Let's be honest.
We have draft assets. 5 in the first two rounds.
Outside of running back most drafted players before they actually contribute need a year of work to get up to speed.
Once in a while someone is good and makes things happen quickly. However, that is normally not the case.
If the Browns are going to win games in 2018 we need veteran players to step in and upgrade team talent.
Quarterback. Pretty clear the Browns do not want to start another rookie.
We have over $100 mil in cap space.
Where do we need to spend it?
My take:
We need one maybe two receivers.
We need help in the secondary.
Depth at LB.
Assuming Joe returns. We still need some OL depth.
DL: If a guy is out there who is an upgrade; get him.
Not up to speed on what Haley likes to do. maybe there is a guy he really likes in FA that can help. ============================================
For my point of view. Look at who is out there and if a guy can be an upgrade; go get him.

That thread is already at nine pages. Probably good to start a new thread since we're in the starting blocks.

I doubt that they will go free agency for a RB.
No matter how it shakes out with Quon. They will draft a RB and maybe more than one.
I am unsure if Haley uses a FB or more TE's sets. But they will address the running game.

Sam Shields - DB - Free Agent
Free agent CB Sam Shields will visit the Browns. Shields hasn't played since Week 1 of the 2016 season, when he was still a Packer. Shields finished that year on injured reserve with concussion issues before spending 2017 out of the league. He turned 30 in December. Were he to land a Browns contract, he would be facing long odds of cracking the 53-man roster.

He’s actually visiting the lambs first ... then us the next day ....
He also said one more concussion and he’s done ... he’s had 5 and hasn’t played since the first game of 16 because of them ...

another CB to visit ... looks like we know what our first priority seems to be IMO
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Team needs overall in my estimation: QB > CB > S > RT > RB > WR
WR + RB: With the exception of some standouts (ex. Landry trade) these are probably going to be addressed in the draft.
RT: Wouldn't mind drafting one in 2nd round to compete and provide depth. We always seems to just be terrible on OL if one our starters go down. Would also take one in FA but don't see any worth the contract they'll command.
S: Will draft one almost certainly.
CB: Trumaine Johnson is our top target probably. Wouldn't mind getting him AND drafting one. You can never really get enough good CBs.
QB: Looks like we'll have AJ McCarron as starter while the QB we draft at #1 or 4 sits. The rookie will probably come in if we are less than .500 by game 5 tho. It's just how it works hah. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Bridgewater, but the problem is then we'd have to cut Kizer and I think most of us agree it's too soon to do that. Maybe if we get a good trade offer.

QB - CB - LT - FS - RB - MLB - WR
This draft will determine our identity both on O and on D, so there are a number of ways this off season can develop, specially on D.

Quarterback. Pretty clear the Browns do not want to start another rookie. I am not giving you grief, bro..........but why is that pretty clear?

A lot of calls for a RT. I still don't think Coleman is a bust yet. He was basically a rookie last year, improved as the year progressed, and has had an off-season to assimilate lessons learned. Now we want to replace him with another rookie to start the learning curve all over again?

JC...
Like many others I feel our biggest need in most dire order... QB, FS, WR, CB, T, HB, LB
I'll skip QB there is too many debates already discussing different avenues on producing one....Sign say Bridgewater and draft Rosen/Darnold/Mayfield etc at 1a.
FS...I think everyone saw and understood how our defense was so off without a true rangy center field FS....This is by far our biggest need on defense. I think Joyner will get locked up in FA, so I wouldn't mind say Kenny Vacarro and a draft pick for FS (say Deshone Elloitt in round 3).
WR...Huge need as our WR core is amongst the worst if not the worst...several of our wideouts need sent packing...FA has some players, however nobody really elite...Will need to bring in a FA at bare minimum and draft one, heck maybe even two. Perhaps Terrelle Pryor (rare for anyone actually wanting to play in Cleveland, but seems like he likes it here) If WR Sutton is there at the top of round two, he has to come in play.
CB For some odd reason I can see us throwing money at TJ Carrie...though he isn't an ohio boy, he did play at Ohio University...and he's never mentioned...have not seen us linked to Trumaine Johnson at all (though I pimped him heavily his draft year as a sleeper) He'd be my preference. Would not mind Isiah Oliver in late round 2 as well.
T market is horrible in FA, I'm also assuming Joe Thomas is back this year. May even double dip at this position...(Rankins in round 2 would be ideal...Or even a trade up for McGlinchey would be better)
HB...We have Duke Johnson and that kid from NC State whom is a decent prospect for our #3...While I think Carlos Hyde would present great value (RB's get cheaper contracts nowadays) He will probably ink a deal elsewhere...For sake of this writing I say we nab Saquon Barkley at 1b...And sign a cheap deal with HB Charles Sims...We will have Barkley, Duke, Sims, all whom catch very well...also should carry Dayes too (remembered him now)
LB...Need another piece as once Jamie Collins was hurt, D suffered some...Spend a late 4th on a guy...Idk maybe Armstrong? But Idk how fluid he is for coverage assignments
And just improve the depth at will and where talent dictates with the additional picks.

