Just can't leave Tomlin out there more than twice through the lineup. That was the 15th HR in 31 innings off Josh by Castellanos.

Well Olson and Otero in and out, it's Miller time.
And it's still bad...

Bullpen from hell strikes again. Was an 8-3 lead, now 8-8. Miller gives it up. This team is unwatchable.

Tribe with the bases loaded, and they did not score. The Tigers leads 9-8.

Bullpen implodes again. Andrew Miller gave-up back-to-back doubles followed by three consecutive walks.
Nobody stepping up at the moment.

Carl Willis is a high quality pitching coach. I just don't know what to think though.

I hate to be tinfoil hat guy, but when I see the swings that average hitters are putting on some decent pitches by our guys, I wonder if our catcher's signs are being stolen. Even on 0-2 pitches, when you should own a guy, its like hitters know what's coming. I'm not talking about Tomlin - I mean pitchers like Kluber, Carrasco, Miller, and Allen.

Nobody stepping up at the moment. Miller had another poor showing. Like someone alluded to above, did we rush him back too soon? Our entire bullpen is in a deep slump.

Seems like last year Miller had that injury and struywhen he came back. Might just be his thing. Might be that we rushed him back last year too.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

Looking at the stats, Trevor is continuing to pitch good. We'll see if FSO replays this tonight sometime so I can see.

Predictions are for 94 degrees tomorrow in Houston. Maybe the Indians bats will heat-up. Big weekend series for Tribe.

The Tribe is in a weak division and can afford to play 500 ball for now.
But this team is going to have to make some changes. Guyer and Allen are not going to cut it. Raj is a part time player as well. Chisenhall has not been able to stay healthy and even when in the lineup he needs to be platooned against lefties. They may need to look at some other options at third. Move Ramirez to second. Play Gonzales at third or trade for a third baseman with some power.
Meija may need to be brought up to play outfield or if ready to catch then let him maybe platoon until he learns the pitching staff.
The bullpen needs to shake out. Who can be relied on for what role? Miller set up, Cody close. Find a lefty specialist and a good two inning guy who can pitch a lot maybe a good role for Tomlin.
As is; this team will go nowhere.

All of a sudden something's wrong with Meija.
He's currently only batting .185 (in AAA) with 32 SOs in 130 ABs.
I wonder if he'll recover. He needs to be at .300+.
He's got a sweet line-drive swing.

We are dead men walking unless bullpen can win us some games and we can manufacture some runs. We are not viable for the playoffs now IMO. Get some better arms.

I'd play Gonzalez at second and leave Ramirez at third. Kipnis to the OF could be a possibility. In limited action (34 ABs) Gonzalez is slashing .382/.417/.618. If nothing else, he's earned additional playing time over Kipnis who has been dreadful at the plate this year. Way too early in the season to make trades w/o having to give up an awful lot. You'd wipeout your young talent in the farm system.

They can play 500 till the All Star game. During that time they can look for options.
But changes will be needed.
Zimmerman has to show something at the plate.
There are way to many outs in the lineup.

We have a couple of problems as far as trying to make moves to help at the Major League level. As noted, Meija is not playing well. Naquin was playing well, before he got hurt. Miller got hurt, and is not playing well. His injury threw an already shaky bullpen into utter chaos. Tomlin is not getting the job done as the #5, Salazar is still trying to recover from whatever is wrong with his arm. Ryan Merritt, who I really like, has a sprained knee. Nick Goody is also hurt. Perhaps Cody Anderson might be ready to start getting some game action in the Minors, but he's a ways away. Most of our other top level pitchers are either young, or hurt. (or both) We don't have much help on the 40 man either. I am afraid that we will wind up having to make some trades to get the bullpen back on its feet. Man, it's weird. Bryan Shaw's ERA is almost a full run higher than last year. Joe Smith is having a rough start. Boone Logan is off the a rough start in Milwaukee. Carlos Santana is not hitting in Philly. Jay Bruce is down across the board with the Mets. We can't even say "If only we'd kept this guy, or that guy". The best thing would be for some of our guys to get healthy, and return to form.

