I'm not so sure he couldn't. Lot of things happen that make no sense to me. Friedman was given another short term contract while Druzzi and Coleman did not. Friedman was also well liked by Urlacher who commented that he couldn't believe the Bears would trade him. I don't think he is a starter in this league but he should be able to step in for Steinbach in the preseason without getting someone killed.
