It amazes me how many so called Browns fans on this board love to argue about anything related to the Browns. Baker is or at some point is going to be the QB of the Browns. Will some Browns fans root against him? To some it seems more important to win an argument than to get on board with the fact these players are playing for YOUR Browns and root for their success. Baker brings an attitude to the Browns along with leadership, something we have been lacking for way too long. I hope he becomes a great QB and leads us to many wins. Baker was not my first choice at QB but he now plays for my Browns and I will back him 100%. I have been away from this board since the draft but I can see nothing has changed. Same posters that seem to have nothing more to do than prove they are the smartest on the board, even if it means beating a dead horse over and over. Maybe all the years of losing has contributed to negativity of some posters or the need to prove your football knowledge while disproving others. Hopefully the Browns can become a championship team in the near future and maybe this board will become more positive. I have been a Browns fan since 1962 and I respect everyone's honest opinion but at some point let it go and get behind the team.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.
I go to sleep dreaming about one of our players planting a flag at the 50 yd line in Heinz Field after a Browns win.
Well you and I don't want the same thing. And if BM acts like a punk while he's a Brown I will be very pissed off and it will be hard to root for him. I want the team to win and leave the schoolboy immature stuff to a different team. Planting a flag in another team's logo doesn't make us better and it doesn't undo the 2 decades of loses and pathetic teams we have fielded. Planing a flag in another teams logo would actually just detract from any progress - and instead of having neutrals and the media rooting for the Browns, we'd be hated by most of the neutrals.
I suppose so. I want to win. Nothing more nothing less. Give me a super bowl title.
I will have to go back to the Landry threads and see your thoughts on him. There are a lot of people who seem ok with him grabbing his crotch but not ok with Mayfield grabbing his, and he did it in college.
Do you think Pittsburgh cares about the rape allegations of Big Ben? Do you think San Diego cared when Rivers flipped the bird to opposing team's bench? Do you think New York cares now that Eli was arrested prior to being drafted for the same reasons Baker was arrested for? Do you think New England cares that Gronk is a dance machine after hours? Do you think any franchise that had Deion Sanders cared that he was Primetime? Do you think Baltimore cared that Ray Lewis looked like a fool dancing when he came out of the tunnel before every game and was tried for murder?
No. Because they won.
Do you think Cleveland will care if Mayfield plants a Browns flag in the middle of Heinz Field the year after winning a Super Bowl for the Browns?
It's obvious you don't actually read the threads. EVERYONE has said they hope Mayfield has gotten past these things. Everyone I've seen post is rooting for the kid. The only issue between the fans is that some act as though his antics were fine before. They pretend or actually don't see his issues in college.
I saw my first Browns game in 1964. Now I'm not wishing for Mayfield to screw up. As a Browns fan I want the very best for my team. But those pretending that seeing him act like that as a Brown or seeing no problem with some of his past actions?
Yeah, I should just agree with them all and sing Kumbaya. Not so much....
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
I don’t get it either. To add... I can hate a player and still be a fan of the team. If I were a steeler fan I’d think Ben was a rapist creep, because he is, but I would still root for the team to win. I don’t have to ever like Baker’s personality to root for the Browns.

I can't say I am rooting for Baker. I don't like the guy. Never have. I'm not going to start liking a guy I don't like just because he is on the team I root for.
It's sports. It's not family or friends.
In fact, it's getting increasingly hard for me to even root for the Browns. This past draft was perhaps the most disappointing I can remember. This team exhausts me.

Didn't mean to be harsh, just tired of the constant whining, bickering and complaining. Can't read a thread without the same old arguments and complaining.

I respect your right to post your opinion. I have modified your post so to express mine. You should have no issue with that...

I am aware of some of the stupid Mayfield stuff pulled in college. I won't hang him in the village square for them. I also expect Baker will act like a pro now that he IS a pro.
I like his moxie, his confidence, and while I don't anticipate further transgressions on his part, if they happen I will be on his ass like other posters will be.
He's 23, supposedly the future of our franchise and it's time to grow up.

