...I'm trying to remain optimistic here. This sort of feels different than past suspensions, but also sort of the same.
Hopefully it all works itself out and JG isn't suspended again because that'd really take the air out of the sails.

Updated: #Browns Josh Gordon more details here: League can't say if he failed a drug test, not currently suspended, left Berea recently and will focus on his treatment plan wherever he is, no timetable for return https://twitter.com/MaryKayCabot/status/1021403784675721216

Browns top rookies Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward remain unsigned Cleveland Browns rookies Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward are two of seven NFL rookies yet to have signed their rookie contracts. By Michael Hoag@BrownsBeat Jul 23, 2018, 7:30am EDT Cleveland Browns rookies Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward are two of seven NFL rookies yet to have signed their rookie contracts. The Browns and their prized pair of top 4 picks are running out of time to avoid holdouts as the team will begin mandatory training camp practices this Thursday. Rookies and veterans are all required to report to Berea on Wednesday. On Sunday, notable remaining unsigned rookies Saquon Barkley and Mike McGlinchey inked their deals, both including large signing bonuses. In fact, Barkley’s four-year deal is worth $31.2 million with $20 million guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. That makes him the fourth-highest paid running back in the NFL before he ever plays a snap. As WGN Radio’s Adam Hoge pointed out, to this point only rookie linebacker Roquan Smith’s delay is costing his team the rookie’s presence at training camp. Adam Hoge ✔ @AdamHoge With Saquon Barkley and Mike McGlinchey signing contracts today, Roquan Smith is now 1 of 7 unsigned NFL draft picks. Five of those are top 8 picks. Smith is the only one who is supposed to be in camp right now, and his holdout is about to reach one week in length. #Bears 12:13 AM - Jul 23, 2018 Here’s a list of the seven remaining rookies have yet to sign: Browns, QB, Baker Mayfield (Pick No. 1) Jets, QB, Sam Darnold (Pick No. 3) Browns, CB, Denzel Ward (Pick No. 4) Bills, QB, Josh Allen (Pick No. 7) Bears, LB, Roquan Smith (Pick No. 9) Steelers, S, Terrell Edmunds (Pick No. 28) 49ers, WR, Dante Pettis (Pick No. 44) These kinds of contract disputes rarely linger long enough to end up affecting players’ chances to participate in camps, let alone risk them missing any game action. Rookie contracts in the NFL are already “slotted” and pre-determined by the NFL rookie scale, so the main hiccups to these deals are usually related to offset language and signing bonus pay timing. Offset language refers to conditional contractual terms relating to players retaining their guaranteed rookie salary, even if released, along with any salary they obtain from another team following their release. It usually comes into play when a player is injured or released in the fourth year of their rookie deal, one year before a team must choose whether to pick up the player’s fifth-year team option. Offset language helps teams release players without them being allowed to “double dip,” so to speak. Several rookies chose to forego hiring an agent this year, which seems to be a growing trend given the cookie-cutter NFL rookie salary negotiation process. You can bet Mayfield and Ward’s agents are working extra hard to prove their worth by getting the most out of the Browns prior to their clients signing on the dotted line. There’s no need for concern, yet, but there may be some upcoming discussions we’ll need to have in the coming days if these two star rookies remain unsigned as Wednesday draws closer. https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2018/7/23/...remain-unsigned

Makes one wonder about the impact this may have on Calloway. Also whether he was involved (if it is to do with drugs) or was the initiator....

It's a little annoying that Baker and Ward aren't signed yet ... I mean, it's slotted and they've had like 3 months

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/patri...lcolm-mitchell/Malcolm Mitchell a possibility? Probably would cost a 7th round pick

It's a little annoying that Baker and Ward aren't signed yet ... I mean, it's slotted and they've had like 3 months I thought there was a long thread in the Draft forum that was entitled something like: "Baker Mayfield Signs His Contract." Did someone just make that up?

From memory, someone started a thread under the mistaken impression that an article discussing a likely contract was announcing a contract. About the 3rd or 4th post in, the poster admitted his mistake but was unable to delete the thread.

Thanks. I thought that was a big thread, but I didn't really follow it.
With the new language for rookie contracts, I haven't worried too much about guys getting signed.

Off-set language is likely a hold up for the top part of the draft.

Browns hosting CB Bashaud Breeland on Friday, WR Eli Rogers and CB Jude Adjei-Barimah today for free agent visits CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Redskins cornerback Brashaud Breeland will make a free agent visit to the Browns on Friday, the second day of training camp, a league source confirmed. Rob Demosky of ESPN.com first reported the visit. Breeland has visited the Raiders and Chiefs, and is also set to visit the Colts. The Browns are also hosting former Steelers receiver Eli Rogers today, as previously reported, and former Bucs corner Jude Adjei-Barimah's previously reported workout is also today, a source confirmed. The Browns had interest in Breeland in free agency in March, but he signed a three-year deal with the Panthers worth $24 million, including $11 million guaranteed. However, the contract was voided when Breeland, 26, cut his heel in the Dominican Republic in a collision with a golf cart, and the wound required a skin graft. It became infected, and he failed the Panthers physical. By that time, the Browns had moved on and signed free agents such as T.J. Carrie, E.J. Gaines and Terrance Mitchell. But it's clear the Browns are still in the market for good cornerbacks. Earlier this month, they bid on Western Michigan's Sam Beal in the supplemental draft, but he was selected by the Giants in the third round, one spot ahead of where the Browns may have landed him. Breeland, a fourth-round pick of the Redskins out of Clemson, started 58 of 60 games in Washington, recording 211 tackles, seven forced fumbles and eight interceptions. No. 4 overall pick Denzel Ward will start right away at one of the cornerback spots, but the other job is still up for grabs. The Browns are also hosting free agent receiver Rogers for a free agent visit today, one day after Josh Gordon announced on Twitter that he won't be with the team at the start of training camp to focus on his health and treatment plan. Rogers, 25, spent the past three seasons with the Steelers, where he played for current Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Rogers, who suffered a torn ACL in the playoff loss to the Jaguars, knows the system well and can step right in and play. https://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2018/07/bashaud_breeland_visiting_the.html

It was a big thread, full of arguments about Mayfield. I found the post (#1449216) where the poster admitted his mistake, it was actually on the 2nd page of posts. By then the thread had a life of it's own.

I like Breeland too, maybe he's not healthy (or wasn't) and teams didn't sign him.
I'd give him a shot.

He had some kind of foot injury (slice wound) that made teams nervous.

He had some kind of foot injury (slice wound) that made teams nervous. + a subsequent infection on said cut/injury. He must not be a go, if he's still unsigned. Didn't that injury and the subsequent contract void happen a little while ago?
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Seems ridiculous to not have everyone signed by camp in the modern NFL but what do I know?
WARD is the one that I am most concerned about right now. Wrap it up! He's supposed to be starting day 1.

My understanding was he cut his foot, the wound became infected leading to a skin graft. That tells me the infection was significant, enough to have to cut away skin to prevent further damage. Why else would a skin graft be needed. There is a possibility that it could permanently affect the way he uses that foot, hence the hesitancy of teams to sign him until he can prove otherwise.

I'd rather have a suspended JG again than Dez. I absolutely want nothing to do with him.

Only way i add Dez is with a true incentive contract. Now the one positive is that Hue can deal with his personality. Hue relates well to everyone and the troubled guys, he has a knack for building a relationship with them, if they are willing to work. I dont like Dez but he will work.