I watch Houston and am so impressed with their roster. Their hitting, defense, pitching is incredible
Plus, they play so well at home

Depending on how the post-season games are scheduled, the Indians might conceivably be able to go to a 3-man rotation, which would help the bullpen quite a bit because it puts Tomlin in a long relief/extra innings/mop-up role and either Bauer or Clevinger in the short / set up role leading to Miller >> Allen. At worst, you can go to a 4-man rotation in the post season, which would be addition by the subtraction of Tomlin. Plus, I fully expect the Indians to take steps before the deadline to get help for the bullpen. There's some pretty good bullpen power arms out there with non-contenders like San Diego, Cinci, Miami, and the White Sox.
IMO, the Indians biggest issue right now is scoring runs. They have to either get Kipnis on track or replace him. Maybe the Mariners would be interested now that Cano is pretty much done for the year and maybe longer, due to the 80 game suspension for PEDs. Unless I'm mistaken, he has to serve those 80 games when he comes off the DL, which could be a while. We also should address the RF situation, but its not as big a hole as I thought, because Naquin was showing signs that things were finally clicking for him. I'm okay with less offense from Zimmer in CF because his defense is so good. If Zimmer could learn to lay down a bunt against the shift, be more selective at the plate to get some walks, and steal a base every chance he gets, he could become valuable offensively, or at least viable.

From the “Spring Training Don’t Count” department: Kipnis, Yonder Alonzo and Roberto Perez batted: .346, .375 & .326 this past spring training. With a total of 18 homers in 151 At Bats (about a 72 homer for a full season average) Of course most pitchers never go beyond MLB spring training.

I like how the Indians score 3 runs in the top of the first with their ace pitching and Indians fans (including me) are like:
"So what?"

Man, about 4:30, I went to the bathroom, and my curtain was moved just slightly apart in the middle, and I could see that it was just pouring out. I mean it was the literal cats and dogs. (and maybe a few elephants thrown in for good measure)
I just went in to take my 6pm medications, and it looks dry as a bone out there.

We're getting off topic here - BUT: I was at our boys baseball District finals game today.
Up 2-0, bottom of the 6th (other team - Eastwood) was at bat.
Got guys on 1st and second, by walks. 1 out. Coach makes a pitching change. Guy comes in Walks the first batter. Bases loaded. Gets a ground out. Walks another - 1 run scores. 2 outs.
Pitching change. As the next pitcher throws his warm up pitches, thunder. Instant 30 minute delay.
15 minutes later, thunder again (most fans were back in their cars by then, me included. It was raining so hard I even thought about leaving, but thought 'you wouldn't even be able to see driving if you left anyway.)
So, after about a 1 hour and 20 minute delay, add 10 minutes for the players to warm up again - back at it.
The newest pitcher for Archbold, warming up, is hitting the turf in front of the plate.
Remember, bases loaded, 2 outs. Up 1 run.
He gets a ground out. Threat over.
Archbold goes down 1 2 3 in the top of the 7th. Bottom of the 7th, K, K, high fly ball to shallow center. Short stop going out, center fielder coming in. Center fielder backs off too late, so he has to slide to not have a collision. Short makes an over the shoulder catch for the 3rd out. Ball game.
(it was even more special to beat THEM, as their girls softball team beat us, in similar fashion, in the sectional finals)
And then, on the way home from Defiance? Rained like a pig again.

Yikes, bullpen is imploding again. 5-3 Indians in the 8th, and Houston has a man in scoring position. Allen coming in. I don't like Allen pitching more than an inning, but I guess Andrew Miller has a sore back.

This bullpen is making me love Shaw more than I did last year. I would be happy to get him back, say for the stretch. Just atrocious losses. Our closers don't.
