Will anyone here want Tyrod to ride the bench if he leads the Browns to the playoffs like he did the Bills? This could lead into a very interesting trade on day 1 between the Browns and the Bills. If the Bill offer their two first round picks this year and their first next year then you could well see the Browns trading out of 1 or 4. They would then be in a perfect place to draft Mason, Lamar, or Allen at 21 before the Steelers would land them. There would be no need to rush them to start after drafting them there. The Browns pick up 2 extra first round pics plus a second rounder most likely too and maybe even this pick we just sent them for Tyrod.
I would be thrilled if this trade became a reason we ended up with Mason. We would be in a prime spot also to draft Washington with him so they could maintain that great chemistry or even Courtland who I think is the best WR in this draft. It would make our receiving corps a very dangerous one to say the least especially if we landed Saquan at #4.
The thought of fielding some combination of Gordon, Landry, Coleman, Courtland or Washington, Nojoku, Saquan, or Duke on the field at any given moment literally sends chills down my spine. Can a QB even fail with talent like that on offense? My Goodness!!! We've been trading down/acquiring picks since Banner was here. I'm sick of doing that. It's time these picks turn into players contributing to a playoff run. Based on Landry, Tyrod and the Randall trades - I have no doubt whatsoever that Dorsey is putting pieces in place to win and contribute game 1. With that said - if a trade down yields you enough future rewards/value then it can still make sense despite the past 2 years of trading back. I would not be willing to drop to 21 however ... maybe not out of the top 10. But I'd listen to offers, especially from the Jets and the Broncos.

The best thing about Tyrod Taylor is that is means no AJ McCarron.
I'm happy with this trade.

I'm happy with this trade also and believe TT is a bridge QB for us. That being said, when you look at TT, how he plays, his stats, etc. he's probably better than any QB we've had since we've come back. Hard too believe but true.

I don't think for a minute that we aren't taking a QB at 1 or 4. TT is a stop gap, but he will start for us this season. Super excited, I expected TT to be a Brown last season so I am not shocked. However, he doesn't fit that mold for Hue or Haley, but as others have said he will be a solid QB who is safe with the ball. Exactly what we didn't have last season.
Regarding Kizer...he was/is a broken player. Getting out now and learning from arguably the best of the best is exactly what he needs to reignite his love, his passion and help his confidence. I think it was the best move possible and a respectful move on Dorsey's part.

He's less likely to throw an INT. He's Actually won games. He's a stop gap that didn't cost us much really and he's not long term answer.
Might be a decent stop gap. I'm not in love with this, but getting rid of the INT Machine Kizer was wise. We couldn't have him mentoring a young QB....

Daman...totally agree with your take about Tyrod Taylor. At the least, he should be a decent stop gap, but the guy does have the NFL experience and talent to be more.
Reviewing some of his video, the guy moves well in the pocket and doesn't seem to panic and airmail ints when running out of time. He did take 46 sacks last season and only threw 4 ints while completing 62.6% of his passes.
I had hoped that Kizer would remain a Brown, but trying to figure out how he would fit in was difficult to imagine, if the Browns were drafting a QB. The priority for the Browns would be to develop your 2018 rookie..not developing Kizer.
Kizer was going to be the #3 QB for the Browns if they added a bridge QB and drafted a QB in 2018.
The trade brings a starting CB to the Browns in exchange for a #3 QB. Kizer could develop into good QB in time and I wish him the best except when playing against the Browns.

I like the idea of Tyrod Taylor as a bridge quarterback because he's safe with the football, and we'll be adding weapons that will greatly help his game. With Haley calling the plays, that will probably open his game up a bit. I also like that it allows our rookie QB to sit, and once he takes over their will have value in a trade scenario, if that's the direction we choose to go.

This will be interesting with Taylor.
He's never had the luxury of a Gordon, Landry, Njoku to throw to. I leave out Duke because he had Mccoy.
If we add Robinson that's crazy over the top.

We know Dorsey is a sharp GM that isn't going to overpay. I think his reputation as a talent evaluator is solid. I think overpaying/cap management for personnel has been a weakness and I think it has been brought up many times. I think this is a situation where he overpaid. The Landry deal, not at all. So you think he made a good deal on the Landry trade and for no reason randomly over paid for Tyrod? I don't. Tyrod is starting caliber QB in a league where even AJ McCarron has a market. No problem. I think the 65th pick was too much. Fair enough. I am kind of on the fence. Though I remind myself that the #65 pick was our 6th pick in this draft.

mayfield could learn from him?
so much for all the talk about 6`4 qbs...
i hope he`s not the next qb to come here to end his career.
I`m good with Baker... Playoffs is good enough for me.