Then go away.
Good grief...

People whined for 2 years about getting a football guy in charge, well they got one and people still whine.
And haven't even seen them play yet!
I'd say our FO is well-stocked with quality "football guys" at this time. Time will tell as to whether it is an improvement although our record should be better. Too many variables for an apples-to-apples comparison..

We will just have to wait and see...Looking forward to competitive football games this season.
BEREA, Ohio -- Be it “The It Factor” or competitive spirit, there is just something about Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield that people gravitate toward and rally around, both on and off the football field.
Although Mayfield has yet to take a meaningful snap in the National Football League, his first-year teammates are excited about the prospects of playing alongside the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner.
“It is going to be crazy,” wide receiver Damion Ratley said. “I like the dude. I loved him in college. I love watching him. A good buddy of mine, (Jacksonville receiver) DeDe Westbrook played with him and threw him a lot of touchdown passes.
“I know that he is accurate, and that he can throw a fast guy a deep ball. I am always in favor of that. I love that he can scramble and make plays happen. I love to win, too. He has got that mentality, a winner’s mentality, and that he is going to put first before anything. That is what I think, too -- team and winning. I love to win and I know that he does, too, so I am going to love playing with him.”
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Mayfield put together a Heisman Trophy-winning campaign where he completed 285 of his 404 throws (70.5 percent) for 4,627 yards and 43 touchdowns against six interceptions to cap off a four-year career that started at Texas Tech University.
“He is an outstanding player,” running back Nick Chubb said. “He is able to make throws that you are not supposed to make, and you can tell that he is a very fierce competitor, which I love about him. I had been scouting him more than a week before we played him.
“I’m on offense, so if I’m hearing about how good of a player he is, he can pose an exceptional threat and (Georgia) Coach (Kirby) Smart was coming to the offense to tell us we need to score points because it is going to be hard stopping a guy like him. I am happy that we are on the same team.”
While Mayfield’s attitude boiled over into the planting of Oklahoma’s flag at the 50-yard line at Ohio Stadium after upsetting the Buckeyes last September to obscene gestures aimed at fans from the University of Kansas later in the season, his new teammates see him as the type of fiery leader that can lead the Browns to success.
“He was the face of that team,” Chubb said. “When he does that, they get all the momentum, the fans get involved, and it just helps the team out and picks the spirits up… If he does the same thing for the team we are on, it will be a good thing for everybody.”
Fellow first-round pick Denzel Ward played opposite Mayfield in Ohio State’s secondary, and while the flag planting happened on his home field, he is letting the past be just that in an effort to improve the fortunes of a Browns team with just two winning seasons and one playoff appearance since their return to the NFL in 1999.
“I definitely love and respect Baker Mayfield’s competitive nature,” Ward said. “I obviously did not like that planting of the flag at Ohio State, but we are on the same team now. We have got a new mission to accomplish.”

I find it interesting - and telling - that men who have actually played football with Mayfield all say the same thing about the guy. No one ever says that his emotions/demeanor/personality is over-the-top or in any way a bad thing or distraction to the team.
This comment from Chubb stood out to me regarding Mayfield's ability to make throws: "...“He is able to make throws that you are not supposed to make...". Obviously, I'm not 100% sure what all that comment entails...but coming from a fellow player, that comment bodes well for Mayfield's ability to make 'all the throws'. We've heard that before from strong-armed guys who flopped here... but none of those guys put up the numbers that Mayfield did in college and none were known for being so exceptionally accurate.
I've read this before...but...wow..."...he completed 285 of his 404 throws (70.5 percent) for 4,627 yards and 43 touchdowns against six interceptions..." Just...wow.
Do you think Cleveland will care if Mayfield plants a Browns flag in the middle of Heinz Field the year after winning a Super Bowl for the Browns?
Heck no.
Yes, I would care. It would just be stupid for a variety of reasons.. first, the Steelers could then plant 6 flags in Cleveland (not the amusement park)..
Make the rivalry great again by having 2 competitive teams who play meaningful games against each other.. not childish crap like that. That flag planting isn't NFL, it shouldn't even be college.. that's the kind of stuff high school kids do. (it's wrong for them too but it seems like something a 17 year old would do to impress his girlfriend)...
Don't twist it on me... There's a lot of guys here who wanted Jarvis Landry who is also a privates grabber then you have those same people saying they don't want Baker for the same reasons. Hypocrite much?
And I wouldn't say Mayfield's behavior is classless. I think he's far more classy than most players already in the league. He breeds class...
I don't make the rules, but the point is that if you win...
Didn't mean to be harsh, just tired of the constant whining, bickering and complaining. Can't read a thread without the same old arguments and complaining.

