I really wasn't trying to imply he failed any test tab. I have no way of knowing what's going on. There were some rumors it may be contract related but I have no clue as to whether that has any merit either.

But at first the team called it a non football injury. There were no fines associated with that. They made a statement in full support of Josh.

Suddenly, they changed it to did not report and started fining him 49k a day for not being here.

Surely you can see the difference there and see that fining a player 40k a day doesn't appear so supportive. lol

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yeah I'm pretty clueless on the fining thing.
But we have been supportive with him in this, maybe its all contract related. It won't be the first time an idiot agent gave his player bad advice. If so, man (agents) leave the kid alone and let him finally play football.

jmho I don't mind you being more skeptical than me, I need that ying to my yang. Now Spirit was just bonkers in his say...you I respect. wink

I'm pretty sure the team had no choice but to put Josh on the "Did not report" list because he literally did not report at all. To be placed on the non-football injury list he'd have to report, take, and presumably fail a physical.

That the team could fine him doesn't necessarily mean that they will. Has there been any confirmation that he has been fined?

I keep reading about the "anxiety" angle. Has that been confirmed by a medical diagnosis? Is it a fact or was it just something one of Josh's reps fed to Schefter?

It seems that some people who are gung-ho on ripping others for jumping the gun in regards to speculation are doing a lot of speculating of their own. The same thing is going on w/the "Hard Knocks" theory. We don't know if that is true.

Some of the Josh supporters make it hard to like Josh. I know that isn't fair, but man, the one-sided, emotional outbursts and the mile-long list of excuses has gotten old over the years.

I don't know what the truth is in regards to drug tests, anxiety, salary implications, etc. I try not to speculate on those things too much.

What I do know is that the guy has talent. I also know that he has lied in the past. I also know that he has missed more games due to his OWN actions than he has played in.

What I know leads me to conclude that it would be foolish to count on the guy and his problems are self-induced.

yeah, I'd be very surprised to learn that Gordon has been fined by the team.

More info/speculation here: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20...er-flexibility/

Quote:
The decision of the Browns to place receiver Josh Gordon on the “did not report” list instead of the non-football illness list gave a vaguely ominous situation yet another layer of ambiguity. According to the Browns, however, the decision was rooted in one factor only: Roster flexibility.

While Gordon is on the “did not report” list, he won’t count toward the 90-man roster. If he were on the non-football illness list, Gordon would consume a roster spot.

Also, it’s possible the Browns couldn’t have placed Gordon on the non-football illness list if they wanted to, since he would have had to show up and fail a physical before being placed on active/NFI. Literally, he did not report for camp. So he’s on the “did not report” list.

Per a league source, Gordon’s return to the active roster won’t be automatic. He’ll have to make a written request for reinstatement to the Browns, and the Commissioner will have to approve it.

At this point, there’s no reason to think the Browns wouldn’t welcome him back, or that the Commissioner would block his return. That said, the Commissioner retains broad discretion on the question of whether Gordon has in any way violated the specific terms of his treatment plan under the substance-abuse policy, which by rule would subject him to another suspension of at least one year.

There continues to be no specific reason to believe that Gordon will be suspended again, notwithstanding the league’s arguably loaded comment that it will address Gordon’s status “at the appropriate time.” Perhaps the league’s comment refers simply to the fact that, because he did not report for camp, the Commissioner at some point will be asked to affirmatively approve his return to the active roster.

So it sounds like this is more sanctimonious bull crap from the NFL Commissioner. To me this all sounds like the original plan in his reinstatement into the league from last year. This is far too systematic to be thrown together over the off-season.

Good information.

I believe the Browns will want him back. Their comments suggest that. I don't see why the Commish would not approve his return.

My big question centers around "When will he return?"

I think many of us have been assuming that he will miss the start of TC, but return in time to adequately prepare for the start of the regular season.

But, do we know that? Does anyone?

What if this drags out to game 5 or 6? What then?

Also, will this be something that occurs over and over again?

