Ex-Jaguars running back Chris Ivory visited the Browns Tuesday

By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Jaguars running back Chris Ivory visited the Browns on Tuesday after spending time with the Bills on Monday, a league source confirmed.

Ivory, who will turn 30 next month, was released by the Jaguars last week. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported the visit.

A ninth-year pro, Ivory was originally signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Washington State and Division II Tiffin in Ohio. A 2015 Pro Bowler, Ivory has rushed for 4,852 yards and 22 touchdowns in his eight seasons, including a 1,000-yard season with the Jets in 2015.

He was traded from the Saints to the Jets in 2013 and then signed a three-year free agent deal with the Jaguars on 2016. Playing behind No. 4 overall pick Leonard Fournette last season, Ivory rushed for 382 yards and a TD.

The Browns will be in the hunt for running backs with Isaiah Crowell set to hit the free agent market March 14.

The last street free agent to start his free-agent tour in Buffalo and then head to Cleveland, cornerback Vontae Davis, ended up signing with the Bills this week.

Yeah, Crow chasing money, then best of luck with him. Wanting top five money? IMO, he barely gets in top 10 in my eyes. I'm not at all opposed to Chris and maybe increasing more hand offs to Duke. I'm not at all opposed to addressing this in the draft in maybe the second round or so unless we move for Barkley. I'm not at all opposed to giving Crow a modest and fair contact either. Nothing too high at all. I'd rather extend Duke though, ultimately.

I'd be good with Ivory, re-signing Duke, and drafting someone in the mid rounds

I'm not I think we need to sign Duke and Draft either Barkley, Guice, or one of those RB's from UGA early even if we sign a vet ... JMHO

So you'd like:

Ivory
Barkley
Duke

I would use one of my 2nd rounders on a back. There will be 1st round talent there.

Take it. Duke, Ivory, Dayes, drafted player

I like Penny, Michel, and Kerryon Johnson better than Guice. I've been studying the RBs for awhile now. I have a thread about them that includes videos and strengths and concerns if you are interested.

Until we make our way through free agency, we won't know what players we actually need. Right now, it seems we are kicking the tires on anything that is a "has been" or a "could be".

Heck, we could sign Cousins, sign Bell, Robinson, Brent Grimes, Sammy Watkins, Kurt Coleman or Ron Parker, trade for trade for Trumaine Johnson, and still have 30 million in cap space.

I'm not saying that all of this is likely, I'm just saying that adding any of these players could totally change the draft landscape.

Glennon is one of those QB's that stood a chance of improving to the point he could have been a quality back up or bridge type QB. He's just one of those kids that really didn't progress.

It's a trap that Browns fans fall into all of the time. They think every draft pick on the team will get better and better. If that were actually true, the NFL would have a glut of talent and pro bowl players would be a dime a dozen. That's just not the way things work. Some get better and some don't.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Another is that our new draft picks will contribute a lot in their first year thereby making them serious upgrades THIS season. Even FA's take some time to get into the flow of their new team.

I'm curious to see what happens with Delvin Breaux. I'd be interested if the medical checks out.

At least we got a 2nd Round pick from our 1yr, $16M QB contract. thumbsup Bears got 4 games and horrible QB play out of theirs.

This is a very deep draft class for RB. The Browns will certainly pick one of them. Signing an experienced vet for the RB room plus having him available in case of injury is a good idea in my book.

Frank Gore has had some success. He'd be a very valuable backup.

We have a vet in the RB room .. we have Duke. He has grown into a veteran with the team.

True he is. But he's a different player, with three years. He's not expected to come in and be the heavy hitter if the starter goes down. In contrast Gore's 13 years experience is as a feature back, a bell cow back if you will. and for a lot more years. Gore's worst season, 2017, matches Crowell's ( four years) best season, 2016.

If they draft a running back, and I'm sure they will, having two vets and a bell cow backup is a good thing.

It may be nothing. They may be checking him out in case they have an emergency mid-season. Due diligence, knowing what's available.

I’d Be fine with getting Gore ... hes perfect for us to combine with Duke for a year or two ... only downside is his age ...

but it makes NO SENSE for gore ... i’d Imagine winning is important to him ...

I believe the Browns should continue to build the team to compete in the AFC North. I would sign CB Johnson, FS Joyner, DE Richardson if they can be lured to Cleveland. The DC connection to the Rams players may help in signing them. Richardson would be a nice addition as well along the front 4.

I would resist signing a FA QB. I would consider a lesser FA QB as insurance. Perhaps signing the Mike Glennon when the Bears release him. I would take a QB at #1 and give that player a chance to start immediately. Glennon would be the insurance policy.

I would try to sign WR Pryor at a reduced price. He did not produce with Kirk Cousins throwing the ball. He produced in Cleveland when the Browns did not have other options. They have other options now with Gordon back in the fold. I would like to get him back and see what he could do when he is not the entire focus and has a OC like Haley.

I would not spend much more than on these FA's. I would extend contracts on my own core players and let non-core players go. I believe this formula if it is able to be implemented would give the other teams in the AFC North fits defensively.

I think a good low key FA RB signing will be Charles Sims...Guy still has very young legs, is a superb receiver and will be a good committee back (specially if we land a RB early in the draft) And ontop of that he'll be cheap insurance policy

This would be an ideal scenario for Cleveland. Get him to a one/two year deal (prove it) contract and draft a young QB. Tons of options with this moving forward if things work out well for Teddy.

Imo we couldn't rely on him to be a bridge QB. If signing a Kirk, or drafting a QB high up/#1 overall what we're to do, surely one of the other - will make no good situation for him or his future if signing short term and looking for an opportunity to prove himself.

Maybe his health is not a concern and he could be a good bridge QB. Then yeah, win win for both sides. He gets his snaps, we get our starter as young QB jedi learns. I think Teddy would be more than happy to teach a young kid.

QB Room could be Bridgewater, Draft QB, Kizer.

Cut Hogan & Cody "Trust Me" Kessler.