First of all I apologize for the comment. In my head at the time I was just thinking about all the complaining I just read thru a bunch of different threads. When I read yours, I didn't even look at it as if to be saying it specifically to you, although it clearly appears that way. Sometimes I read thru this stuff and don't even look to see who's talking, basically because every conversation turns into the same thing.
And again I apologize. But I do have to laugh, since your reply was said in jest, it kind of hit me the way I thought it would hit others when I said it at the time.
We just need some wins, so we all quit going after each other, and can be happy for a change.
It's cool, man. You're a good dude. And you are right........we're all frustrated w/the losing. I think it's pretty obvious my initial comment was born out of frustration.

I googled the incident...and it was in that article. I think it was Florida? They had complained about TCU running through their pre game workout. Not going to bother looking it up again...did I link an article? cause its not like spent time. It was the first one that had the incident.
yeah I just skimmed through I know it had that fuzzy video of the warm up....but I don't see that. I know the TCU HC has denied that they ever ran through a warm up. All I know is I read it. how accurate was the claim, don't know. I don't make stuff up. I don't think its that important anyways. I know people laughed in that video once it was done. and they guy just kept on running as if nothing happened.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
eotab... It comes down to personality type. I don’t like his personality type. He’s a jock. He acts like a jock. He can be a great QB. I hope he is. I just don’t care for his personality. You can. I’m fine with that. As I’ve stated I don’t ever have to like him to continue to root for the Browns. I think Pit and Vers feel the same.
Portland I stayed away from criticizing you cause I know you aren't an agenda poster. But I think you simply are misguiding by the negative media on the kid.
If follow up on him closely he is a very good kid he does a lot for the community and young kids he just doesn't broadcast it as a politician would. So all you have seen is these negatives but not the entire story of these incidents and also unrelated good things that now a days don't get reported cause it seems all these bad things is what gets the click...the good stuff gets an Awwww and then all move on and there is no controversy. He ain't rich he doesn't have a publicist. But the kid is genuinely good and you not being an agenda type of guy once you learn who Mayfield really is.
1. you won't be worried anymore. 2. You will actually like the kid!

Well I’ll say this. I’m done learning about any of our players from more than an on field film perspective. I don’t care about their backgrounds. Their family life. What number they’re choosing and why. But especially what they have to say. I just don’t care. Either produce on the field or be gone. Who cares beyond that. I’m emotionally over ‘players’ as individuals. As I am the coaches and front office. It’s why I’m not falling for the Hard Knocks nonsense. Shut up and win. Anything short of that is just another open mouth pouring out crap.
That said. If we start winning I might start being interested in the players themselves. At least the ones producing. To Baker. I don’t know him personally obviously. So I can only say what I see on the field. On the field he played well within his offense. He won in college. He’s accurate to open windows. My hope is he can learn the pro game. But... I hate his antics. His wild running around with his arms flailing after throwing TDs. I hate his jock like behavior of flipping the bird, crotch grabbing, flag planting, etc. I’ll never like such stuff. Ever. The good thing is I don’t have to. If he wins then I’ll cheer for my Browns. If he loses I’ll cheer for the Browns. Whoever is stuffed into the QB jersey next won’t matter to me anymore than he does now.
