Kizer will be on our roster. No way we cut a 2nd round 21/22 year old after 1 year of play.
Hogan and Kessler will be gone for sure tho. "You're gonna have to trust me on this one", Kessler will be gone. He’s not gone already?

I'm becoming more under the impression we can snag whatever QB at #1, and snag whatever other skilled position pretty much with our next pick as teams will be dealing up to grab one of the many talented QBs leftover from the one we didn't grab in the draft class.
We could almost deal (I know, more trading instead of taking) but still make it where we grab the skilled guy (corner, RB, whatever) we want while other teams are battling to move up and acquire a QB.

Read an article that Denver is considering making a move to the #1 spot we have. The article said it would take their #1 this year, their #1 next year, a #2 this year and maybe a #3. Would you do the deal? I for one don't even know if I'd want to help them out but we could get a lot.

It depends on how the FO feels about the QBs and whether or not they Broncos want the same QB.
If the Broncos want say Darnold and the Browns want a different QB then I would make the deal

I wouldn't accept anything and take the guy and watch what happens with the other picks leading to our other and, depending on the situation - take calls then. However, I'm more than okay with them taking players at the picks. I agree Ed, Barkley may not drop but who knows what will happen. Us taking a vet QB in FA changes things dramatically.

Well I don't Giant's (Barkley) or Colts (Chub) taking QB's so if we did that there would be at least 3 QB's for us at 4 ...

There's also rumors that Luck might need further surgery; Colts could very well go QB too. If we trade down to Denver's spot we could end up with the guy who's left. My guess is that would be Mayfield. I don't want Mayfield.
As of right now, my choices would be Darnold, Allen, and Rosen - in that order. If you would take them at 4, you should just take them at 1. We have to stop the overthinking that a tradedown involves. It hasn't worked yet.

I agree - this is the year we should be looking to trade UP in every round to add quality, rather than collecting JAG's.

The Browns are taking Mayfield at 1. It's a feeling I have. At #4 I am not sure. I would like to see Cousins or Keenum brought in and go with impact players in the 1st round. Barclay and Fitzpatrict along with trading back into the 1st to get maybe Ridley or Smith, the linebacker from Georgia.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

But seriously, you can buck up the lower roster spots from the waiver wire. In the draft we need impact players, as much quality as we can get with the draft capital we have.

I don't think the Giants are going to draft a QB with pick #2. I think they want to win not rebuild. Using their top resource to replace Eli wouldn't help them win now. The Giants just drafted Davis Webb and I think they are going to groom him and see how he develops before they give up on him. And I think Davis Webb compares well with QBs in this draft class. The reason why I think Saquan makes sense for them is because imo he's the best player in the draft. You plug him into that offense with Beckham returning more sensible playcalling and an upgraded OL the Giants could be a playoff team. Do you think the Steelers and Chargers are going to trade up for QBs? If not then why would the Giants be different?

Unless we are talking about a trade with the Giants.

If the QB that Dorsey rates highest is either Mayfield or Allen - which is not likely but it is possible - then absolutely I'd take that deal with or without Cousins.
Both Mayfield and Allen are extremely likely to be available at #4.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

My thoughts are Cousins makes most sense in Minnesota. The other teams linked to him are either "not winners" or in very good position to draft one of 3 or 4 quarterbacks this year who could be very very good.
I like ed's comments. A little outside the box, but I don't necessarily agree. I think if he's right and they don't go QB, I think they try like heck to trade back. Someone like buffalo is a possibility. I don't agree on saquon barkley and I don't think he's worth a top 2 pick. If the giants don't take QB, that pick is worth a lot more with teams trying to get ahead of the Broncos or jets or even the browns second pick.
I think a team like Denver wants a Darnold or Rosen and would like to get ahead of the giants who also might be targeting Darnold or Rosen.
Shurmur is a new HC in NY so he's going to be seeking his own QB. There is no better time to get one. They risk turning into the Browns if they pass on what could be a great QB drafted at 2. I'm saying giants draft a QB. Darnold would be ideal to sit behind Eli for a year.
I don't condone trading out of #1, but if it's determined Denver and new York are high on Rosen and Darnold, why not? If we trade back with Denver, I would entertain the notion of trading up from 4 to 3 to secure Mayfield. The jets are lurking and make me nervous.
I would put the quarterbacks as follows...
Browns - Mayfield Giants - Darnold Denver - Rosen
After that it doesn't matter. These are the top 3.

Agreed. I do not think Barkley to the Giants is far fetched at all.
Gettleman has come out in full support of moving forward with Eli Manning.
Barkley is an elite talent that also fills a big need and provides an immediate impact.
Kiper, Daniel Jeremiah and Rapoport have all said the Giants very well could take Barkley.

