After reading this and seeing the ranking of our tackles?
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss...art_river_index
Coleman ranked 51st.
Hubbard - never been a starter ranked 40th.
Very little in depth after that. Drango really a guard. Stephenson - free agent backup.
Don't see how the Browns can feel great about the tackles.
Draft class looks a little weak at the position. McGlinchey, Connor Williams?
I am not a guy who is a great judge of tackles so I will leave it up to others as far as this draft class.
The Browns went after Nate Solder so there must be a perceived need there?
Seems like they will need help at the tackle position.

Hopefully McGlinchey or Connor Williams is available at 33/35 ...

Problem being if the top rated T's are rated as low as these guys are, they're projects at best.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Seems like they will need help at the tackle position. I played Oline. I coached Oline. We are never gonna replace Joe Thomas but thinking we are hurting at Tackle because he's gone is too "sky is falling" for me.
The oline is a unit. One man does not make the line. Joe or whomever. Give me a guy who's practiced with the rest of the guys over a FA, any day.
So let's get coleman, or the Rod Johnson (IR) in there at training camp and see what we got. Who's to say that one of those guys won't be as good as JT? They may not be now but there's nothing saying they won't rise to the challenge.
When you get the chance to start (and most of these guys didn't, especially at LT because of Joe), something else may open up in their hearts and minds. And hey, maybe JT will come back and give them some pointers.
But saying that "we are in trouble at Tackle" because of some grades, that's just garbage.
Can't guys improve from those scores? Can't a guy go from 51 to 20? Or 40 to 10? If you think guys will just stay put then cut them now. If you think they can improve, then let them play.
Last year is over. This is a new year. Let's see what happens.
Now that being said...you are always gonna need depth. We can draft it or we can get it from the waiver wire. Wanting depth is not a bad thing.

Only 2 project LTs for me - Brian O’’Neill and Geron Christian but they both need slow cooking IMHO

I think that one reason we signed TE Darren Fells is to be able to help the OL. He can stay in and block, chip and release, or just go out as a receiver. I think that he is going to play a lot this season.

I think Coleman is actually going to surprise many here. Hubbard at RT is I guess serviceable.
Drango actually is a LT just a mediocre to average one at best.
Not much in this draft - I thought there was a thread on this.
I think Conners is the best of the bunch but the bunch is not stellar.
There are some raw guys. I stated the kid from Western Mich. but that was in error as the sight I looked at noted his 40 time as 4.86 which I thought was incredible for a 320 pounder. As it turned out it was for one of his other tests not the 40...lol not that you look at 40 times to evaluate but when there is 320 at 4.86 that is very special and worth a chance...of course as stated not the case...lol
I did state a 7th rounder on Army Toth would be a good investment as he would be eligible to come to our training camp each year but be available full time after 2 years.
The kid has the best potential.
Just a shout out to a HOME BOY Timon Parris from Stonybrook. The best college game in Long Island, NY and they actually have talent not scouted much!

Well I'm going on his College tape.
I'm going on the fact that he's starting year 2 now after surgery.
I'm going on the fact that Joe Thomas seems rather impressed with him and is schooling him a bit.
But if you are stating he will fail and I will be surprised. No I will don't role that way. I will watch, evaluate and if posters are incorrect in their evaluations I will state so.
I was propping up Schwartz before anyone here was doing so. Actually I think its comical posters like him only after he leaves...lol
I was propping up Lava man and the guy has been mentioned for Pro Bowl and has had a starting NFL job without waiver since he left us.
OL actually is pretty easy to evaluate. Interior a little more difficult cause its hard to see the feet.
We haven't really had too much to prop over the years.
I remember what's his name Stokes from GB started a couple games at OG and then we brought him here for LT. I remember Diam and I watching warm up drills prior to our First Monday Night game doing some Ninja yoga crap...we actually laughed very hard. lol

College tape is fine, for college. More T's in college are moved inside than ever become starting T's in the NFL. I'm basing my opinion on all of the penalties he received playing an easier position...... in the NFL.