I guess time will tell if Taylor was worth a 3rd rd. pick. He seems to me he is a lot like Alex Smith in style of play and stats. He should at the very least keep the seat warm until a rookie is ready. He just may play well enough to make the Browns respectable for a change.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

All I know is last season I felt like I was left out of football. On the outside looking in. When the season was over I had no hope to hold on to. I rooted for him because he was our QB, but every time Kizer touched the ball I was on the edge of my seat wondering if he would make a bad throw, or a pick, or if it was caught would the WR be immediately tackled because the ball came in late giving the DB too much time to react. There was rarely ever a time I felt we had a chance.
Taylor has his own faults but tossing picks ain't one of them. Neither is consistently bad throws to wide open WR's. With Landry in the mix and a drafted RB I feel, at the least, we stand the chance to win a few games. Maybe not. But I feel I can guarantee myself it will look better than 2017.
Trading Kizer was the most humane thing that could have been done for him. Imagine yourself still being on the team while they sign a vet QB and draft another within the first four picks. You'd have to feel pretty insignificant and left out. How totally uncomfortable that would be to deal with. It would be like living with your girlfriend unable to legally move out while she picks up a couple more boyfriends. As soon as last season was over I began feeling bad for him.
At least now he is away from all the reminders of the 0-16 season. He is in new surroundings, on a winning team, with a couple of vet QB's in the QB room to learn from. I'm not going to count the wins in that QB room but it's one hell of a lot better than where he came from. It was the only thing Dorsey could do and he did it.

I don't see Taylor as a bridge QB, I see Taylor as the "potential answer" for years to come. Simply put the rookie is going to have to outplay him and that simply isn't going to happen for at least 3 years. Yes, I see Taylor signing an extension here, and being here longterm. I like this trade. Taylor has: 1. 60%+ completion percentage the last 3 years 2. has thrown for 3,000+ yards two of the last three seasons 3. has thrown 51 Td passes to only 16 INTs in the last three seasons 4. he has a career QB rating over 90. http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/14163/tyrod-taylorthats not a bridge, thats your potential answer. Taylor frees the Browns up to take Barkley at #1 (then we have Taylor, Landry, Barkley, and Gordon on O, the big 4) and lets us take the Qb of our choice at 4(all the QB grade pretty close to each other, there isn't a lot of drop in talent level, and all the guys need to sit 1-2 years anyways) Barkley is a generational talent, he may be the best RB we have had since Jim Brown...his running style is very similiar to Barry Sanders...he is the type of talent that can turn this organization around, and he increases the success percentage the Qb we take at #4 pans out. this really is a no brainer at this point...guess we will see if Dorsey is like every other highly regarded guy that comes to the Browns, either his brain will quit working the few years he is here(squandering the chance for a bona fide playmaker in Barkley) , or he takes the guy he knows he needs to(Barkley) and starts winning out the gate. for Qb we have Rosen, Mayfield, Allen, and Darnold After pick #1 two teams will pick before we do again at 4...two of those four guys will be available at #4...Math says our greatest chance of success is we take Barkley...Barkley will be gone if we don't take him at #1 because other teams are not stupid enough to pass on that kinda talent regardless of their need. Whoever we take at QB is going to have to sit this year, and the Browns need to pick up another Qb in Fa to ensure the rookie sits at 3rd on the depth chart all year...Barkley makes it much easier for the rookie qb to work out because teams will have to game plan for Barkley taking a lot of the pressure off the rookie...Brady and Rodgers are the only two QB in the NFL today that can win without a bona fide run threat...none of the rookies coming out will be able to do that atleast not for a few years depending... the winds of the NFL are changing...Gurley, Elliot, and Fournette have changed the value of RB's, and those who think RB are no longer worth high picks are beliving outdated anachronistic draft philosphy, the NFL changing again, either we adapt or die... you want to sniff the playoffs next year? Take Barkley...its very simple...no one thought the Jags would get as far as they did with Bortles, but Fourneete made a huge impact, Elliot did the same with Dallas and Prescott sucked without Elliot...the writing is on the wall.

Don't kill me, but in a way, Taylor reminds me a bit of Alex Smith, when he was acquired by KC.
Both are veterans, who had decent, though not spectacular careers at the time of their trades. They each have had excellent TD/INT ratios, but neither guy had thrown for more than 20 TD in any season at the time of their trades. Each guy could make plays with his legs. Each guy had questions about his willingness and ability to make plays down the field. Neither guy is going to lead the league in TD passes, but they can be good, solid, average type QBs, and last year, Smith actually took a big step forward. (just in time to get traded again)
I like this add, even at the cost of our 3rd round pick.

best case scenario: this turns into a drew brees/philip rivers type thing and TT plays so well that he's tough to take off the field

Why not? (Not to be just argumentative.) If he wins games, is that not the most important thing? Wouldn’t you take an Alex Smith that got you 10 wins a year? Who knows how Any of these “franchise” QBs coming out will actually do.?

Just to add some spice to the conversation, I went to Pro Football Focus and checked out Donovan McNabb’s stats for his first five seasons. Taylor has comparable numbers, with a few better categories.

