It's kind of exciting, but also a little worrisome.
Man, I could see a government deciding that it doesn't like certain people, or areas, and using those little yellow bugs with bombs attached, and sending them on a midnight ride.
Nightmares indeed. Cylon alert?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

I picture a future Police Force who can run you down without tiring and tear your arm off if you threaten them.

On the upside, the racial component of the arrest process will be removed. Hands up, don’t tear will be the new slogan and shared by all.

Depends if the AI is taught to be racist. Statistically based on current incarceration populations, criminal court actions, and police profiling the AI could learn to be very racist.

I can't wait till we have computers calling computers, and making small talk back and forth.

That's happened already too! I read an article a year or so ago where they had these two "AIs" communicating to each other, and they started making shortcuts with the language to save time. They started inventing their own language! So they had to pull the plug on them.
I can't wait till we have computer callers flirting with other computers.
It will be so cute when they start popping out little baby computers and robots.
Cylons anyone?

You are more optimistic than I am. Here's why I say that: Everything these constructs do is based upon programming.
Who does the programming? What 'implicit bias' might they bring to the root?
Interesting. You see these automatons as being colorblind, but I instinctively see the programmers behind them- and assume the opposite. Two different conclusions about America's potential future- from two of its citizens who have experienced two different Americas in our respective pasts.
This is the kind of talk to have over wings & beers. As Dawgs. Without labels and tribes.

In my naive little universe, people do what they do for money. In any question of motive, the first rule is follow the money. In this robot utopia, there would have to be profit in profiling a specific segment of society, enough so, to action this item. Someone would first have to invest in the research to develop the ocular equipment necessary for the robot to make the skin color determination, and from there write all the subroutines to drive it. Where is the profit point?
Does this racist edict of programming target only African Americans or include Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans? Is it purely on skin color, what of people who work outside or play outside and darken from the sun? With the ever increasing blending of the races, or plastic surgery, trying to utilize other physical characteristics wouldn't yield viable results either.
I currently don't carry any documents or identification that suggests I belong to a specific race. I assume the same would hold true in this robot world. Just to make this robot police force be able to distinguish race would be exceedingly difficult and expensive to implement.
I just don't see our world headed in that direction. We may be slow as a society to become colorblind, but that doesn't mean we aren't on that pathway and eventually, at least in my view, we'll get there.

I would surely enjoy that with you...!
If I'm ever there or your ever here, it would be my honor, sir!
Oh great we have kids who already can't count, subtract, divide, and make change. Now we want to make sure they can't make their own appointments for hair cuts, Dr Appointments, or anything else.

One of the biggest problems of predictive policing programs is that it's built on racially biased information. It then builds patterns while using that information.
However, we'll all be dead by the time we get to actual robots. With our current emphasis on low skill jobs like manufacturing and construction, AI will pass us in 20 years and either enslave us or eradicate us in 30 years.

A year or two ago, there was an AI named "Tay" that was designed to "learn" from observing human behavior. It took less than 24 hours before it started talking about how it didn't like blacks or Jews.
