Am I the only person that realizes that we can post crime reports about every freaking ethnic, economic, political, religious, gender, sexual preference, and every other freaking group in the world?

Yet, we have certain posters on here that are so hung up on race and categorizing people that they feel the need to highlight only one group's claims.

Not sure about Clem, but my family and I had one of my former students and her parents over for dinner and a night of socializing recently. And yes, they were here illegally.

I think I told you the story before about the girl. She was really, really smart. Very respectful. But, she missed a ton of school. I used to get on her case about missing school and she tearfully told me about her situation.

I met w/her parents who were both employed in service type jobs. Dad was a landscaper and mom cleaned houses. They worked long hours and didn't ask for a dime. They were very respectful and appreciative for me being one of their daughter's teachers.

They are very good people. They work hard. I know they are here illegally, but they don't break other laws. They want to become citizens, but the damn laws are freaking crazy. All I know is that they are not the criminals that arch, Diam, and the OP say they are.

Price tags at the mall are crazy IMO.....that doesn’t justify me stealing anything at the stores there.

If my dinner guest has jay walked or sped over the speed limit, I begin to forcibly remove them from the table and don't even give them a doggy bag.

Walk away. From a reasonable deal, I think the 12 years to become a citizen is a bit long (2-3 times too long), but other than that...

Remember, we've been told on here over and over that illegals, red brown yellow black or white (there's a song behind that) don't get benefits. We've been told, on here, that they don't collect any benefits.

im dead ass right now. this is my first time ever hearing this claim from conservatives, that liberals stated that they don't receive benefits.

Ted, I am not sure if you are aware of this, but I am neither left or right. I think it is best to treat each individual situation on its own merits.

So, you support illegals, being in this country illegally, and getting benefits illegally. Ok.

My white dinner guests do this anyway and I ask them why they do so. They say they're American and it is their right. As a result, I have lost my land and my family. When I mention this to them and their children, they say it doesn't matter and that they owe me nothing.

They do receive benefits, one of which is public school. The cleveland area spends roughly $15k per student, 6.5% of those are non-English speaking. I don't have numbers on how many are illegal, and the numbers I presented are from 2012. The author of the article did not include those numbers.

At 15k per student, 1000 illegal kids is costing $15 million. Thats a lot of tax money going to people not paying into the system. It has already been determined by many courts around the country that they are going to educate these kids no matter their status.

All my friends are American citizens. Most who are my age to 20 years younger are 2nd gen already. Like: born here Americans. I teach their kids. They come to my concerts. Their kids are into scouting and video games. Their High School orchestra director (and music director of the Youth Philharmonic) is named Wasim Hawary. They work in all walks of life, pay taxes and vote. And they buy homes and become neighbors and hang out with white folk and us brown ones, too. It's really kinda cool, Diam.

But we're good at it because we've had 100 years of experience at it. Nothing improves a person more than practice. Google us, and you'll see: there has been a strong Middle East connection to this part of America since the early 1900's. People in other places who don't have this history have a hard time understanding how we do it. Or why we do it. I don't have an answer for that. All I know is that it's been like this forever and it's just daily life.

We all just get along, for the most part. It's not utopia. It's still a big-ish city, with all the crap that goes with that. But Arabs, Lebanese, Syrians, Egyptians, [insert country of origin here] just aren't a problem. What's even crazier: no matter what country they came from, they get along here... even if their countries were mortal enemies back home.

Guess why? Diam, the answer's gonna shock you.
They get along here in NW Ohio/ SE Michigan because they all came to America to get away from that environment. To have something better for their kids. To be something better. They get along with themselves and all of us because we've all agreed to, I guess. With a history of 3-4 generations of citizenship, they've proven to be exactly the kinds of immigrants we should be welcoming. For us, this is what 'being an American' is about. That whole Middle East thing is almost never a reason that people make our local news.

All people who are here illegally are criminals because they are breaking US law. Period. To stay here illegally they have become liars and cheats also. That's not my opinion. It's fact. It's a lifestyle choice that I find repugnant.

I don't care about dreamers because we have our own citizens who are starving and poorly educated. Let's take care of our own citizens before nurturing lawbreakers.