I am not a fan of such uncertainty. There are enough questions, trials, and tribulations that pop-up during the course of a football season. This drama that continually surrounds Josh Gordon has to be a strain for the entire organization.

Gordon did have an outstanding season in 2013, but he's been suspended 11 or more games every season from 2014-2017. Meanwhile, Jarvis Landry played all 64 games those seasons, catching 400 passes for over 4,000 yards.

This was with the Dolphins so I get that they weren't "yards receiving for the Browns", but I'll take a guy like Jarvis Landry every day of the week and twice on Sunday before I ever depended on Josh.

But part of me is wondering, with jg being placed on the did not report list or what-have-you, and he won't be at camp, I'm wondering how that affects his involvement in the leagues substance abuse program....While he is away, seeking treatment or whatever, is he still going to have to commit to league urine tests....or does his not reporting status keep him away from league mandated activities as well as team activities....

The reason I bring this up, and this is total speculation, but if he were to have done something stupid, could this be a strategic maneuver to avoid a league drug test that could torpedo his eligibility this year, and possibly forever.

Again, pure speculation....just trying to understand why he all of the sudden made this move....

I've thought the same thing. I haven't speculated, but I've wondered if it could be anxiety, part of the plan, etc. However, I read where he had been gone for a couple of weeks and I wondered if something happened that made him not want to return and have to face another drug test.

I'm not saying that is true, but I don't know if I buy the "anxiety" angle either. I get the feeling the Browns don't know either.

I have to give the Browns credit. They have been more than patient and understanding w/Josh and their continued support for a player who hasn't done much on the field is commendable.

Let's hope Josh--and his tremendous potential--repay the Browns in a big way.

Kinda like we've been with the Browns?

Yes, it's Josh's fault for getting himself entangled into the bureaucracy that is the NFL rules and regulation system that goads players into kissing the butt of a sycophant who has driven the league down by a myriad of mind boggling decisions for over a decade.

You are wrong about this. No way in the world would the NFL want to punish Josh Gordon unfairly. That is such a BS premise.

Here is the more realistic version of the story. Josh got f......up during his two week absence from the team and knew he would fail the upcoming drug test. Thus, he had reps talk about anxiety issues and he skipped out in yet another lie to the public [and more importantly--to himself.]

There is NO WAY that the NFL is unfairly targeting a talent the likes of Josh Gordon. They want him on the field. He helps w/the ratings. They don't want to punish him unfairly. To think otherwise, is to not think at all.

Am I the only person who actually thinks that Josh's statement is actually pretty close to the truth here?

I think he is fighting off some urges or pre-camp habits that he had by completely removing himself from the situation.

No, you are part of the majority.

Some of us recognize that we don't know the truth and realize there are several plausible explanations. We don't just have "blind faith."

You know...........just like when Josh said he never did drugs at Utah..................then later admitted he lied.

Or, when Josh just said he had 4 drinks, and we found out that was BS.

Or, when Josh said he took cough medicine and almost everyone knew it was Purple Drank.

Or, when Josh said he just smoked marijuana, but then later admitted that he did coke, particpated in drive by shootings, and did other hard drugs.

But, you know.........you guys have a much stronger case than I do w/my skepticism of Josh's clims. crazy

I just think with how open he has been since admitting to everything with the documentary changes things up a bit. He definitely has had the "look yourself in the mirror" moment. It doesn't feel intentionally deceptive like the other times. Time will tell I suppose.

You could be right. And I also think that is a possibility. I was just expressing other possibilities as long as people are so intent on speculating.

Let me get to the bottom line. There were a couple of posters, most notably that wil character who freaked out multiple times] screaming at people where "reports" were facts. They were not facts. The sources were not even identified. If Josh Gordon, his agent, his friends, his momma or whomever else contacts Sheft and says........."he is facing anxiety issues and this was part of the plan" .........well.................that does not make it a fact. It might be tue. It might not be. I just don't like guys like will screaming at people like it's a fact.

As far as I know, there is not a medical confirmation of that claim. Without that, I tend to think it's a BS claim.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns aren't about to let Josh Gordon's absence from training camp dampen their enthusiasm.

