Myles wrote a poem. No problem. Then he posted it to twitter. I wouldn't have done that. It's too personal, it just opens him up to a lot of questions. It will likely become a distraction. It won't be resolved by the opening of training camp. I can't see what he gains from this.

I don't see how this benefits him, the public reveal of this very emotional, personal love poem, it just makes him a media target.

This isn't a big deal, but I do hope he's a better football player than poet. If not, we are totally screwed.

There is nothing wrong with an athlete having other interest than their sport, especially if it is an artistic expression. If he opens it up to the public, so be it... he intended to do so. He knows what comes with it.

If he can’t sack the qb, I’ll be concerned. Otherwise, I really don’t care.

I already had the impression that Myles was a multi faceted guy. This isn't an earth shattering event. What it is, is a self made media commotion coming at a time when football should be the only subject on the table. To me its bad timing and bad judgement.

Everything gets blown up or distorted in the media these days. Why invite that?

His warrior poetry has been apart of his sports narrative since he was at A&M. He always said that Muhammed Ali was a big influence on him there.

I'm sure I said in the OP, writing poetry, no problem. I also clearly said that making it public, inviting the media to probe into the who and why of the subject is unnecessary.

There is a distinction in having an interest and exposing yourself to needless scrutiny. That's were the self made risks of distraction arises.

You're trying to create an issue that simply doesn't exist.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Probably not the first NFL player to write poetry. Rumor has it Lawrence Phillips wrote the following poem under his nom de plume, Tyrone Greene:

Images by Tyrone Greene

Dark and lonely on the summer night.
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
Watchdog barking - Do he bite?
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
Slip in his window,
Break his neck!
Then his house
I start to wreck!
Got no reason --
What the heck!
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
C-I-L-L ...
My land - lord ...

I certainly hope it doesn't become an issue. But if it becomes an issue Myles has no one to blame but Myles.

I think you'd be surprised at the talents that players have that aren't usually seen in public.

I can't find anything wrong with this.

I realize that player's have interest outside of football it seems ridiculous to have to state the obvious. Writing poetry, in and of itself is not an issue. Any interest, including writing, deeply personal, intimate poetry and putting it in the public domain where it can be manipulated, misinterpreted, distorted or sensationalized...that is a risk, regardless of the medium of expression.

It's clear other posters don't share my point-of-view. I'm unmoved by that. I'm a Garrett fan and I hope this doesn't affect him and unintentionally affect the team. Still, my opinion is this was a bad decision.

What's the worst thing that could happen? An OT memorizes Garrett's poetry and starts repeating it to him in game? It teaches Barstool Sport's how to read? What exactly are you worried about?

You're asking so I'll respond.

When I write something it's not that convoluted, obscure, or complex. At the start of this thread I said plainly why I thought this had the potential to put him at risks. I repeated it in almost every post I've made since.

For the final time, it's not the poetry. Its the exposure of private and personal emotions that could become the subject of media scrutiny. Wouldn't even have to be sports media. Could be some tabloid trash, some internet gossip type treatment designed to sensationalize. None of which is possible if Myles doesn't tweet. Maybe it won't happen, maybe it will. Maybe it'll pop up as his stature in the league grows.

Whoever the subject of his emoting was if I had those feelings I would have DM'd that person. I wouldn't be blasting it out for the social media universe. There are countless examples of people putting things on social media casually that take on a life of there own. Can't happen if you use discretion.

I got your point the first time.

I don't think people will care about the poem. The only attention it's getting as far as I know is in this thread.

Not even MKC has mentioned it. wink

If Mayfield had written poetry, she’d be all over it like maggots on roadkill.