Both Mayfield and Allen are extremely likely to be available at #4. But here's my question. If Dorsey sees Mayfield or Allen to be the best QBs, how could he risk it? What makes him see something. that the Giants don't see, and he's so sure of it? That's why it's tough to speculate on that kind of stuff. It's also why getting cute is stupid. We have no idea what the Colts and Giants think of those two guys. If we rank either as our number 1 prospect, seems pretty clear to me that that's the one to take. I don't prefer either at this point. I like Rosen and Darnold. But I'll welcome with open arms whomever we take. But that's the kind of stuff that pisses me off. People say "That guy would have been available in _____ round, why'd we take him then?" Well, the only way to rate guys is from your own board. And you might as well assume that the other teams see it the same way you do because all it takes is one team (to see it that way) and I don't think there's any way to gauge what any other team thinks of a guy, except from "rumors" about specific players

Reading these threads about QBs kill me. Talk of trading back and waiting for someone to drop. That is what we been doing for years.
FA QB or not, this is a good QB class, if you don't take the one you feel is the best at #1, you are failing.
Time to do what good teams do. Draft the freaking best QB at #1 and don't look back. We don't need extra picks, we don't need "value", we need a QB.
All our picks are high, do not trade any of them. Pick the best players available at all spots. With these high picks, and the cap space we have, there is no reason this team should not be good next year. IMO, if they go under .500 next year, it will be a failed season.
RIP, Jim

In all fairness, in the event we sign Kirk Cousins, we'd be best off trading the #1 pick for a King's Ransom (and I think we'd get just that). The number 1 pick should be going to one of these Quarterbacks this year. The question is, which one, and who's picking at the number 1 pick. I normally don't advocate the idea of trading down or anything like that. And I don't think we'll be signing Cousins. But in the event we do, wasting the number 1 pick on anyone but a QB would be a mistake IMO. We'd have to hold that pick up and auction it to the highest bidder. Whether that's the Giants (who I think are looking at QBs), the Broncos, the Colts, the Jets, the Cardinals, the Bills, the Steelers, the Chargers, the Saints, and so on........... Many of the top QBs in this league are aging. And mix that with the teams that are unsatisfied with that position on their own roster, and there will be quite a market. With the number 1 pick, teams will know they'll get their guy as soon as they make that trade

Here’s the thing, no one posting on this site has any clue what is going on behind the closed doors of the NFL teams. A lot of folks have they’re opinion and they try to mold what facts they are aware of to support that opinion. Whatever anyone says right now, it isn’t any more valid than whatever it is you feel right now. You’re just as right and just as wrong as everyone else with an opinion. If this kind of stuff pisses off, you might want to consider waiting to engage in these conversations until a couple of days prior to the actual draft. I promise nothing will be altered or affected by you getting pissed off, that wasn’t going to happen anyway, other than you possibly getting your blood pressure up. Being that I too have no clue, I’m just going to sit back and read everything I’m interested in with a grain of salt. I’m not going to promote any one pick over another. I’m going to embrace and root for whoever is picked by the Browns. At that time I’ll start to do some research to get some background on who we have. I’m not going to be disappointed by any pick but instead elated by all of them.

In the scenario where Denver trades up the FO could require Denver divulge which QB they want as a stipulation of the trade....so the FO should know if Denver was gonna take "their QB"

I know many don't share this sentiment. For me signing Cousins is a concession that we aren't looking to be the best or trying to build a dynasty and that we are just going to try to win enough games to appease the owner and fans. We would become the Bengals.
The plan was to build a dynasty. How many dynasties are built by signing a 30 yr old quarterback?

I promise nothing will be altered or affected by you getting pissed off, that wasn’t going to happen anyway, other than you possibly getting your blood pressure up. lol, I think I wrote that with a poor choice of words. It doesn't [censored] me off. Maybe I meant, that that kind of stuff is what I don't get. Or that is the kind of stuff that baffles me. But no, I'm not pissed off and don't get pissed off about it. But yeah, basically, I just don't think our FO can put faith in anything but their own board, because teams are so secretive with their boards. They can listen up for rumors, and they can pay attention to pre-draft visits. They can use common sense (like common sense says that the Eagles will not use their first round pick on a QB). But after that, a team can only trust its board. Not only that, but there's so much you can't plan for. So to say, "The Browns think Mayfield is the best QB, but nobody else does, so we'll wait to draft him at 4." That's just ridiculous. If we think he's the best QB, then you draft him at 1...... Cause we don't know what anyone else's board is, and we don't know who might trade up/down. Like the Cody Kessler, "We could have gotten him in the 6th round" thing. Who says we could get him in the 6th round? Someone who isn't being paid to evaluate and pick talent on NFL Rosters? Do we know 31 other team's draft boards? Cause all it takes is one single team. I like to listen to the professional draft niks, but only for their analysis on players and because it's interesting. But I only put so much stock in what they say once the draft has happened. But yeah, I'm not pissed off. Just wrong choice of words In the scenario where Denver trades up the FO could require Denver divulge which QB they want as a stipulation of the trade....so the FO should know if Denver was gonna take "their QB" How the heck could we do that? I mean, can that actually be written into a trade? I've never heard of this

Hardly. I just bought into that Serenity prayer a long time ago. There is nothing about the situation I can change or affect in any way. So acceptance is the next positive action.

I guess it just depends on what Dorsey thinks of the middle to bottom end of the roster. I am more worried about the top of the roster. Decisions like this cost the Browns Julio Jones.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!
