I don't expect you to understand it. But in about 5 years after the Browns win their first of many Super Bowls, it will all become clear.
I'm seeing everything pretty clearly right now. I'll accept your apology at that time. And, trust me, you won't mind giving it. I'll have nothing to apologize for. You're not a browns fan. You're a Baker Mayfield fan. Those are not the same things. As for the signature, what you don't realize is how loyal Baker Mayfield is. He will be a Brown for life, contracts be damned. He's more likely to cut off his left testicle than abandon the team that believed in him enough to spend the first over-all pick on him.
Having a man crush is fine if that's what you're into.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Good news for you: you've upgraded color schemes for the fall
Bad news for you: we lose nearly every game
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Bad news for you: we lose nearly every game can confirm the only reason I'm a Browns fan is because their colorway. The orange makes my eyes pop out while the brown keeps my skin looking dark. I once tried to be a Dolphin fan, but their green colors just made my skin look orange. Enjoy looking much more dapper and festive this season.

Baker Brown hasn't posted since around 3PM yesterday. I'm guessing he woke up this morning and thought "OMG, WTF was I thinking?" or "That's the LAST time I drink Iron City while perusing the interweb!". Or maybe he woke up and said to his wife "I had the weirdest dream last night. I dreamt I was a Browns fan of all things.".

No, man, if I were new, and people acted that way, I'd leave.
I know we all joke around and know each other and our smart ass ways.
But for a new person, it's just gonna repel them.

Be a fan. Welcome if real, but if not, take off hoser. Just an odd development here.

Welcome BakerBrown! You've found a neat community. I'm a Steelers fan, but definitely not a troll. I live in Cleveland, but used to live and go to school in Pittsburgh. Look forward to some interesting discussions with you.

Yeah, I don't understand giving up an allegiance for just one person. But, whatever. I remember quite a few Longhorns fans joining this site when we drafted Colt McCoy too. They said they were always Cowboys fans, but that he was special etc. etc.
NOT that I am comparing Colt to Baker. I am not. I personally just don't understand the fixation on one person. Cult of personality, I suppose.
That said, I hope Baker is the guy who helps lead us to a championship.
I'll also add that the bandwagon fans (not saying you are one Baker as we haven't even won yet with BM) who glom onto the Browns once the wins come will be difficult to deal with. I fell in love with the Browns with Brian Sipe. I grew up in Cleveland...left in 1987 and haven't lived there since, however, the city and the Browns are in my soul and my blood. Everywhere I have lived I have rooted for my Browns. I now live in Portland, Oregon and it is hard being a Browns fan here. Every day I have jokes, banter etc. made towards me as a Browns fan or the Browns in general. Most days you listen to local sports radio and the Browns are the punch line. But, ALL of these people will no doubt want to jump on board once the wins come. All the laughter, jokes, insults etc. will be forgotten by them, but not by us.
Since the early/mid 90s it's been a hard road as a Browns fan. Actually, even before that when we were so close, yet couldn't quite get there. All the heartbreak of gutting losses, the move, the poor ownership the 18/19 years of dysfunction, poor drafting etc. It becomes part of you and no bandwagon fan can ever quite understand it.
That said...welcome, but please also understand our questions or cynicism.

hypothetically, if an OSU player is drafted 1st overall by Pittsburgh ... I can't see myself switching to a Steeler fan
But welcome!

Maybe the guy has decided, later in life, he prefers underdogs and Baker was the lure to get him off the bandwagon of the steelers?

But welcome! I loved Heyward and Shazier...until they put on that awful black and yellow costume. I’ve rooted against them since. While I hate that Shazier speared a player and ended up permanently injured I won’t miss him on the field. I hope Heyward finds himself another team, preferably in the NFC, on his next contract. That way I can at least not hate him anymore. That said I have no problems despising them, and rooting against them, and every other former Buckeye in the AFCN. You’re only a Buckeye until you’re not. Put on the ‘wrong’ uniform after that...

I would never start rooting for another team over one player. That's kind of weird. Maybe even creepy.
However, I would never hold it against guys like Hayward and Shazier for playing for the team that drafted them. I hate the Cowboys, but I still root for Zeke to do well.
Similarly, I don't like that TUN, but once they are a Brown, all that stuff is gone.
Most of all..........I am more of a fan of the game of football than I am any one team or any certain player.

sorry to be slightly off-topic, but how come the Browns don't draft OSU players very often? Because they are idiots. The crazy thing is that there are tons of Ohio State players across the NFL. A ton of very good ones. But, a lot of Brown's fans on this board don't like Ohio State and they run the "homer" thing by you when you mention something like, "Michael Thomas would be a good pick at WR," or "Zeke is a really good RB," or "Hooker is a very good FS," or "Lattimore is a very good corner." They call you a "homer," and then rip on OSU guys and build up players from other teams.

Yes, that idiocy goes back several regimes.
If the new guy says he's abandoning Pittsburgh because he loves sexy Baker, that's ok. But yeah, I agree with Vers: it's kinda weird.

Maybe the guy has decided, later in life, he prefers underdogs and Baker was the lure to get him off the bandwagon of the steelers? Pretty much this. I think to some of the most hard-core fans like these, who've been through pure hell, I totally get it that my very existence is repulsive. Not gonna let that stop me from adopting the Browns as my new favorite squad. I was totally hoping Baker would get drafted by the Browns or the Bills. I have been primed for a switch and want to be a part of witnessing a full-on franchise resurrection. I may only have a handful of shares in this stock, but I will always be able to say I bought when they were at rock-bottom! Geez, I do sound like a cult-follower, don't I!?

