In case you didn’t know, @mortreport reported that Damarious Randall isn’t playing CB in CLE. He’s moving back to FS, as many had speculated.

Interesting. Maybe Minkah at 4 is a lesser possibility now?

I would think so.

I guess Minkah could play CB, but the Browns are tied to a few FAs at the position already. We'll see how it shakes out.

If that is the case, and the GB guys we brought in think he's starter material at FS (which is suspect to me... was GB sandbagging on defense by playing a guy out of position?), then that might get me to jump on the Barkley bandwagon. Going into the draft without a move like this had me convinced that we couldn't do anything EXCEPT draft Minkah at 4. Now we have some flexibility.

Ever since Pdawg posted that snippet, I too have opened my book a little more on the Barkley possibility. Flexibility is one way of putting it lol!

He was a highly rated FS coming out of college. He moved to CB because of Clinton-Dix.

Very interesting turn of events moving him to FS potentially. Gives us some serious flexibility.

What is the difference between speculation and report these days?

Not that I disagree about the possible move to FS, I mentioned earlier in this thread that he was a highly rated FS in college and only moved to CB because at the combine he moved and tested better then most of the CBs there.

I just want to know if this is speculation or a report=fact.

I listened to the podcast that Mort said this on. He stated it as fact.

Don't take this as shooting the messenger.

But these days many reports are stated as fact then turn out not to be but it gets repeated by so many other media members that it becomes accepted.

I'm just skeptical these days...i mean how would Mort "know" what the Browns were thinking unless he spoke to someone on the staff in the know. And it seems the leaks have stopped from the FO. *shrugs* Randall is already under contract, there is nothing to stop a coach/team official from going on the record.

Just seem odd to me that this is coming from Mort without attribution to a member of the staff. Smells like speculation.

I'm not saying its not going to happen. In fact i wouldn't be surprised if it does happen.

All I am saying is that right now media members are running with the FS idea based on speculation (which we all can do) and a Mortensen 'report'.

I would prefer to hear it from a team source before people run with it as a fact. That's all i'm saying.

Right. We're not done tinkering with the secondary. I'd expect at least a corner in FA and another in the draft and possibly drafting an FS later. I'm not ruling out Minkah but Chubb or a trade down for an LT or for Ward seems more likely now. (Though trading down seems silly, we don't need picks.)

Randall is going to be a tremendous FS. He had 10 picks in his 3 years as a corner. Dude was ment to be a true ballhawk.

I hope so we need a rangy center fielder in the worst way...Need a viable option to push him or back him up as well (perhaps draft)

I wonder if he'll line up within 40yds of the los.

Until Andrew Hawkins mentioned it on the most recent ThomaHawk Show podcast I had completely forgotten about Josh Gordon and Demarious Randall's little spat after the Browns vs Packers game last year. Should make for some fun practices this year between those two.

Apparently Josh hit him up on Instagram on Friday, saying he's gonna make practice hell for Randall.

Yep. Gordon is going to give him hell all camp.

My favourite line was, "Once you're in, you're kin." Such a cool welcome from Gordon. He's been great this offseason. Posting a lot of positive stuff, a lot of Browns stuff, engaging with his team mates and newest-additions consistently.

Super happy for him. Randall won't back down either. Should make for some exciting competition.

With Randall being moved to FS, however, they won't be seeing too much of each other. Damn shame. Those cross-training sessions will be fun.
