Claiming that all proponents of gun control want to take away 2A is a false dilemma. There are many, many more options available to us. Heck, we already have several limitations on 2A rights without repeal of 2A:

- 1934 NFA (Requires tracking on several classes of firearm including machine gun (Rampant gang violence))
- 1968 GCA (Restricts sale to certain prohibited persons)
- 1986 FOPA (Ban on civilian ownership of machineguns made after 1986 except in certain situations)
- 1993 Brady Bill (Background checks on all purchases)

I think we should consider other options to restrict purchases by examining what qualifications work on prohibited persons and which ones don't. Background checks are good start, but do not catch first time offenders and is a reactionary system. Why not evaluate a proactive option where we require gun owners to demonstrate safety training, submit to mental wellness check, and renew this on a frequent basis? That's just one option available out of several.

I sometimes think it's actually in the GOPs interest to spearhead this research and discussion, to get ahead of the issue for one, and two because you know democrat options will be much more severe in the end. Just my 2c

Because Democrats are after freedoms not guns.

It has nothing to do with guns. It's the stupidity involved in the arguments. When those who support gun rights sound like stark raving idiots it does nothing to help the cause of gun rights. It only serves to hurt us.

The death rule?

Seems like you and others made the death rule when you decided there aren't enough students being killed in our schools to do anything about it.

Then go on stupid rants about knives and cars. lmao

Van strikes crowd in Muenster, Germany, killing 2, injuring 20 others -- live updates

BERLIN -- Authorities say a van crashed into a crowd Saturday outside a popular bar in the German city of Muenster, killing two people and injuring 20 others. The driver of the vehicle shot and killed himself after the crash, local police said. Six of the injured are listed in critical condition.

It's not yet clear who the suspect is or what the motive is. Police said they are examining reports that other suspects may have fled the crash scene.

The incident is being treated as terrorism, but the suspect's identification has not yet been transferred to the U.S., a U.S. intelligence source told CBS News...

Doesn't change the FACT that it was used to KILL.

Unless your point is the intended use makes it less wrong?

Just as wrong. Problem being you can't ban vehicles. Just like you can't ban guns. I'm just not sure what kind of tangent you are going on when you try to compare a mode of transportation to a firearm.

For some reason you see other people who uphold the second amendment as your enemy or adversary because we see these comparisons are ridiculous. Some of us would like to stick to the fact we have a second amendment right and quit trying to subvert the conversation to things that make us all look foolish.

I'm not comparing a mode of transportation to a firearm you are, I'm comparing one way of killing to another way of killing.

You seem to think making it harder to get guns will stop mass killings which I pointed out they will just use some other means to do it.

This is how liberals lead in Europe. This is also insight into how these geniuses will lead if guns are banned in the future in the US.

the overall homicide rate in Australia is down.

so knife attacks are up, yet the overall murder rate is down.

maybe it has something to do with having a higher rate of survival when attacked by a knife compared to a gun.

you guys continue to be your own worst enemy when it comes to the gun debate.

Then how do you explain why the homicide rate in this country is about half of what it was 30-40 years ago?

well according to this:

http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2013/05/0...e-crime-decline

there could be a bunch of reasons.

but as it relates to the actual discussion of my points, there was a clear cause and effect in Australia with their gun ownership and homicides.

After murder rate passes NYC, London Mayor Sadiq Khan calls for sharper knife control

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2018/04/09/london-mayor-knife-control/500328002/

Quote:
"No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife," Khan tweeted. "Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law."

There have been more than 50 homicides in London so far in 2018, and much of the violence is tied to gangs.

Guns are strictly regulated in the United Kingdom and the rising homicide rate in London is directly attributable to a rise in knife-related crimes, with stabbings claiming at least 31 lives to date in 2018. By contrast, New York β€” which has a population roughly the same size as London β€” has seen a steady decline in violent crime.

There were 15 murders committed in London in February and another 22 in March, while New York saw 14 murders in February and 21 in March, according to murder rate statistics provided to USA TODAY by London's Metropolitan Police and the New York Police Department.

In Britain, it is currently illegal to carry a knife longer than three inches in public "without good reason" and illegally carrying a knife can be punished with up to four years in prison and an "unlimited fine."

Self-defense is not listed among the examples of "good reasons to carry a knife." The courts determine if someone's reason to carry a knife is valid. Condoned examples of knife-carrying include if it is necessary for a person's work or if it is being brought to a gallery for exhibition.

Khan's tweet included a link to his plan to tackle the city's rising crime rates, including the creation of a 120-member violent crime task force and "targeted patrols" with expanded stop and search authority for "areas worst-affected by knife crime."

In February, the mayor launched a $63 million program to help keep young Londoners from "getting caught up in crime" and the Mayor's office has launched a "London Needs You Alive: Don't Carry a Knife" awareness campaign targeted at the city's teens.
