Yeah, now Charlie only has to worry about 1 guy taking his job instead of 2.

The kid is not under contract. The kid is not a Brown. After OTA's do you really think we let him walk out with the playbook in hand

These posts prove my point. At this point the ones who are looking for a reason to rip him have it....2 more weeks isn't going to make it any or much worse.

Or maybe those that supported the pick are a little aggravated that he wants top 10 money when he was drafted 22nd.

Well, Ammo's reply will be that he played high school football and they gave HIM a playbook to walk around with, so he "gaurantees" that Quinn has one.

I agree....but I am sure he has some notes.
And you bring up a good point...if the guy isn't under contract, is he really a holdout??

Yes. Guaranteed.
He may not be under contract and may not be permitted on the premises, in meetings or to practice or interact with the coaches.... but we own him; lock, stock & barrel.

I don't know if he really cares. I really doubt players hold anything against other players who haven't signed. They understand it is just business.
I don't really think chuck is very good, but he is probably going about things like he normally would and who and who isn't in camp really doesn't matter. In the end, he knows the only thing he can control is his own play and emotions.

Show me one credible report that shows that the hold up is indeed that he wants Top 10 money.... I haven't seen any.
I've seen plenty that speak of everything being a done deal except the amount of the guaranteed money.... that says to me that everything, including total contract value, is a done deal...except how much of it is guaranteed..... but I have yet to see anything that places any actual figures on it aside from the single report this morning that says the Team's idea for the guaranteed money is in the $8M ballpark.
If ya want to be P.O.'d at him, great... just let it be a rational reason and not an imagined one based on hearsay and non-credible reporting.

I had no problems with the pick on Draft Day. That is to say picking Brady Quinn. What I had a problem with was giving up as much as we did to get him. But if he is as good as Diam says he is then that will be water under the bridge in 3-4 years. I just don't think he's as good as Diam says he is. My personal opinion, which isn't worth all that much, is that he is only slightly better than Charlie. Hence, not worth the pick or the money he's asking for.
But, I'd be doing the same thing if I were him. You get as much up front as you can. Because you never know what the future will bring.

I'm with you DC... it's no sweat off my back, but that is mostly because the two I was concerned with are in camp already. I could care less if or when Quinn gets in as long as we get him signed before the start of the season.
Everyone getting all worked up over this is acting way out of proportion to the situation. Also, anyone thinking he needs to worry about how the fans will perceive him over this is mistaken and perhaps inflating their own self-worth.... Brady shouldn't and likely doesn't care a bit about what anyone thinks about this. Quinn needs to and is taking care of Quinn.... it is like he says - one of the few times that he is in control of his life... once he signs, the Browns are in control of it.
The fans will love or hate him based on how he plays, those that hate him for a contract holdout regardless of what he does on the field will be people that just didn't like the kid or the pick from the start and have it as Grudge fodder.

Everyone should stop crying about Quinn being in camp. He's got to get the best contract he can get. You'd all do the same thing. It sucks, yes. But at least he's working his butt off instead of just lounging around the house waiting to be signed. We'll sign him. He'll get in camp. He'll be fine. Suck it up Browns fans.

Same here. I think Frye and Anderson also deserve a shot to show what they can do with our improved OL blocking for them. Let whoever wins that battle start. See how they do. And if they stink it up bring in Quinn around week 10 or so. I'd prefer to see him sit the whole season though. Seems like QB's who sit for a year come in and do much better their first season as opposed to not sitting.

It's gotta be the age, I feel the same way, Sign & Play or Dont and go away, someone else will step in & play, The game will go on, no matter if Brady is on our sideline, behind center or at home on the couch...it's schedule it will be played...now where's my teeth

Purp, I heard it on the radio today. It may well have been a rumor, but it was being talked about.
I loved picking Quinn. I loved the fact that we had 3 very good draft picks. I don't begrudge Quinn trying to get what he can. However, if he is half as good as Diam thinks he will be in 3 years, then you can rest assured if he signs for #22 money now that Savage and Lerner will SPRINT to the shredder to tear up that contract and give him a new one worth MUCH more money.

It is his future and he shouldn't sign until he feels he is getting what he wants.
Certainly, that's a true statement. The problem isn't him signing for something less than what he wants, the problem may be him wanting something his draft position doesn't say he should expect..
I think we all can agree that if Quinn is asking for the kinda money a Top 5 pick in the draft normally gets, that's just wrong.
I have no problem with him attempting to get the best deal,,, that's the American Way.. But he should temper his expectations, given he was the 22nd pick, not the 10th.

