Chris Smith, a versatile down lineman. Played DE with Jaguars and Bengals. Moved to DT for the Bengals when needed last year in a pinch. Played well. Joins Cleveland defensive front. https://twitter.com/PSchrags/status/973652345870585857

Tom Pelissero ‏ Verified account @TomPelissero Following Following @TomPelissero More Tom Pelissero Retweeted Peter Schrager It's a 3-year, $14M deal for Chris Smith with the #Browns, source said. Betting the upside on a player with 7.5 career sacks.

Young rotational player, with upside. I think he'll be useful.

Joe Thomas has talked about having no "Middle class" on the team, this would appear to be one of those guys.

I would also add this:
We hired Dorsey, Highsmith, and McCloughan to evaluate and find players. This seems like the kind of guy they should search out.

Aditi Kinkhabwala Retweeted Peter Schrager Solid pass rusher, can rotate inside in passing situations and is hard to get hands on. He’s a high motor guy too. Fine pickup for a team who could use some experience.

Nassib and or Meader on the hot seat ? I'd say Nassib or Orchard. Factoring Carl started when Ogbah went down and Orchard was limited, it's probably Nate.

Cleveland Browns' 2018 free agency: Versatile Chris Smith provides DL depth - Cleveland Browns Blog- ESPN http://www.espn.com/blog/cleveland-brown...ovides-dl-depthA breakdown of the Cleveland Browns' 2018 free-agent signings. Chris Smith, defensive lineman The Browns agreed to sign defensive lineman Chris Smith, who played last season with the Cincinnati Bengals. Here's a closer look at the signing: Grade: C-plus. Smith fits in the Browns rotation of defensive linemen, and fits with defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' desire to find active tackles in the 4-3. He can play inside or out and had three sacks last season. He's a nice player and a hard worker, but he's always been used as a backup and last season was the first he played 16 games. What it means: The Browns need depth on the defensive front and Smith can play tackle or end. At 266 pounds, he's undersized to play the run, but can be effective in pass-rush packages. He seems to be improving, as he had career highs in games played (16), sacks (three) and tackles (17) in Cincinnati last season after being traded from Jacksonville. The Browns can use him inside or out, but with the trade of Danny Shelton, the Browns needed depth on the defensive front. Smith gives them that. The NFL Network reports that the Browns also will give Smith a three-year deal worth $14 million, which shows they feel good about him. What's the risk: Hard to see a huge risk here. Smith is a nice and improving player who can fit into defensive packages designed by Willliams. Aaron Donald he's not; the Browns are getting a guy who played about 30 percent of the Bengals' defensive snaps. This is a signing based on scouting and based on the belief that the Browns are getting an improving player with potential.

Orchard was amazing on college, but injuries have hampered his growth as a NFL player. As far as nassib goes ....I'm not sure this Chris Smith guy is better then him

I would have to agree that if anyone would be placed on the hot seat because of this move it would be Orchard. I'm not sure if Meder is still under contract but if so it could be him. He's more of the big body 3-4 type of player we are looking to move away from in the 4-3.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Nassib did one thing well (bat down passes). He managed to break up a few passes. Never a bad thing. Sacks would have been better.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Who over-rated those guys? I was hopeful about Nassib. Good motor, but a below average player IMO.

Like the player, don't like the contract. That is an awful lot of money for a part time player, he made $690,000 last year and were gonna pay him on average $4,666,666 a year for a guy who averages .214 sacks a game.