Unless I end up being totally wrong about Baker (in which case we'll all be very disappointed), I'm around for the long haul. That said, I'm not going to be a power-poster or anything. But once the season gets going, and especially once Baker gets his shot, I'll drop in for sure!

Yes, pretty much. I mean you've actually made it obvious that the only reason you're here is due to Baker being here. Had he have been drafted by the bills, you would be a Bills fan right now.
I hope you can understand why some of us see you as a Baker Mayfield fan and not a Browns fan. I mean that's pretty much what you've been saying yourself all along.

Welcome.
I sure hope Baker is all you think he is.
So far so good. He has done what is expected. He has conducted himself properly. From all indications he is doing well in camp.
Our recent quarterback history as everyone knows has been atrocious.
We seem to have created a good environment for Baker to learn from.
After this year it all ends on his shoulders.
I am optimistic but apprehensive at the same time.
You never know till you face the challenge head on.

"Contracts be damned" = "Scholarships be damned." If you really followed that story (watch the documentary), you'd know that it wasn't about the scholarship or money. It was about respect and an overt (and foolish) disregard for fair play. Baker will play against a stacked deck. He's that confident. But he won't keep doubling down against a warped deck where the rules keep changing in favor of the house. No self-respecting competitor will stick around in those conditions. If Kingsbury had merely acknowledged that Baker earned the right to start after coming back from injury (which he completely [censored] did), KK could have probably been stingy about the scholly for another semester or two. Sure, it's a hyperbole. But maybe not as much as you might think. You really have a good one, here. When you put a banner of this one on the side of your downtown building, you won't ever need to take it down because he bolted for more glory or more money.

Nothing wrong with that, but it is what it is. Totally agree with every word you said except that I'm not a Browns fan. I'm a Browns fan because I'm a Baker Mayfield fan. Maybe my reasons are more shallow than yours. And certainly my depth of passion is not as strong as yours. But I mean it when I say I'm a fan, and I'll be pulling for the Browns every game this year.

We are going to need you to provide Pittsburgh's detailed game plan come Steeler week, including their scripted first 20 plays. Yes it's a lot to ask, and yes it is a dangerous mission.

One of you asked what Baker had done to impact me and my son. This is one example. It may seem like a small thing; but it really meant a lot to us.
This is how I shared the story on the Sooners (Rivals) message board that I frequent. This happened about this same time, last year.
"This year I took my son up for Meet The Sooners, where each kid gets to take a ball around and get it signed by all the players he can get to before noon.
We got some bad advice from one of the security guards on duty that it would be good for us to get other signatures before Baker's while the QB line thinned out. Unfortunately, we followed said bad advice.
Baker's line never thinned out. It just got longer and longer, to the point that by the time we were in it, it was snaking half-way around the stadium concourse . . . with only about 15 minutes left till noon.
I had something special planned for Charlie (my ten year old son), so it was really a bummer and I didn't know how to break it to him that we weren't going to get Baker's signature. Having done this for many years, we knew that every year, no matter what, the autographs stop promptly at noon. The athletic staff sweeps in and all the players have to leave, no exceptions.
But somehow, as the minutes drifted past noon, the line just kept moving. And moving. And moving.
We later learned that Baker had "asked to stay" (translate: refused to leave) so that every kid could get an autograph. It was damn near 1:30pm when we finally got to the table. It was hot AF under the stadium. Baker was sweating bullets but smiling brightly as we approached with the other remaining kids in line - maybe 10 of us. There was not a single other player in site. Just a couple fidgety, perturbed ladies from the staff and a couple security guards.
We handed Baker the ball to sign but before he could sign it with the black marker in his hand, Charlie handed him a brand new bronze sharpie.
"It's because you're going to win the Heisman," he said.
Baker looked at him, smiled, grabbed the pen, and signed without hesitation.
Charlie has that ball in a case in his room with Baker's bronze signature right next to the OU on the football. Also has the rest of the starters and key players for the whole team, and Lincoln Riley's dated signature (in his first year).
It's a small thing, I realize. But we're very grateful that Baker was the kind of person that puts kids'/fans' interests like Charlie ahead of his own comfort and schedule. He had every excuse to duck out of the stadium with the rest of his teammates. He'd paid his dues. But Baker had the humility to hang around, even when no one "important" would really know or care about what he did. Just a bunch of dads like me and our kids.
This is one of the reasons I can say with confidence that you are not getting another Manziel, here.

That's where the disconnect is. I don't think being a fan of one Browns player makes you a Browns fan. I respect your position. But odds are that you did not become a fan of the Browns on your own. It was probably someone you cared about or admired who was already a fan. And you followed suit. Sure, maybe its a bit weird because it's not like I'm related to Baker directly. But I just really like, admire, if not downright love that kid. I guess it's kind of like that old saying we find ourselves using from time to time, "any friend of ______'s is a friend of mine." There are some people in our lives who hold that kind of sway. You don't get it yet because you haven't experienced it yet. But I swear, there are going to be some of you who name your kids after this guy.

That the wonderful thing about being a fan, there's no prerequisite, anyone can join, whatever their motivation. Amen. It's hard enough to quantify the team... the players, their skill level, their commitment level. Far be it from me to try and quantify someone's fan level. Besides that, there are posters here that are not fans at all... and others that you wish weren't lol. Again, welcome BakerBrown. It will be fun to watch Baker's rise to NFL quarterback.

This seems like a solid crew. Glad to be a part of it. I like this reply. Pretty smooth. I won't make a new post, but you addressed me later about the hyperbole and if I really knew the story of Baker at TT. I know more than you think I do. I know that he and his father alienated the coaching staff w/their arrogance and demands. It wasn't as simple as just KK dumping him.
