team, from scratch, would you prefer to....
Build the rest of the team up first and then draft a quarterback
Draft the quarterback and then build the team around him If you completely build your team void of just the QB, you will most likely be drafting middle of the pack making it much harder to get your QB. If you build your OL first and then address your QB, you can protect him so he doesn't get shell shocked and add talent around him. So I think the trenches come first and then your QB.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

The entire thread was full of loaded questions. It was starte by a guy who trashes Hue on a daily basis and made excuses for Sashi.
Here is a question that should have been posed:
When building a team, is completely blowing up a roster to the point where you know you are going to lose almost every game a smart plan?
Or, how about this one:
When building a team, is it wise to ignore the advice of your coaches?
Or, maybe this one:
When building a team, is it wise to cut and/or not re-sign your better players and send a message to your coaches and players that you don't really care about winning this year and are trying to save money?
I could go on and on and on..........

1. Foundation of the team would be offensive line and defensive line. This composes 9 important starters and maybe 16 players on the roster when factoring depth/rotational players. Quarterback is still (by far) the most important player on the team, and very integral to a team's success.
2. Build a team then draft QB vs draft QB then build a team: depends on the situation. If there's a franchise QB there and you don't have one, take the QB. But don't burn an early pick (and likely multiple seasons) just to overdraft a QB. Lots of gray area here, sometimes whether or not you have your QB (and whether the guy you want to take is a franchise QB or not) is not so clear. It really depends on the specifics.
3. Mix of young and veteran players.
4. Depends on who the player you can draft is, how well he fits, what the trade offer is (if any), etc. Generally speaking, analytics have shown it's better to get more picks. The Browns have largely done this, and also largely failed. But there are other teams (e.g. Patriots) who have often traded down from their first pick and done quite well for themselves. As mentioned earlier: it depends on the specifics.
5. I don't know.