If he wins enough games we would be foolish to bench him for a rookie. What if he gets us to the playoffs like he did Buffalo? There are no guarantees on rookies as we all have learned the hard way. Lets not be so quick to form an opinion of what he can be until we see how he plays for the Browns. Too many so called experts may be wrong about Taylor's ceiling. I don't expect Tom Brady but he should be better than we've had in a long, long time. Lets put some weapons around him. We are coming off a 1-31 stretch where everyone is so used to losing. I am optimistic things are turning around.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

I know this much ... when you have a great running game and a QB who is accurate and doesn't turn the ball over then you have a real chance to win a lot of games.
You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

Some more spice. According to Football Outsiders, the Bills offensive ranked 27th in run, and 31st in pass. The Browns were 14th in run, and 22nd in pass. Soooo, if TT can get them to the playoffs.....

You talk about TT like he is Tom Brady. He is not TB. Talk to some of the fans in Buffalo. Barkley is not Jim Brown. Dorsey was hired to finally find us a Franchise QB. He better or he will be down the road like a lot of other GM's we had here and I don't mean other teams left overs. Francise QBs win games position players help but how many games did Miles Garrett win us last year? FIND ME MY QB

Taylor frees the Browns up to take Barkley at #1 (then we have Taylor, Landry, Barkley, and Gordon on O, the big 4) and lets us take the Qb of our choice at 4(all the QB grade pretty close to each other, there isn't a lot of drop in talent level, and all the guys need to sit 1-2 years anyways) Ok, I get your point, Taylor could be the answer much like Smith was the answer in KC. If that's the case, why not do something like; 1. Barkley 4. Fitzpatrick 33. BPA 35. BPA 64. Best QB still on the board (Jackson/Randolph/White/Lauletta) ? You guys kill me. You talk about TT like he is Tom Brady. He is not TB. Talk to some of the fans in Buffalo. Barkley is not Jim Brown. Dorsey was hired to finally find us a Franchise QB. I said he has some good stats and is considered to be a solid middle-of-the-pack QB. Fans in Buffalo are the same as fans here, if they don’ win every game then they are bums. Also, I repeat, none of the QBs coming out have proven they can play, much less succeed in the NFL.

I'm not sold on this train of thought, but when Dorsey took over in KC, he brought in Alex Smith, an adequate QB previous to that point, and built a winning team around him. We know Dorsey has had success following that plan. If he is thinking that Taylor is his new Smith, he may also be planning on using the first 2, and maybe even the first 4 picks, on players who don't play QB. Here are 2 links, the first every draft pick he made while GM of KC, the second every trade. https://247sports.com/nfl/cleveland-brow...Draft-112328382https://247sports.com/nfl/cleveland-brow...orsey-112330193We (the fans, the media, the rest of the football world) have been locked into the concept that the Browns must solve the QB problem through the draft (or a proven top QB like Cousins), that maybe we've missed the idea that Dorsey intends to follow the same plan he used to build the Chiefs. We've been debating about QB or Barkley at #1, Barkley or Fitz at #4, while he may be thinking about Nelson, Chubb, Ward, and even Barkley or Fitz with those first two picks. If he is thinking about drafting a QB, he could be thinking about Rudolph or Jackson at the top of the 2nd, or White at the bottom of the 2nd. I'm not saying this is what I think should happen, I'm saying this is what could happen based on how Dorsey built the Chiefs.

The dude has PEAKED as an Average if that QB. I'm PRAYING that Dorsey sees him as the QB to hold the fort down until Darnold or Rosen or even, and I CANNOT believe I'm going to say this word, Mayfield is ready. NO. SCRATCH that last name. I just can't do it.

If we're basing the next moves on straight up comparisons I would compare where Alex Smith was drafted to where Tyrod Taylor was drafted. Alex Smith was the first QB taken in the first round and Tyrod Taylor was the 11th QB taken. In the sixth round. I'm not saying a 6th round pick can't be successful but I don't think you can compare the two quarterbacks or use Dorsey's QB strategy at Kansas City as a model for what he might do here. He was brought into absolutely solve the quarterback problem and if he doesn't draft one in the first round he's probably signing ticket out of town. TT has bridge written all over him, I doubt Dorsey sees it any other way given the mandate. TT as the answer at starting QB is likely just a pipedream by those who want Saquon at #1. JMHO

What he did in the past, does not mean squat about what he will do in the future. Each situation is unique unto itself.
Taylor is a bridge QB only. He knows he needs to draft his franchise QB this year.
My guess is that if there were a QB worth selecting in his 1st draft for KC in 2013, he would have taken one over the LT. However, when Geno Smith is the first QB taken in that draft in the 2nd round by the Jets, well I think Dorsey could figure out QB was not the way to go.
He did the next best thing, draft a LT and swing a trade for Smith. Pretty smart in my estimation as they turned that team around in 1 season.
I don't think that the same or similar situation exists here this year as this draft has numerous potential franchise QBs.

I don't expect Taylor to be the next Tom Brady but he should help us win some games for a change. If we can put a good defense on the field along with a strong running game, Taylor may be hard to get off the field. Gotta stay positive.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Sure, and that's how we want it, but there has to be a viable starter/potential franchise QB sitting behind him or we're asking for disaster. TT is an excellent choice as a bridge QB but we'd be fools to pass on a QB for the future.
