Duke posted on Twitter:

"Question: Why can't we (RBs) get paid like a WR if our stats can back it up? Asking for a friend...."

So, to me, this sounds like they may be having trouble inking him to a new contract. He since backpedaled and said that everything was good on his end, and he was asking while looking at L. Bell, but I still have to wonder if he is wanting to be paid more than the Browns are offering. Time will tell. But I absolutely want to lock him up for the long haul!!!

I read on PFT he got 11.7 in guarantees too.

Should have minimal impact on Duke IMHO. McKinnion is being paid to be a starter, Duke will not be. I suspect he'll get between $15 and $20m for 4 years.

Duke is a starter in the NFL. Especially with the minimal wear on his tires.

Now that the draft is over, I hope we can pivot to taking care of this situation. I don't expect Hyde to be around for very long after Chubb was drafted. Pairing Duke and Chubb over the next several years is very intriguing, assuming of course Chubb pans out.

Yeah, I hope this gets worked out now too

No way they let Duke walk. He is a special player. With the additions we added on offense, he is going to have a great year. Tyrod, Duke and Landry are going to be tough to stop..

Now Why the heck whould they go and get rid of Carlos Hyde, They need to see what they have with all 3 Rb's

If the Browns want to win any games this old, cut anything you sign bull has got to stop!

They should Re sign Duke, Keep Hyde, and develop Chubb, and

anyone else they can get to help them out, they need them too!

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

You pound the defense with Hyde and Chubb, and run screens (and run them often) with Duke out of the backfield. They'll be so tired his quickness with make them dizzy.

I didn't say they are now going to get of Hyde. But I wouldn't be surprised if he is only here one year.

Duke is far too versatile to be called a mere 'third down' back. He's a vastly underused talent that needs to be on the field.

the new trend looks to be RBs who catch a lot of passes ... wanting to get paid like WR/RBs.

That won't fly with most teams

Man when there was a new post here, I thought there was an extension made lol.

We don't have many FA to resign, so resign Duke. Jamie Collins was one I wanted extended and that has already happened.

He deserves a nice raise, and we have lots of cap room. His agents and Dorsey need to get this done.

Hyde/Chubb/Johnson is the best backfield the Browns have had since 1995. Leroy Hoard, Lorenzo White, and Earnest Byner.

I am looking at NFL RB contracts, and I wonder where Duke slots in.

After the top 10 RB contracts, NFL RB contracts start to fall into a range of $3-$5 million/year.

Is Duke a better RB than Bell, Freeman, McCoy, McKinnon, Fournette, Lamar Miller, Elliot, Bernard, Hyde, or Murray?

If he's not, then he's probably going to fall into that $3-$5 million/year range.

He'll probably want a contract right in line with McKinnon who just signed in SF. Whatever that contract was

Jerick McKinnon signed a 4 year, $30,000,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including a $2,000,000 signing bonus, $15,700,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $7,500,000. In 2018, McKinnon will earn a base salary of $4,200,000, a signing bonus of $2,000,000, a roster bonus of $5,750,000 and a workout bonus of $50,000, while carrying a cap hit of $10,500,000 and a dead cap value of $11,700,000.

I don't know if I'd pay that.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yeah me either, but I can see Duke demanding close to that.

I also think the drafting of Chubb indicates that we're going to pay Duke. Chubb is not a good catcher or 3rd down back.

I'm not sure about Chubb catching the ball. I know he wasn't really asked to do that. I've seen backs who weren't asked to do it in college who, when put in that position in the pros had pretty good hands. I watched a lot more of Guice than I did Chubb. I certainly felt like Guice would have been a good candidate to catch the ball out of the backfield even though he wasn't asked to do so at LSU.

Maybe Chubb will be the same way?

Just repeating what plenty have said already. Duke needs to STAY.

If our front office is not already on board with that then hopefully a season of Duke with Todd Haley will convince them.

If Nick can catch thats just a bonus to me ...

I’d rather he can catch but if he isn’t good at it ... im OK with that ... hes a MASHER ...

Build that DOMINATE D ... with those weapons on O and our version of THUNDER and LIGHTNING ...

Were gonna be in GREAT SHAPE especially when we get the tackle positions figured out ...

I really like Nick ... GREAT KID and one hell of a POUNDER ...

We just gave Hyde $6M this year. D. Johnson is worth more than that and worth significant guaranteed money. He can play just about anywhere on the field.

Absolutely, he's a threat and a versatile one at that. Haley probably thinks of things for Duke when he's eating his morning pancakes. Pay the kid.

Duke is dynamic, plus, Hue loves him. Haley will probably love him too. He was our only weapon. I think they will sign him, and for a good bit of years.

I think Duke is playing wait and see with how this season goes unless an offer blows him out of the water.

Blow him away then. What we are with him is way less than without him IMO. Haley should have a variety of skillsets as he overhauls the offense. We will run it more, so Duke could get fat on this mix. Hyde could open up some stuff IMO. If he is happy here, find out what he needs reasonably. Lock up some quality, especially after last year's lousy handling.

He will be a FA after this season. Chances are, when a player's contract is up and he has not been signed before the start of the season, they usually test the market and our chances to retain him diminish greatly. The time to extend him is now.
