Hubble just spotted something massive coming out of Uranus

Bursts of solar winds caused a huge sparkling region on Uranus, scientists observed this by using Hubble space telescope. Electrons that come from various origins such as solar winds, the planetary ionosphere and moon volcanism, when charged in the form of streams caused this, researchers from the Paris Observatory used the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope to observe this on Uranus. They were able to catch it in powerful magnetic fields and, controlled it into the upper atmosphere, where set off spectacular bursts of light when made interactions with gas particles, such as oxygen or nitrogen.

Research have also been made in 2012 and 2014 on this. A team led by an astronomer from Paris Observatory took a second look at the auroras using the ultraviolet capabilities of the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) installed on Hubble. Two powerful bursts of solar wind traveling from the sun to Uranus caused the interplanetary shocks and these shocks are tracked by the Scientists by using Hubble.

They found themselves observing the most intense auroras ever seen on the planet.

They collected the first direct evidence that these powerful shimmering regions rotate with the planet, when they watched the auroras over time.

They also re-discovered Uranus’ long-lost magnetic poles, which were lost shortly after their discovery by Voyager 2 in 1986 due to uncertainties in measurements and the featureless planet surface.

I'm not surprised ... we had enchiladas last night

Cover Uranus...

Fears of catastrophe as runaway Chinese space station hurtles toward Earth

A Chinese space station will crash into Earth in a matter of months - and it could kill anyone who is standing beneath.

The 8.5-ton Tiangong-1, or “Heavenly Palace”, satellite is now out of control and is doomed to plunge into the atmosphere, a top academic has warned.

Love this quote from the article...

But a huge clump of metal could still rain down on unwitting victims.

He added: "There will be lumps of about 100 [kilograms] or so, still enough to give you a nasty wallop if it hit you.

100 kilograms, is over 200 lbs.. yea, I'm pretty sure a 200 lb piece of metal falling at that speed would do more than give you a nasty wallop..

Yes, that might smart.

I guess they can't track its trajectory because it is out of control, could hit anywhere.

I'm sure they will give us a heads-up when it gets close. willynilly

Uranus up close: Giant ice planet set to be its closest to Earth tonight and will be visible without a telescope

By Cheyenne Macdonald For Dailymail.com
18 October 2017

(EXCERPT) You might not need a telescope to spot Uranus tonight.

The ice giant planet will reach opposition on Thursday, bringing it to the closest point in its orbit to Earth.

In this position, the blue-green planet will be visible in the sky all night long – and, while you’ll definitely be able to see it with binoculars, NASA says Uranus may even be bright enough to see with the naked eye.

Uranus will appear a blue-green dot in the sky as it reaches opposition on October 19.

This means the icy planet and the sun will sit on opposite sides of Earth.

During this time, it will be visible in the constellation Pisces.

‘It’s visible all night long and its blue-green color is unmistakable,’ according to Jane Houston Jones from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

‘It may be bright enough to see with your naked eye – and for sure in binoculars.’

The view of Uranus is just one of many celestial phenomena that can be seen from the ground this month, including a meteor shower.

Saturn will make an appearance in just a few days, sitting above the moon on October 23rd, and below it on the 24th, according to NASA.

And on Friday October 20th, the Orionid meteor shower will reach its peak.

I gotta think it's unlikely to see Uranus with the naked eye.

I'm pretty sure man has studied the heavens very thoroughly for thousands of years.

Uranus wasn't known to exist until 1781.

Wait.

Just looked it up, it may have been spotted ~ 128 BC.

You know, wise men has been cataloging everything in the night sky since a long time.

Mysterious object from deep space has entered the solar system willynilly

It was first seen just a month ago. A tiny blip of light was seen to be moving through the sky by the PanSTARRS1 telescope in Hawaii.

The number-crunching which followed was automatic. The results were unusual.

This object is in an odd position. It’s moving very fast. And it’s in what appears to be a somewhat extreme orbit. Extreme enough not to actually be an orbit, in fact.

Observations published by the by the International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center (MPC) suggest it could have come from deep space.

Specifically, it could be a comet that has escaped another star.

“If further observations confirm the unusual nature of this orbit, this object may be the first clear case of an interstellar comet,” the MPC declares.

It's amazing.

This object is only 160 meters wide?

That's less than two football fields.

How can we possibly see this thing?

Scientists confirm Uranus smells like rotten eggs

Though thought to have small portions of hydrogen sulfide, recent studies reveal the planet is completely clouded by the chemical, making Uranus smell like rotten eggs.

Little did he know, but when Sir William Herschel announced its discovery on 13 March 1781, he sent us down a long and glorious path of butt jokes. Thank you.
