My comment was more towards will than you. He is the one who brought up the point which made it obvious he didn't even bother to read the articles.
What's obvious is that a lot of people are downplaying the good that LeBron is doing. They don't like cooperation. They don't like making society better.
They like to divide people. They like hanging onto their hate.
This thread could have been great, but Swish and CHS chose to make it something it wasn't. They totally misconstrued my question and others followed suit.
This board is hurt by the fact that we have so many hateful people on both sides of almost any issue.
Cooperation? No
Collaboration? No
Progress? No
One-sided rhetoric. Yes
Hate for the other side? Yes
Insults? Yes.
All y'all can kiss my butt!
Peace. LOL

"this thread could've been great, but i asked minorities a question, and they had the audacity to actually answer it". No, you didn't answer it. You're so engulfed by your own bias and hate that you either: --did not understand the question because the kneelers were mentioned or --you purposely chose to answer dishonestly because the kneelers were mentioned. For the rest of you...........I was NOT criticizing the players that kneel when I asked the question. What I was suggesting was that the mainstream media, Trump, and even some of the owners were focusing more on guys who kneel than they are on guys like LeBron James and Warrick Dunn. What Swish doesn't understand due to his hate and bias, is that I am actually supporting minorities and their fight against oppression when I ask this question. Think about it....... Dudes kneeling during the anthem. That is going to upset a whole lot of white folks. Dudes doing great things that help their community. That won't upset white folks. So, what do the powers-that-be publicize the most? The kneelers. Not the do-gooders. Why................it's just another in a long line of acts to keep blacks down. They don't want you to hear about the good. They want to you to hear about the controversial. They want to further the divide...........and no one wants that more than Donald Trump! I can't believe so many people are falling into his trap!

Eve, I know that. You don't think I am stupid, do you?
The real question lies much deeper. Why does that equal greater ratings?
Do I have to answer my own damn question for y'all?

I dont think its any deeper than that.

Not sure how much we are disagreeing, Sister Eve.
Think about this for a moment. Take what you said about how drama sells.
The powers that be [Trump, Media, NFL Owners] sell us:
--NFL players are kneeling.
Many middle class, white folks will view this as an insult to the great old US of A and proclaim something like: "these spoiled "blacks" are ruining our country.
Contrarily, many blacks who are fed up w/discrimination will automatically defend the protestors w/out fully examining the specifics of it. They love sticking it to "whitey."
Now, think about this. LeBron's family foundation has a ton of good acts. He speaks out against the president and oppression of minorities. He helps poor people, but includes people of multiple races. What does the media, Trump, and others do?
--They report those acts, but they don't get the attention in sports talk shows, articles, other media venues that the kneeling controversy does.
One might conclude that certain people don't want to concentrate on those who help bridge divides. They don't want to recognize cooperation. They don't want to acknowledge the good and instead concentrate on the divisive stuff because it's a freaking plan to keep us down!
Let me tell you a little story. Did you know that during the Reconstruction period of our country that a white man could go to jail and a black man would be whipped at town square if the white man tried to educate a black man? Why would they do that?
The goal of those in power has always been to keep the lower classes feuding. While we battle one another, their pig faces feast on the riches while we thank them for their scraps.
Time to wake up!

I think I disagree with that.
Entertainment is purely about money. And sports is entertainment.
In fact, the entertainment industry is far more liberal than conservative.
The NFL does TONS of feel good stories during their broadcasts about outreach to the community.
TONS.
The NBA, not so much.
I know the NFL is registered as a charity, so maybe that is why they show those community programs. I dont know.
I also dont know if the NBA is registered as a charity.
I do know the NFL's ratings have been declining. So they have to weigh kneeling drama vs alienating viewers.

That is a fair reply.
I just think the social ramifications of the black/white dynamics is really strong and old alliances and judgements are hard to let go of for most of our society.

I feel like the white/black issues are less evident in sports as a large percentage of athletes are black, and very many superstars are black. Its basically impossible to root for a team and not root for black athletes.

I finally opened this thread tonight and I have to say, I've never admired Lebron as much as I do now. And to add: as usual, great stuff from Clem!

Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Vers, I guess the best answer I can give you is that human nature rules supreme. My examples are rather basic.
If you're driving down the highway and there is an accident, traffic crawls to a snails pace and often time traffic backs up. Even when the accident itself doesn't impede that roadway.
If someone stops along the road to help someone with a flat tire or whose car broke down, traffic moves along as usual.
As humans, most can't help but be intrigued and sucked in by a worse case scenario. They'll break their own necks to get a glimpse at the worse our world has to offer. When someone is doing something good? Not so much.
I also believe personal bias plays a huge part. If a narrative is given that falls into their preconceived notions of reality, they are quick to accept it without question. They aren't interested in hearing or believing anything other than the narrative that's already in their minds.

Think about this. Our country is run by a man who hears the news of a star black athlete opening up a school for at-risk kids and he not only doesn't praise him, but he says "“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.”
Are you freaking kidding me? That is the president of the United States speaking? It sounds like some 'neck in a rural dive bar. I have a better description for the bar, but you know....LOL
And I think this goes back to my point that the president, some media members, and some of the owners want the focus to be on the guys kneeling because it angers/disgusts a significant percentage of the white population and they largely ignore the good deeds that men like LeBron James is doing. Heck, there were more articles on TT punching Draymond than LeBron's school.
I truly believe that certain people in power and pushing the divide. And dumb asses on both sides are falling prey to their sinister plan.
Of course, they are loving that because we are so much easier to control when we are fighting among ourselves.

While this LeBron contribution is laudable, it’s insignificant.
Even for the Akron area, this is a mere drop in the bucket.
He could better help the black cause by championing a nationwide program of getting kids to school.
Even in tiny, liberal Hartford, CT, the black absentee rate K-12 is deplorable.

J/C ..... I think that it's ridiculous for Trump to say that Lebron isn't intelligent. He has set up his whole life, companies, and philanthropy, without spending a single day in college. That doesn't happen with an unintelligent man.
Trump would have been better served to ask Lebron to take part in a nationwide discussion on education in the inner city, instead of lashing out at him.

Trump had a rally in Columbus, and didn’t say a word about Lebron.
We all know why, too. Even the trump supporters would’ve booed his ass talking about the king IN Ohio.

'Who's paying for LeBron James' new I Promise school? LeBron or Akron Public Schools?'You wouldn't know from all the national coverage that LeBron James isn't paying for everything at his new I Promise School in Akron.
He's paying for part of it. A good part of it.
But it's also a public school within the Akron school district, which means that taxpayers will pay for the bulk of the costs.
The exact breakdown of expenses for the new I Promise School is unclear, since the district and the LeBron James Family Foundation are still sorting out final details of their contract. But the district will pay more than half the costs - perhaps around 75 percent - once it is fully running.More: https://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ss...art_river_index

Yeah, that was covered in the first two articles I posted. It's not "breaking news."
I don't want to be mean, but I don't think it's right for anyone to spin this in a negative way. The taxpayers have to pay for those student's education no matter what. LeBron's foundation is donating money. They are even doing things like partnering w/companies such as Chase. They sell a shoe to donors and leave the other one on the wall in the school.
This is a great humanitarian act by LeBron's family foundation. I also applaud Akron Public School system and the University of Akron for partnering w/LeBron's foundation in order to make a positive difference in the lives of at-risk children.
The future of our children should always be the nation's highest priority. And I sure as hell would rather my tax dollars go towards education of at-risk youths instead of separating them from their parents and putting them in camps.

Even in tiny, liberal Hartford, CT, the black absentee rate K-12 is deplorable. But that's the wonderful thing about philanthropy. The donor makes the decision that aligns with what they want to accomplish, whether on a local, national, or international level. It's been clear from Day 1, that Lebron wants to inject transformative change to those in Akron. He has been consistent and steadfast in that endeavor fro quite some time. The even better thing is, he's what only 33 years old? Donors are generally doing these kinds of gifts much later in life, if they are even able to do it at all. Akron will be lucky to have Lebron's generosity and vision for many decades to come. Is it a drop in the bucket? I don't know...maybe. But I think it's also fair to say Lebron's support of the region thus far is a drop in the bucket to what he'll ultimately give back in his lifetime.

I doubt Lebron would take him up on the offer, though. Lebron is pretty clear on his views regarding Trump and perhaps the reason Trump has lashed out. That being said, the politics of a One-on-One meeting request by Trump would be interesting to see unfold.