None of you guys will hate him if he holds out 2 weeks and he comes out and dominates (See Winslow). All that matters is he plays at a good level, everyone forgets Winslow's what... 17 day hold out? Just wait until Quinn hits the field to judge him, yeah it sucks that he's not in and yeah it sucks even more because our qb's aren't that great... Look at it this way, hes the 22nd pick in the draft... The #1 and #2 picks aren't in, but Phil managed to get the #3 in, thats a good thing... Quinn should be a great player, and I want him in there as much as the next guy, but don't HATE someone just because they want to get a nice contract... It sucks for us but we have to be patient.

Heck with it. I like Quinn, but him saying what he's saying in public shows greed in action. I don't normally think that about hold-outs, but his arrogance is making me lean that way.

Listen to charlie and read some of his quotes. I think he is taking it personally..
That may sound like I'm rooting for Charlie to win the job,,, I'm really not. But if all of this makes him step up and earn it and keep it, the team will be benefit and by proxy,, so will the fans.. The tougher the compitition the better the end result SHOULD be..

Don't know if this has been posted yet... Columnist Bud Shaw says Browns need to get Brady Quinn in Tuesday, July 31, 2007 Bud Shaw Plain Dealer Columnist Nobody roots for Goliath, or the training-camp holdout. The usual factors are grinding on Brady Quinn this time around. It's the same old dance. Negotiations slow to a waltz. Player gets slammed for not being eternally grateful for the chance to play pro football - and in this case wear the proud jersey of a 4-12 team - while the organization earns a free pass for not getting him into camp on time. Advertisement If Quinn and the Browns haven't reached an agreement in another week, there will be so many warnings that he's falling hopelessly behind you'll think he was a rocket scientist pulling a Ferris Bueller with a launch just around the corner. Quinn has managed to incur double the customary wrath. He's skewered for not only missing training-camp repetitions but for having the audacity to accept memorabilia company money to show up at a public autograph session. Apparently that's the next worst thing to running a dogfighting ring. You mean players get paid to sign merchandise, some of which gets put on eBay and sold for a profit? Which decade ago did this start? Quinn's appearance at Great Northern Mall was regularly advertised on radio as a paid session. So that should've taken care of the "buyer-beware." Why do players get paid? Because they can. It's even more simple than the next question. Why do quarterbacks often get paid more than their teammates? Because they should. They get chewed up and spit out every year in the NFL. Former Browns quarterback/tackling dummy Tim Couch is attempting a comeback at age 30, having seen his promising career crushed under an avalanche of pass rushers and an injury to his throwing arm. Advertisement Other members of the acclaimed Class of '99 flamed out. Couch became the only one besides Donovan McNabb on an NFL roster when he signed with Jacksonville on Sunday for the veteran minimum. So there are risks for the team (Akili Smith, Cade McNown) as well as the player. Couch was far from a star here, but he was good enough to play in the league if he were better protected and had ended up somewhere other than an expansion team. Nobody knows whether Quinn will be good, great or a haunting disappointment. Charlie Weis thinks he does. The Notre Dame coach's recommendation made believers out of the Browns, who spent next year's No. 1 pick to move up to take Quinn at No. 22. If the Browns didn't think he would amount to something, that was a ridiculous price to pay. They had him rated much higher, as did many teams. Quarterbacks are special cases. Try winning without a good one. Quinn might not have great leverage as the 22nd pick. But the last time anyone checked, the Browns still had Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye competing for the No. 1 job. That wasn't palatable to the Browns at season's end or they wouldn't have moved on Quinn in the draft. Phil Savage said recently Quinn was a long shot to start even if he'd made it to camp on time. That's probably true, but there's no reason to think Anderson-Frye is suddenly an appetizing prospect with a new season approaching. The Browns obviously think Quinn is important to the immediate future of the franchise. It's as much on them as him to find a way to close the deal and start looking ahead. Not everybody would. Some of us who were hungry to EARN the starting job, and who wanted to play for their favorite team would sign for 12 million in gaurentees and a 18 million dollar contract rather than hold out for 13 million in gaurentees and a 19 million contract.

The comments were made in jest, too. It was obvious he was joking around because he was talking about the boxing he was doing in his training, but he didn't want to have his face messed up by sparring.