Just all the comments from Hue, Dorsey, and the reporters who cover the team.
The last two years hurt. Super hard on the moral of all involved.
Kessler and Kizer tried but that is a lot to put on a rookies plate.
I doubt that they want to go through that again.
Winning is front and center now and a vet who gives them that chance is most likely the preferred approach.

I didn't think Spencer Drango did that bad of a job at LT. Not saying he's elite but the position didn't fully crumble away when Thomas went down.

I think his play was good enough for us not to get desperate on drafting that position. I dont think any stand out this class. JT probably plays this year maybe next??? But we would have to make it a priority in the 2019 draft.
To look n get them to play RT and then LT. Also you got Drango who should progress n a possible Coleman moving over??? At least to compete.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

I just read that we have $108 million in Cap Space ... that's quite a bit

I'd rather have him over Landry.

I think Landry is wildly overrated and inconsistent and wouldn't want to give up any of our second rounders for him. But to each his own.

Robinson and Landry would be sweet.
The only drawbacks are that Robinson had that knee injury and I don't know how healthy he is. He is a good route runner, gets separation w/sharp cuts, and has good hands.
It sucks Miami tagged Landry. He has great hands, is very physical, is consistent, runs well after the catch and can run very good routes.
Man, those two w/Gordon would be something. It's not going to happen, but one can dream. LOL

I don't see too many with this opinion here, but I agree with you. I was reading something where his 3rd Down conversion rate is not good even though you keep hearing how great he is...I guess the stats don't lie. I also believe we have a guy already here who can be better than Landry. Let's just use him.

A slot receiver who averaged only 8.8 yards per catch. Caught a lot of balls, 112 but for only 987 yards. He is what he is. Better then what we have but is he what we need?

This could help us immediately. I agree, if he is there, grab him. Decent receivers could have won us a few games if Kizer had found them.

Please no more veteran FA wide receivers. I cannot take one more flop. You have Gordon and Coleman. Draft one in the second round and see what you get from them. The Browns are not really set to win the AFC North this season without some luck and Landry is not the luck they need.
I have not read much here about Trumaine Johnson and Lamarcus Joyner associated with the Cleveland Browns? I wonder why not? The connection to the Browns DC and the Browns have the money.
FA QB talk for the Browns worries me. Have the Browns had any luck bringing in veteran FA QB's? The NFL norm would be to draft a QB at #1 overall and give him the keys to the offense. The talk about sitting a #1 overall pick behind some average to below average FA QB is defeatist talk. The Eagles did not draft Wentz and sit him. The Cowboys did not draft Prescott and sit him. The Bucs, Titans, and Rams did not sit their early first round picks. I believe the plan should be to evaluate the QB's in this years draft. Draft the one you like best at #1 overall. Build an offense to get the most out of their talent. Start them week 1.

Kenny Britt - WR - Patriots
Patriots exercised Kenny Britt's 2018 team option.
Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Pats are "looking for big things out of him." We wouldn't be so sure about that, but the Pats now have an offseason to see if Britt is ready to put his disastrous 2017 behind him. Signed by the Pats in mid-December, Britt barely saw the field, and was a healthy scratch for the Super Bowl. He turns 30 in September. None of his $1.5 million 2018 salary is guaranteed.

When was the last time we actually had even ONE WR who could sit in the Soft Spot in a Zone, Run a Slant or an Out and actually CATCH the damn ball? JUREVICIOUS. Landry's a damn STUD.
