Man, the Peru/Denmark game was exciting. Back and forth the whole game - poor Peru just couldn't get the ball in the net.

In the NFL? How many times do you see a kicker or punter act like a sniper just took out their knee or a QB pretend he got hit in the head?
The flop equivalent in the NFL is the phantom pass interference. How many times does one see a team behind and then their QB chucks it downfield in hope to get that call just to move the ball? I see Brady do it a lot, but he isn't the only one. That's more on the league than the players. It is annoying to see an offense bailed out because the corner didn't turn his head and bumped into the WR, even though the ball was uncatchable. I think players flop in just about all sports, but the rate of flopping in soccer is downright embarrassing. No other sport comes close with that garbage.

I'd argue it's how they flop that's bad for soccer. While watching the Peru v. Denmark match, a defender swiped a guys leg out in the box and was later called a penalty kick, and it was. Thing is, the offensive guy was screaming in agony before he hit the ground and then rolled around as if he was stabbed with a rusty spork. As long as replay exists, the ref will get it right, you don't have to sell it. Hell, he didn't just "sell it", he mortgaged his whole life on that play. I would have preferred the ref said two things as he came back on the field: 1. Penalty Kick 2. Yellow card for embellishment Done.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”

You definitely see this in the NBA. Those who don't like LeBron call him guilty of this. I have heard the LBJ criticism since living on the west coast. However, if he were never on the Cavs and had no history with Cleveland...we probably would talk about it too. That said, he did have a bloody eye from being poked in the face by Green. So, some hits and reactions are legit. But, you definitely see NBA players go down like they have been taken out by a sniper in order to get the foul call.

I've seen way too many guys take a supposed whack in the ankle and then role around holding their knee. There are some real good actors out there. Granted sometimes there are legitimate collisions.

My favorite is when they get bumped and do a barrel roll for about 3 or 4 feet while holding their knee.

Thing is, the offensive guy was screaming in agony before he hit the ground and then rolled around as if he was stabbed with a rusty spork. That's exactly what the problem is. Going down with little to no contact is one thing. Pretending that your leg got ripped off is just embarrassing. In the NBA, players will sell contact, but at least they don't act like they are dying, only to come back 2 minutes later. As long as replay exists, the ref will get it right, you don't have to sell it. Hell, he didn't just "sell it", he mortgaged his whole life on that play.

Done. Can't "like" this enough. This is exactly what they should do, if not just give guys a straight red card for the really pathetic flopping attempts. I argued maybe 8 years ago that they should be doing something like this with replay. Guys would go down, roll around like they we dropped with an axe, both teams would yell and shout at the referee for 3 minutes while he tried to decide if it was a legitimate foul, and he'd eventually produce a yellow card. In half that time, they could of had some guy in the booth take a look at it, let the ref know if it was a legit foul or a flop, and then have the ref give out cards if needed. They should probably just give anyone who flops a straight red, and we could get that crap out of the sport pretty quickly.

English Premier League really cracked down on embellishments this past year. Announcers called out offenders and really torched them!

Lebron gets hacked so much, that'd I'd probably complain a lot and embellish too... Meanwhile, Steph Curry gets calls if someone goes near him. Guess it pays to be a weiner.

Germany v. Mexico (Sunday 11 am EST) How will I know which one is Germany? Since they're the country that's so permissive of immigration that many think we should be modelling ourselves after, I'm going to guess it's the team with the most ethnic diversity.

Germany look humiliated. Congrats to Mexico. Wow!
Watching these games it really does show you just how far behind MLS and the American National team are to the rest of the world.

Yeah, they certainly parked the autobus. Made for some intense play. That one German guy almost had a spectacular goal with about 2 minutes left, but it bounced off the wrong side of the pole.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I think this is just going to light the Germans fire in the end. They are not done yet. Nobody thinks Germany are done. They are top 2 (going into this WC the reigning champs). They wont roll over. But, as an England supporter I like seeing the Germans humbled (sorry Swish!).

Tough to recover from a loss. A draw maybe. Rough road for the Germans.

Tough to recover from a loss. A draw maybe. Rough road for the Germans. Sweden, SK are in their group. I would expect they will get through to the next round. They lost a handful of their big name stars, and replaced them with some young talent. But, they have an incredible youth development program in their country so, they should be ok. The entire world would be shocked if they don't make it out of their group stage.

All of the favorites are underperforming thus far. Wonder if that trend holds true with Brazil vs. Switzerland?
Brazil on the attacking end early but still 0-0 18 minutes in.
EDIT: Nevermind...
Wow what a goal from Brazil. 1-0. Second best goal of the tournament so far.

Brazil's defending on set pieces is as bad as the Cavs rim protection.

No kiddin'. DC & Swoosh gotta be happy. I'm ecstatic.. for me this is like March Madness.. I root for my team if they are in (which we are not).. so in the absence of a team to root for, I'm rooting for chaos.. Chaos for me is a country (Iceland) 1/3rd the size of Rhode Island competing against the best in world (while we sit home).. I'd love to see a team from Africa make the final 4.. has never happened. In the history of the WC, Africa has only had a team in the final 8 three times, each lost. Collectively, their teams are getting better and more competitive with each WC, it's bound to happen, why not now.. My ideal Final 4 would be Iceland, Senegal, and then 2 of the bigger name teams...

A very rich clown. The highest paid sports player in the world. 90+million last year alone. Not sure how the Parisian fans afforded their tickets. They had to have been pricey.

The Belgium National Team are absolutely stacked. Even their bench are full of Prem players. On paper they look like they should be finalists.