"It can't,'' receiver Jarvis Landry said Thursday before the first practice. "We can't wait around for nobody, we have to continue to go at the pace and continue the process. But we're in full support.''

Landry, who steps up as the undisputed leader of the receiving corps in Gordon's absence, will welcome the 2013 All-Pro back with open arms, just like everyone else in the organization will.

But the Browns are on a mission to scrub 0-16 from their minds, and they can't let anything stand in their way.

"We're letting him go through that process, but right now, we're focusing on camp,'' said Landry.

Coach Hue Jackson addressed the players Wednesday in a team meeting about Gordon's decision to take some time away to focus on his health and recovery. He's not suspended, but the NFL has said there's 'no timetable for his return' and they'll 'address the matter at the appropriate time.'

"It was no true message (from Jackson),'' said Landry. "It was just that we're in full support. He's not going to be here, but we've got to move on as 90 other guys, 89 other guys that's counting on us. We can't just focus on one guy. We want him back as soon as possible, but obviously, his health is more important than this game.''

The news, first announced by Gordon on Twitter, came as a surprise to QB Tyrod Taylor, who had marveled at Gordon's ability throughout the offseason.

"I'm sure it came as a surprise to a couple of guys,'' he said. "Whatever he has to do to take time to get himself right and to be able to come back to this team and contribute, we're all for it. We stand behind him. We support him 100 percent."

Taylor's first reaction was that he wanted to know more so he could understand it.

"I'm a friend of Josh Gordon so I want him to be right mentally and physically,'' he said. "Whatever he has to do to get himself together to come out and play at a high level for us, then I am all for it. More so, a friend than a teammate."

Taylor, who's organized workouts with teammates this offseason in Florida and at USC, is still bullish on this receiving corps even if Gordon is gone for a while.

"Of course, we know that Josh has tremendous talent, but we also have a bunch of talented guys in that wide receiver room,'' he said. "If you were here in the spring, you've seen the competition day in and day out that those guys brought to the field each and every day. There are a ton of opportunities for guys to go out and make plays."

Taylor has been pleasantly surprised by Corey Coleman, who's filling in for Gordon as the starting X receiver.

"He's very athletic,'' he said. "He catches the ball with confidence. I didn't know how fast he was until I started throwing to him. The deep passes, he can definitely go get them. It's hard to over-throw him."

If the Browns bring in a veteran such as Dez Bryant, Taylor would be all for it.

"I haven't played with him, obviously,'' Taylor said. "I've only watched him. He's a great player. I'm a fan of his. ... I do not obviously make decisions for our organization, I they feel that Dez or anyone else that they could bring in could help our organization, then I stand behind them 100 percent."

Baker Mayfield became friends with Gordon in the short time they were together between the draft and minicamp last month.

Mayfield: 'I'd never get my mind right to be a backup'

"I wouldn't ever say it's a downer way to start the camp,'' said Mayfield. "Josh's health is the most important thing. He's doing all the right things to take care of himself and to me that's the most important thing."

Like Taylor, Mayfield was unaware that Gordon was struggling.

"I think he confides in certain people for things like that and since I'm a little bit new to this friendship I don't think it was going to play out that way,'' he said.

Being from Texas, Mayfield would be all about adding Bryant.

"We have talent in that room so we're expecting somebody to step up, but obviously any time you talk about bringing in a guy like that from Texas, that's pretty exciting,'' he said. "He's a good player and so we'll see what happens but for now, we're good with what we have."

Someone suggested it in the thread somewhere, but I really hope JG doesn't have this thing drag out into the season. Like, around week 10 (so it counts as an accrued year for him contractually).

It would be a bad strategy by he and his agent: maybe they wanted some longer term commitment from the Browns after a good offseason, but the Browns refused ... so he and his agent contrived this plan to limit his injury risk and still gain a season.

Not saying I think that's the case, but just spitballing.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I don’t think the browns would be backing him and supporting him like this if it was a money thing ...

Bit of a mystery that is a concern.

