I'm going this year. Haven't gone since Derek Anderson was here. Always took my son. Hope I can meet some of the board there.

I live 586 miles from my drive to my usual hotel in Berea when I come up for my 6 games. That is pretty far for games. It's way far to watch training camp.

I'd like to go to a camp. I have been to the Indians spring training when they were in Winter Haven. It was a blast.

Just to much investment of time and money to watch a few hours of drills.

With the Indians it was a day of training camp, then we watced some games. Against the Dodgers in Winter Haven, then the Tigers in Lakeland, and the Reds in Tampa.

It was a spring break vacation with my youngest. I have a really cool autographed BB from that trip. First, Bob Feller was around and he got the sweet spot. Then got Orel Hersheiser, Kenny Lofton, and Jim Thome. Jim didn't sign much.

I don't collect stuff to sell, but with 2 HOF'ers and 2 players who were pretty darn good, that's a collectable.

Cool story here. When in Winter Haven for the game, the announcer came on the PA and said "Warming Up" in the bullpen was #19, Bob Feller. Bob had his uni on and was playing toss with some bullpen catcher. The thing that got me was the entire Dodgers team stopped, got up on the top step of the dugout and watched. I wish I gotten a picture, it was pretty awesome.

Winter Haven was a great time when the Indians trained there. My wife and I went every year the Indians were there, except for 2 years when one of us had surgery. We stayed at the Days Inn, about 500 yards from Chain O' Lakes Stadium, and there were these old timers from Boston there every year, always playing poker, drinking, and smoking cigars at a table near the hotel pool. The Red Sox had trained there for decades before moving to Fort Myers, but these guys kept coming to Winter Haven anyway. When I saw players out and about I would tend to leave them alone - I don't do autographs - but my wife, Debbie would walk up to anyone and start talking to them. Because of that, we met Omar Vizquel, Carlos Baerga, Albert Belle, Jim Thome, Sandy Alomar, as well as local media types like former PD writer Russ Schneider, and radio talker, Mike Trivissonno. I do miss our annual trip to the Haven.

I don't bug anybody when out. All of this was at the stadiums. I wouldn't go up to guys at Beef O'Bradys, about the only place to hang, and seek autographs.

I agree. I know the Tribe has deep roots in Arizona, but I really enjoyed the Winter Haven years. It was a easy trip from Tennessee.

when I was younger I would live for autographs at training camp ... When I was in about 9th grade I "sorta" knew Jamel White (remember him?)

Anyways, he invited my friend and I into the locker room to get autographs/pictures. I cherish that memory.

I always go up and spend some time with friends who work for the Browns during camp. This year looks like a no go for me frown Having another surgery on the 25th and I won't be able to drive till camp is over. I hate missing time at camp, and hate missing time with friends even more.

I don't think I'll be making it either.

I have 4 collapsed discs and 2 badly arthritic facets in my back, as well as narrowing of the spinal cord "tunnel".

I am going to have 4 rounds of epidurals, 2 series of facet blocks, and see what that all does. crazy

If this doesn't work, it's rip my back open full on surgery.

As someone who works for a spine med device company, fusion procedures are gnarly, but not as gnarly as they used to be. Just make sure your surgeon has done/does a lot of those procedures.

My surgeon wants to start with epidurals and facet blocks, and if those don't help, then we move on to other alternatives.

And cheap whiskey!

Holistic healing for watching theBrowns! Seriously hope it goes as well as possible for you.

Not to pry, but I never heard of a facet block. Only for pain? Don't answer if this is getting into "stuff" in any way, please.

Just wanted to share our experiences at Steelers training camp in Latrobe PA when Edwin was 9 years old.

The Steelers held a special free skills camp for the kids. Mostly run by the Latrobe High School football players and coaches, but a couple of Steelers attended. After the skills camp the kids got to get autographs from the Steelers. Edwin got almost 40 autographs on a football we purchased for the occasion. Then Dan Rooney spoke to all of the kids for about 15 minutes, encouraging them to do well at school and that one day they might be Pittsburgh Steelers. Just an amazing day.

Sounds like torture and indoctrination bordering on child abuse...raising a poor child as a Steeler fan. wink
