Pederson: Nothing came 'down our way' for Nick Foles

The Philadelphia Eagles wanted a treasure chest if they were going to be tempted to trade away backup quarterback Nick Foles this offseason. Turns out, they didn't get an offer that even piqued their interest, let alone the first-round pick "at the very least" that they were seeking.

In speaking with NFL Network's Steve Wyche at the NFL Annual Meeting in Orlando on Saturday, Eagles coach Doug Pederson admitted nothing came his way with regard to a deal for the Super Bowl LII MVP.

"We did not," Pederson said when asked if the team got any interesting trade offers for Foles. "Nothing too crazy. It had to be the right deal for us to do that. But there wasn't anything coming down our way for Nick."

The plush free-agent quarterback market clearly hurt the Eagles' leverage in the situation, but Pederson spoke like a man Saturday who didn't want to do a deal regardless.

While the coach is confident Carson Wentz can return to MVP candidate form ("He's doing really well. He's ahead of schedule," Pederson said of the QB's recovery from knee surgery), the insurance Foles provides the team certainly sounds of greater value to the Eagles than the one or two premium draft picks they would have received to trade him.

"He's totally fine being that mentor, sort of in that backup role, helping Carson along the way," Pederson said of Foles. "That's who Nick is. That's who he is. And when called upon, he's going to perform, but he understands this is Carson's team and he's going to support him every way he can."

Why would any team offer them a first when they can wait a year and get him in the open market.

I guess there wasn’t a lot of bidders on Foles Gold.

Because they don't have to ghave t into a bidding war... I could potentially see him getting traded midyewr if wentz comes back and is solid... most likely he'll spend the year with the eagles though

Nick Foles - QB - Eagles

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said the team hasn't fielded any serious offers for Nick Foles.
"It had to be the right deal for us to do that," said Pederson during an appearance on NFL Network. "But there wasn't anything coming down our way for Nick." ESPN's Chris Mortensen previously reported that the Eagles were seeking greater compensation for Foles than they did for Sam Bradford when he was traded for first and fourth-rounders in 2016. Unless they're a blown away by an offer, it appears the Eagles will stand pat with Foles as the No. 2 to Carson Wentz. The reigning Super Bowl MVP will earn a modest $4 million in 2018.

A serious offer to them is a first round pick plus some. A serious offer from everyone else is nothing close to that I bet for someone like Foles. Yeah, he played good when needed for the SB and etc, but he's played a lot of bad football too.

They'll never trade him with the demands that are reported of being asked. Never... and quite frankly, I don't think they really want to trade him hence why their asking for crazy.

U think Phili just lets him walk next year? ... NO WAY ... they franchise him and work out a trade ... they lose a lot of their leverage .... right now they have it all ... and their asking for way more than hes worth ....as they should ...

I’m pretty sure they learned how important the back up QB position is last year .... add to that Wentz may not be ready to start the season .... he’s WORTH ALOT TO PHILI ...

Next year will be an entirely different story .... but i dont see them just letting him walk ... thats if he still wants to play football ... theres rumors he almost left the game to go into the ministry before signing with Phili ... they say he was only going to the right situation ... no clue how true that is or if last years success changed that ....

Well it looks like Giants owner Mara is over OBJ.

It would not surprise me if he was traded.

Landry is Beckham's buddy and texted him to come to Cleveland.

Honestly I have not followed this guy and the circus following him.

I know he is good but apparently the Giants are over the distractions and are tired of dealing with it.

I don't know if the Browns would have interest?

Seems like he wants more money and honestly I doubt he is worth the hassle.

At the same talent is talent.

I must be done with losing because a play maker as good as OBJ is something I've never seen as a Browns fan.

Ever.

I am 35 years old and I've NEVER seen someone even as close to as good as OBJ on the Browns. I trust even older guys haven't either. I don't care about circus, I bet anything if you polled every player in that locker room they would overwhelmingly back OBJ.

Meanwhile a lot of fans on this board would love to see us trade for Eli Apple who was called out by his teammates as being a cancer.

No offense, but I thought you were older than that. Same age here and graduated from OSU in '05. I see you're from Cbus, you go to OSU too?

And, at 35, I assume you saw Kellen Winslow Jr. (when he came back to the team like Paul Pierce came back to the Celtics in the 3rd quarter of game 6 against the Lakers in 2008). He was a phenomenal dynamic player at the time. A Cleveland Browns Legend in his own right

And didn't Gordan have the most yards receiving that one year with only 12 games beating out Megatron? (What year was that? 2013? 14?)

