I am never in favor of moving guys away from the position of strength (and Bitonio was LESS than thrilled about the concept of it) ... but if Coleman is that bad and Corbett is a good LG option, it might be our only way to manage the OL

I'm in agreement with you. As much as I don't want to move Joel, we need to have competent play at left tackle. It is still early but messing around with Joel leads me to believe Coleman is no good.

I like Grossi. I think he asked a lot of hard questions that the Brass doesn't want asked. Things like " How can you keep a Coach with a 1-31 record'.

I hope everyone realizes that in camp, if a receiver looks good, a cornerback has to look bad. Their jobs are diametrically opposed. If Landry does not beat Carrie, people would be saying that Landry looked like hell and not worth the money. To train against each other only helps to make everyone better when they play against other teams.

Hue says goal for OL is to put the best 5 players out there and staff decided to put Bitonio at LT and Corbett at LG for now. “Right now he gives us the best chance.” Stressed right now.

My friend predicted this change. Joel at LT, Corbett taking his old spot and so on.

Really, if that's what is effective and hte best solution to execute - so be it! Joel never sounded excited/pumped to play LT, probably cause he's not getting paid LT money.

The Joel Bitonio move overshadows another interesting Browns lineup change today: Terrance Mitchell supplanted TJ Carrie at CB on 1st team. That's far from a done deal, however.

Things still might change since Robinson and Harrison are out.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns left guard Joel Bitonio was moved to starting left tackle on Wednesday and admitted he's reluctant to try to fill the shoes of his good buddy Joe Thomas.

"You're always scared of the unknown,'' said Bitonio, who's started the last four seasons at left guard.

Bitonio replaces third-year pro Shon Coleman who got first crack at replacing the future first-ballot Hall of Fame.

With Bitonio sliding over to left tackle, 2018 No. 33 overall pick Austin Corbett moves into his spot at first team left guard.

Asked if he's reluctant to make the switch, Bitonio said "for sure.''

He said he's comfortable at left guard and that he'll have to play more in space, but that he'll do whatever he can to help the team.

Coach Hue Jackson brushed off offensive line coach Bob Wylie saying that Bitonio at left tackle was "Plan Z.

"That position's got to play better for us,'' he said. "I'm pretty confident he can (do it).''

He reassured Bitonio that he'll keep looking for left tackles and said he understands how Bitonio feels.

"Was he reluctant" Yeah, I would be too,'' Jackson said.

But Jackson added, "he's surprising himself that he can go out there and do anything.''

Hue Jackson was not pleased when Bob Wylie's "plan Z" comments regarding Bitonio at LT from the weekend came up today
"I think that you guys ask the coaches way too many questions. I am just being honest. I make those decisions. Those are none of our coaches’ decisions."

Bitonio moving to left tackle is a pretty big deal. I think it’s the right move.

What. He didn’t actually say this, did he?

It sounds like Shon is having just as much trouble with the “foot adjustment” switching back to LT as he did with the “foot adjustment” when he switched to RT ... ...

I’m “shocked” that wasn’t it ...

U were right in the other thread Vers ... i did get them confused .... i’m right with U on Carrie not being good last year ... he started for a HORRIFICK secondary and they even had Mack “protecting” them as much as he could ...

Yeah, he did and I don't have a problem with it. Wylie spoke out of turn and the media has been running with his comments all afternoon.

Anyone hear anything about Howard Willson? I have high Hopes for him

--Glad to hear that Bitonio was moved to LT. Pit and I ---and maybe Diam---all said he lacked the feet [as in lateral movement] to play LT. Of course, the know-it-alls on here kept telling us that it was all about playing RT after he was used to playing LT. LOL .........Yeah, okay........feet are feet. You can either move laterally quickly or you can't.

--Hue mentioned we will be looking for another LT. That's good.

--Yeah Diam, Carrie got burned a lot last year in Oakland. I haven't heard nary a peep about Gaines. Have you? Maybe PDawg has. He seems to be on top of things.

Offensive line coach Bob Wylie saying that Coleman needed to get off the snap quicker ... the problem is that he needs to be offsides in order to achive this. Oops!

It might be time to move on ... Tony (T-Bone) Jones moved from RG to LT (although he had some length to him), ... if Bitonio gives us the best 5 option @LT, then I think that giving him an early start at the transition is the way to go.