When I talk college tape, I'm talking about First Step, I'm talking about footwork. I'm talking about the LT being his comfort zone and him playing RT right after surgery for the first time. And obviously didn't show the same first step he did from the other side. Easier? Easier for who? Maybe not a kid who's success was at LT.
Drango played OG an easier position than LT and lo and behold he played much better at the most difficult position than the "EASIER" LG position.
So me thinks you don't really get it.
I will expound on this later in the training/camp preseason as I watch him play LT cause right now its college film and SPECULATION...this is true. But the speculation goes both ways.
I'm thinking Joe Thomas has earned his trust and I would like to see the kid actually play the position before I evaluate him.
I'll get back to you late August

Seems to me that moving from LT to RT would be similar to trying to learn to switch hit in baseball. Not easy and I would think Coleman would be much more comfortable and better playing the position he had in college.

it seems to me we need to give a rookie more than one season before we write him off. a lot of people thought Schwartz stunk after his rookie season. he worked into a pretty good tackle. let’s give Coleman a chance to develop. I am not at all certain there is a better option in the draft.

I am almost tempted to take a flyer on Orlando Brown if he's there with our 2nd 2nd round pick. He had a disastrous combine but that's shorts. He was a 1st round pick before that and looked like he would come off the board early-ish. He's a nasty, mauling bear of a guy who's size and length and production in college are worth taking a risk on. I do, however, think he projects to RT. A RT with pro bowl potential.

nice words but ignorance is bliss. I'm nowhere close to ignorant when it comes to OL talent. Never have been. I've also never let homerism get in the way of evaluating the browns roster. This is hilarious! The things you point to as his strengths are far more weaknesses. He lacks the lateral movement and footwork to play LT in the NFL. Once again, that's why most NCAA LT's never play the position in the NFL. It's why he may end up being a band aid this season but he's certainly not the answer. Drango played OG an easier position than LT and lo and behold he played much better at the most difficult position than the "EASIER" LG position.
So me thinks you don't really get it. Me thinks you need to quit taking cheap shots at people and then whine when you get treated the same. Drango did terrible. Without all the help and chip blocks used to help him, it would have been a disaster. You're the one who doesn't get it. So let me get this straight, an average NFL G or some RT who has as many penalties as games he played can just slide into the LT position? Yeah, that's why the position is so hard to man. It's why it's in such high demand and why they're paid so highly. Cause it's "just that easy!". And you claim i'm the one who doesn't get it? I'm the one who is ignorant? You need a mirror. lmao I will expound on this later in the training/camp preseason as I watch him play LT cause right now its college film and SPECULATION...this is true. But the speculation goes both ways. So now, after claiming someone else is ignorant, claiming someone doesn't get it...... You say you're only speculating? lmao I'm thinking Joe Thomas has earned his trust and I would like to see the kid actually play the position before I evaluate him. I'll get back to you late August In late August? You mean pre season? Like when we were 4-0 last year? When everyone was so excited when we face generic D schemes? Try late October. When teams actually game plan against us. Once they actually start exploiting our weaknesses. Once we see how he performs in real games. Pre season? Get that weak crap out of here. And I'm the one showing ignorance? lmao

You need to think again drobs. He'll be a G in the NFL.

You need to think again drobs. He'll be a G in the NFL. You don't think he can make it as a right tackle? I'm not convinced myself but he has all the traits to become a dominant OL.

I really felt he lacked the footwork and speed to play RT going into the combine. The combine only confirmed my thought on the matter. RT doesn't require the lateral movement that a LT possesses but having some ability to set those feet and having some quickness is still a key component.
His mauling style is far more conducive to playing G in the NFL. I do think he would make a good, mauling style G, but I just don't see his limitations giving him the skill set to be an effective RT.

I'm used to it. I've been around one form or the other of Dawg Talk/Dawg Talkers since 1999. People come, people go. I've never pimped RG3 and then tried to convince people I was great at evaluating QB's though.