John Dorsey leaves everyone wondering what he and Dave Gettleman Discussed

Posted by Charean Williams on March 26, 2018, 3:37 PM EDT

Browns General Manager John Dorsey admits having coffee with his Giants’ counterpart, Dave Gettleman, but he won’t say what they discussed.

Could they have had discussions about Odell Beckham? About a swap of draft choices?

“Actually I had coffee with Dave this morning, but we really didn’t bring [a swap of draft choices] up,” Dorsey said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “Just talked. Asked how our summers were. How was your fall offseason?”

Dorsey was asked whether the Browns would investigate a trade for Beckham, who the Giants appear to be open to moving at the right price. The Browns already have Jarvis Landry, Corey Coleman and Josh Gordon at the position, but Cabot said “a trade for Beckham makes sense for many reasons for the Browns.”

Dorsey wasn’t giving anything away, though.

“Unfortunately I’ll say this again. He’s with another team, so I really can’t say anything about him. I can’t do it,” Dorsey said.

One year doesn't count. KW2 and JG both had one good season.

KW2 had one thousand yard year and never topped 5 TD's

JG had one good year and has been a disaster.

Prior to getting hurt last year Beckham had 3 straight seasons of at least 1,300 yards and at least 10TD's

I'm sure they were simply discussing fall fashions and the delayed coming season of Game of Thrones. OBJ who?

Eh, KW2 is still my guy. And that one year, he was awesome. 1000 yards and 5 TDs or whatever.

For whatever we're going to have to trade for this guy (plus then having to sign him to an insane contract) I just think it's a big risk. I've never liked the very high priced free agent receivers. Not diva ones like OBJ

I'm 61 and have seen a lot of WR's in our uniform as good or better than OBJ ... WR's: I never saw Dante Lavelli play but he is in the (HOF), but I saw these next guys who were really good WR's, Paul Warfield (HOF), Gary Collins, Dave Logan, Reggie Rucker, Webster Slaughter, Brian Brennan, Reggie Langhorne, Josh (Flash) Gordon, Ozzie (The Wizard of Oz) Newsome was a WR in a TE's body, and here are some that would be under OBJ IMO yet very good WR's: Gerald (Ice Cube) McNeil, Michael (Thriller) Jackson, Derrick Alexander, Kevin Johnson, Braylin Edwards ...

I was too young to understand how good Ozzie Newsome was. I can't speak to those guys before my time, but I would never put Michael Jackson, Kevin Johnson or Braylon Edwards int he same sentence as Odell. Those guys combined careers would surprise me if it matched OBJ's first 4.

I would not want to deal with OBJ on the Browns, I know JG has had his problems, and we don't need 2 distractions at the WR position ... JMHO

And when things don't go our way? With a young locker room like ours. With a lack of strong veteran leadership on the offensive end.

lol ok you have it your way I still don't think having OBJ will be a good thing despite his talents, first I would not give up 1 of our 1sts for him, listen to what John Mara said he is so frustrated with his antics he is ready to deal him ...

I think I am a little biased, to right a wrong in evals.

When I watched the film trying to evaluate what people saw in OBJ in college, all I came away with was…..I really like Jarvis Landry and Zach Mettenberg SUCKS!

I was very underwhelmed that while Landry was a first down machine Beckham wasn’t nearly as active as Landry. Holy crap was I wrong…..a classic case of projecting to the next level, Beckham is a nightmare.

BREAKING NEWS ... rofl ...

Cody Kessler - QB - Browns

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Browns are expected to shop 2016 third-round QB Cody Kessler.

This was the expected outcome after the Browns traded for Tyrod Taylor, signed Drew Stanton, and are expected to draft a quarterback No. 1 overall. Perhaps Cleveland can turn Kessler into a late-round, conditional pick. Kessler completed 65.6 percent of his throws with a
6-to-2 TD-to-INT ratio in eight starts as a rookie.

Can't say i'm surprised. He'll be shopped then cut.

Best of luck to the guy though

I agree with your rofl

So are they going to hang onto Hogan and see him in camp? Honestly, I thought Kessler was as good as gone BEFORE Stanton signed. IMO, Stanton is the replacement for Hogan... as Kessler was already a foregone conclusion.

Kessler?
Would that be the NFL-equivalent of bargain-bin or just free sample?
