I like Ogun and Brantley. Both can slip in to the backfield.

Williams doesn't want a Bob Golic at DT

Golic bulked UP to 270 pounds to play NT, he was quick as hell, with great hands. He was draftd by the Patriots as a 240 pound linebacker.

Golic was strong, but he was a fireplug. He was a space eater, and took up 2 blockers on a regular basis. He was not the kind of quick, attacking aDT that Illiams wants.

on a related note, has anyone seen the recent pictures of Golic? he looks about 1/3 of the size he used to. Almost sickly. It's strange to see

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Golic could get after the QB, but according to Bob in his own words "“When I first got here, they said, ‘Your job is to occupy the center and both guards, to keep them away from the linebackers because they make more money than you do,’” Golic recalled several years later. “I asked them about tackles and they said, ‘You don’t have to make tackles. Just let people hit you.’” LOL

He had ballooned up to 385 pounds. He has since dropped 140 pounds and still weighs around 245.

I don't know how to link a picture, but there was a recent one taken of him at a Browns function. I'll try to find it.

The Cleveland Browns have signed QB Brogan Roback and DB Tigie Sankoh (pronounced tig-EE san-KOH). The Browns were assigned Sankoh through the NFL’s International Player Development program.

Roback is a 6-3, 215 pound rookie out of Eastern Michigan University. He started 34 of his 45 games at EMU and set school records for passing touchdowns (57) and yards of total offense (8,876), while finishing second in completions (745) and passing yards (8,653). He is a native of Maumee, Ohio and attended St. John’s Jesuit High School in Toledo.

Sankoh, 5-11, 214 pounds, played amateur football throughout his teenage years and attended the American Football Academy at Filton College in Bristol, England. He went on to represent the London Warriors in the British American Football League. Sankoh, a London native, will not count against the 90-man roster limit until final cut down.

The program, instituted in 2017, aims to provide international athletes the opportunity to compete at the NFL level, improve their skills, and ultimately earn a spot on an NFL roster. AFC North teams will carry an overseas player on their roster until the end of the 2018 training camp. At that time, the players would be eligible for an international player practice squad exemption. The Ravens, Bengals, Browns and Steelers will each be given an exemption for an 11th practice squad member – ineligible to be activated during the season.

If I remember correctly, he had gastric band surgery to help with his weight loss. He lost a ton of weight really fast. The body takes a while to have the skin catch up after that kind of rapid weight loss; your skin tends to look like it is just hanging or draped on your frame. In time, though, it resizes itself and you begin to look better.

Heh, when I went through my weight loss, I had people constantly asking me if I was Ok and when I said yes, they were like "no, really... are you healthy? Have you seen a Doc?". I must have looked like Hell, lol!

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Browns sign rookie LB DeMarquis Gates

Cleveland adds another linebacker as OTAs get started.

On Tuesday, the Cleveland Browns announced the signing of rookie LB DeMarquis Gates, an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi.

Gates (6-2, 230 lbs) was graded as the 51st-ranked linebacker by Dane Brugler of NFL Draft Scout. Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst had this to say about him:

Gates was one of the more proficient run-defending linebackers in the SEC but comes with a lack of size and an incomplete game. He could back up on the inside of a 3-4 alignment but must stand out on special teams.

Gates led his team in tackles for three straight seasons.

Subtext: "Do not overthink it." I liked him and his disruption. Not much of him left physically as far as size.

A good signing.

Led his team in tackles 3 straight year....Ability...Check

Played in the SEC....Quality of Competition...Check

As was said, probably more of an addition to possibly bolster the Special Team core. Since a large portion of the special teams are made up by backers and DB's, nothing wrong with giving him a chance.