But what about the park where he said the reporters ask too many questions. Was it a joke?

A couple of us have been saying for years that we thought Bitonio could play LT. He played it in college. And he played it well.

He doesn't have the feet that Joe had, but I feel more comfortable w/him over there than I did w/Coleman.

That doesn't mean I am right. Just an opinion.

He may have been half joking. He said that the media asks too many questions of his staff, not him. I assume he thinks they should be asking him those questions. Not sure why you have a problem with this?

I'm way more comfortable with Bitonio there ... at least he has the experience to play at a high level. IMO he's our best option there, unless we make a trade

I don't think that the subject came up in Bitonio's presser, ... Whether or not Corbett will still be practicing @ LT as well as 1st team LG?

Anyone know where Drango has been getting reps? I didn't expect him to challenge for LT, but thought maybe he would have been 1st team LG if Bitonio was kicked outside. Also didn't hear mention of who filled for Zeitler at RG after calf injury.

He filled in for Zeitler when he had his veteran day off.

I don't know the answer for sure but I didn't see him practice with the twos today on NFL Network. We have 2 left tackles out right now so he might still be getting later reps.

I don't think anyone who watched the Browns last year is surprised that Bitonio would/might be the best LT on the team after JT - he was a LT in college as well. The move was briefly discussed last year after JT went down and the decision was made to only disrupt (1) starting position rather than two. I think that was the smart play. So one year later - but in TC - it appears that Bitonio is still the best LT in camp.

The Bitonio move - if finalized - makes sense. We have guys who can play well at LG. I actually think that's why Robinson was signed...he gives us (maybe) another G after we slide Bitonio out. We've seen Drango at LG and LT. I thought he played well at LG and juuuuust under serviceable at LT. He's a better-than-decent G. Corbett looks like an interior guy - just ask JT. Coleman/Drango are the swing backup tackles with some decent competition at starting LG.

I expect us to target a real LT early in the 2019 draft after we roll with Bitonio at LT for 2018. Drafted stud at LT, Bitonio, Corbett, Zeitler, Hubbard in 2019...wouldn't surprise me at all. If Bitonio studs out and wants to stay there it's a bonus.

The coaches have been saying all summer that they want the best (5) guys out there. This move won't really surprise many of the more hardcore Browns fans.

Training Camp Log, Day 6: Defense wins 2-minute drill; Ross Martin takes kicking contestby Scott Petrak August 1, 2018

HURRY UP: The defense won the two-minute drill, as the first- and second-team offenses needed touchdowns to win and couldn’t crack the end zone.

Quarterback Tyrod Taylor led the starters to the 15-yard line with a 17-yard completion to receiver Corey Coleman on fourth-and-16, but a lob into the end zone was knocked away and time expired. Baker Mayfield’s picked up a first down with the twos before the drive ended with a short completion on fourth-and-16 with 11 seconds left.

Veteran Drew Stanton, working with the third team, only needed a field goal and succeeded after a 33-yard completion to receiver Blake Jackson on a double move that fooled cornerback Mike Jordan.

NEWS OF THE DAY: Coach Hue Jackson showed little patience and perhaps some panic by changing the left side of the first-team offensive line. Joel Bitonio was moved from guard to tackle and Shon Coleman was demoted. Rookie Austin Corbett was inserted as the starting guard.

CAMPER OF THE DAY: Ross Martin, who’s from Solon, won the kicking competition for the day. He was 3-for-3 to open practice, converting from 37, 47 and 52 yards. He made a 40-yarder to complete Stanton’s two-minute drive.

He’s battling with incumbent Zane Gonzalez, who missed wide right from 47 in the early drill.

PLAY OF THE DAY: Defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi knifed into the backfield and would’ve dropped rookie running back Nick Chubb if the players were in pads and tackling permitted. Ogunjobi, in his second season, has stood out early in camp, earning a few snaps with the starters. His quickness has been impressive.

Been hearing good things about Higgan's camp so far. I very much like hearing this.

Joel at LT is likely just a position swap in practice to get a feel for things. He's so good at LG I don't see why he'd swap come regular season. If he was good at LT and it was best for the team that Corbett plays LG - then I'm all for it if it came down to it.
