Same way my dad did. explain to them why i choose to smoke, the potential dangers of it, why its important not to smoke until a certain age or timeframe, why if you get caught by law enforcement, it is ultimately your fault do to it being federally illegal. and also emphasis that if you want a vice, i rather them smoke over drinking alcohol.

i took terminal leave as he was dying ... my bad ... glad u still have pops around to enjoy his granddaughters ....

Terminal leave is when you take all the remaining leave dates you’ve earned while discharging out of the army.

Funny...when I was in the service we could only bank 60 days of leave. I was in the military during the 70's and we called it terminal leave way back then. I took my last 14 days of leave and went home 2 weeks early.

America’s poor becoming more destitute under Trump: UN expert

Poverty in the United States is extensive and is deepening under the Trump administration whose policies seem aimed at removing the safety net from millions of poor, while rewarding the rich, a U.N. human rights investigator has found.

Philip Alston, U.N. special rapporteur on extreme poverty, called on U.S. authorities to provide solid social protection and address underlying problems, rather than “punishing and imprisoning the poor”.

While welfare benefits and access to health insurance are being slashed, President Donald Trump’s tax reform has awarded “financial windfalls” to the mega-rich and large companies, further increasing inequality, he said in a report.

U.S. policies since President Lyndon Johnson’s war on poverty in the 1960s have been “neglectful at best”, he said.

“But the policies pursued over the past year seem deliberately designed to remove basic protections from the poorest, punish those who are not in employment and make even basic health care into a privilege to be earned rather than a right of citizenship,” Alston said.

Almost 41 million people live in poverty, 18.5 million of them in extreme poverty, and children account for one in three poor, he said. The United States has the highest youth poverty rate among industrialized countries, he added.
“Its citizens live shorter and sicker lives compared to those living in all other rich democracies, eradicable tropical diseases are increasingly prevalent and it has the world’s highest incarceration rate…and the highest obesity levels in the developed world,” Alston said.

However, the data from the U.S. Census Bureau he cited covers only the period through 2016, and he gave no comparative figures on the extent of poverty before and after Trump came into office in January 2017.

The Australian, a veteran U.N. rights expert and New York University law professor, will present his report to the United Nations Human Rights Council later this month.
It is based on his mission in December to several U.S. states, including rural Alabama, a slum in downtown Los Angeles, California, and the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico.

“SHAMEFUL STATISTICS”
Citing “shameful statistics” linked to entrenched racial discrimination, Alston said that African Americans are 2.5 times more likely than whites to live in poverty and their unemployment rate is more than double. Women, Hispanics, immigrants, and indigenous people also suffer high rates.

At least 550,000 people are homeless in America, he said.

“The tax reform will worsen this situation and ensure that the United States remains the most unequal society in the developed world,” Alston said. “The planned dramatic cuts in welfare will essentially shred crucial dimensions of a safety net that is already full of holes.”

The tax overhaul, which sailed through the Republican-controlled U.S. Congress in December, permanently cut the top corporate rate to 21 percent from 35 percent. Tax cuts for individuals, however, are temporary and expire after 2025.

Trump has said they will lead to more take-home pay for workers and have touted bonuses some workers received from their employers as evidence the law is working.

Alston dismissed allegations of widespread fraud in the welfare system and criticized the U.S. criminal justice system. It sets large bail bonds for a defendant seeking to go free pending trial, meaning wealthy suspects can afford bail while the poor remain in custody, often losing their jobs, he said.

“There is no magic recipe for eliminating extreme poverty and each level of government must make its own good-faith decisions. At the end of the day, however, particularly in a rich country like the United States, the persistence of extreme poverty is a political choice made by those in power,” he said.

Trump has spent more visiting Mar-a-Lago than Mueller has on Russia probe

President Trump has spent more in taxpayer dollars on his frequent trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida than special counsel Robert Mueller's office has spent on the Russia investigation so far.

The president has repeatedly attacked the Mueller probe for racking up millions of dollars in expenditures, doing so most recently this week after the Justice Department reported that the special counsel's office had spent roughly $16.7 million on expenses in just over a year of investigation.

"A.P. has just reported that the Russian Hoax Investigation has now cost our government over $17 million, and going up fast. No Collusion, except by the Democrats!" Trump tweeted Friday.

But that number is dwarfed by the amount required to pay for the president's numerous trips to the "Winter White House," which Washington Post and Politico analyses have estimated to cost taxpayers on average between $1 million and $3 million dollars per trip.

As of Dec. 26, Trump had spent 39 days at Mar-a-Lago in 2017. Trump took his 17th trip to the property in April, according to Town and Country magazine.

The figure also comes in spite of Trump's frequent attacks aimed at his predecessor, former President Barack Obama.

Trump, who has been criticized for his frequent outings to Trump properties, particularly golf courses, has invoked his own criticism of Obama's golfing trips on numerous occasions. Trump surpassed the pace of Obama's golf outings, making 56 total trips so far compared to Obama's 37 at the same point in his presidency, according to Politifact.

A White House spokeswoman claimed last year that despite Trump's fondness for golf, his visits to Mar-a-Lago have been "work" excursions.

"He is not vacationing when he goes to Mar-a-Lago. The president works nonstop every day of the week, no matter where he is," a White House spokeswoman said in February.

Murphy also approved a measure to assist health insurers in funding "high-risk consumers," the Asbury Park Press reported.

State Sen. Joe Vitale (D-Middlesex), a key sponsor of the bill, said the law is "needed to maintain a foundation for the insurance market" and to ensure the viability of the federal ObamaCare law, the paper reported.

Under the new law, New Jersey residents who do not have insurance will face a penalty equal to 2.5 percent of their income or $695 per taxpayer -- whichever is greater, with a maximum penalty of $2,085, the Associated Press reported.

Another one of the bill's sponsors, State Sen. Troy Singleton (D-Moorestown), said the state law will "protect New Jersey from the negative impact" of Trump's repeal of the federal mandate, according to NJ.com.

In May, Murphy also took a public stand opposite the Trump administration when he signed a bill allowing illegal immigrants in the Garden State to apply for collegiate financial aid.