I hope it turns out to be something Gordon can overcome, but Dorsey has to be concerned about the depth at WR.

Josh can't help the Browns if he can't get on the field...

...how long can Dorsey wait before moving on?

I'm confused....there are billions of options I guess, but three come to mind easily...it's good thing, it's bad thing, or you can have no opinion...so, you're saying getting clean is a BAD thing, cuz you stated it isn't a good thing. Why is getting clean NOT a good thing?.....GO Browns!!!!

Your misreading what I posted, I have stated several times that Josh owning up to his problem and seeking help is a GREAT thing. Others on here are disagreeing. It might be bad for the team at THIS particular juncture, however its GREAT for Josh, and good for the team if he can stay clean.

Once again, you obviously don't know what you talking about. Anxiety is anxiety - who said it was because of weed? Do you have a link? Please share - the dude was on hard drugs and alcohol supposedly for years -

Whats all that with the rehab hero crap
Wow, your a great guy huh? A human being is trying to better himself, SHOWING maturity by admitting he has a problem and SEEKING help, and you just want to bash him? So let me guess, someone O'ds and you bash them for O'ding and call them a useless meth head, right? But then that SAME useless meth head wants to get help and tries too, and you call them "crap" and "childish". huh, maybe josh should just put a gun his mouth since he cant win what YOU think is the right thing for him to do.....

Taking drugs is/was his choice, being an addict also.
Maybe, maybe not, I don't know what got him into it in the first to make that ASSumption. So the guy who gets a prescription FROM A DOCTOR and is TOLD to take this amount, gets addicted - its his fault? Tell me, why did JG take drugs the first time? Do you know? what was going on in his life that he did? do you know? so your Assuming again, why/what/is his issue?

. Makes no sense to praise a guy who can't even do what any normal human being does
Makes no sense to bash a guy for trying to get clean, and wanting to better his life and HIS KIDS. you make me sick.

I am extremely liberal, but I don't take the crap we are all responsible for the actions of others...Josh problems don't come from him being prescribed not needed drugs.

I've had severe family problems related with alcohol and drug abuse, don't give a crap for the anxiety issues, this personalities are just toxic. You have to decide when to cut your losses and move on.

I'm not bashing the guy from trying to straight his life,I'm bashing the people who think this should be praised, and its a commendable action, no it is not. He's just doing the right thing, the things we all do it day in day out, the things he should be doing to start with, doing it should be reward enough.

The Browns are one of the most conservative redneck organizations and owners in sports. People who don't have problems refusing help and medication to kids because their parents can't afford any health insurance...

Supreme hypocrisy.... cut him, the sooner the better.

Off-course getting clean is a bad thing, its better than not getting clean for sure... but how could it ever be a good thing?

Should we all starting getting addictions to then go to rehab and do good things...He's just doing what he should have done to start with, nothing commendable IMHO.

I don't see this as a cancer at all. It's been ongoing for 6 years, so really all he is a 6th WR on a team. When available he is very productive, but you simply don't treat him as available. You build the roster without him in mind and when he is there, you use him.

Why does everyone need to be so dramatic?

Josh Gordon is not a guy who is under a $15M per year contract that is constantly hurt and pulling the team down. When he isn't there, he simply isn't there. His contract is a throwaway amount of money. There really isn't anything, other than the fact we would be better in the WR room if he is present, that is cancerous. If anything, the human side of his issue seems to be pulling the team closer being by his side during it all.

Anxiety is a very real issue that usually gets masked by drug addiction. Now that he is drug free and being forced to deal with this issue, he needs all the support he can get to overcome it.

Sorry, I read it the same way he did. It reads as if it's a bad thing simply because he needs to get clean...

Gordon was IMHO the reason we tanked in 2014, when we had a good QB in Hoyer, team was competitive and then Gordon just came in and messed all the team chemistry with Hoyer being forced to feed the ball to him.

How would you feel if you worked in a company, and the guy next to you shows up when he wants, all high and messed up, and still gets praised...

Gordon should have been cut the 2nd time he showed up high for practice, all the time since then has been a big waste of time
