Sweet talker. LOLetc.

I couldn't care less about his likes or lacks. If it is too painful, don't go. Refuse it. After the nonsense for several teams, the NFL honors him. Just sad IMO.

I think that is petty as hell. Very disappointed in the HOF.

They are announcing him as I understand. I heard they are just not going into detail like they will give biographies on the others.

TO is the doofus here...PERIOD!

I find it amusing that people wish to dog TO for not coming to Canton but applaud the HOF for refusing to show his bio.

I guess our society has gotten to the point that people believe that, "When they go low, we go lower" is the way to respond to someone.

People say TO is a spoiled jerk, yet they applaud the HOF for responding in kind. You couldn't make this stuff up!

I think that is a very jaded and slanted viewpoint. TO was invited. He refused to come. That's fine, but don't cry when we don't glorify your pampered butt.

The Hall of Fame has lost what little respect I had for it. Keep a top 5 player in his position out of the Hall because he was a diva, but readily accept women beaters. Good riddance.

Great player, never liked him. Pure diva, but I think the HoF shoulda taken the high road.
I also think he shoulda went to the ceremony like everyone else.

In my opinon TO should not be in the hof. He was alright, but more of a sideshow than anything. Waste of time for this, give it to some legit hard worker instead.

I agree.

No doubt TO is a egg head, but none the less his numbers prove it out.

I don't like he wouldn't go to Canton, but am thrilled he is headed to Chattanooga to celebrate where it started.

He made a choice. Rescind the invite. The HoF doesn't need to take a black eye for his refusal. Their gig. Just a real low-bar situation. I guess they showed each other!

the sad thing is TO has gained more attention this way than if he'd just be like every other inductee.

I'd prefer the media just ignore him and focus on the others.

TO belongs in the Hall, his stats don't lie. The selection committee started this, they had their say, now TO gets his....and..the Hall by excluding him will give the media lots of ammo to make it an issue....how many inductees bring up TO...at least two....the Hall would be SMART to reverse their announcement and include TO....dead guys aren't there, who says TO has to be.....GO Browns!!!

Maybe I came across differently in my post, but that's exactly how I feel. TO's numbers certainly qualify him for the HOF. So no matter his antics he deserves to be there.

I love NFL players of high character, but let's face it, that's a bar many of them never reach. In my world TO certainly fits into that category. But IMO, that doesn't excuse the HOF for treating him any differently.

I don't expect that HOF to change their standards based on how they perceive any certain player. At some point that makes them no different than TO.

I'm actually quite shocked at some of the reactions here. TO has been a jerk towards his teammates, the media and to the fans, he's forced his way out of a few franchises for simply being an ass, he's blasted the NFL for not allowing him access to their special HOF club on his own timeline, cracks the city of Canton (low-class) and then refuses to show up for the ceremony.....and then people are expecting the NFL to take the high road by still honoring him after all that.

No.

He's in the club based on statistics, but he's a grade A jerk. I'm glad the NFL won't be going any extra mile to honor him.

I know that while some fans might be taking his side, players who are in the HOF are not.

4Life said it earlier. TO managed to steal the entire spotlight of this year's HOF class. That's not cool, as it is a really good class.

T.O. was the second best WR to ever play the game.

He's mentally ill, and deserves his fair share of blame, but most of the friction came from ownership, not him.

It's just funny to see the NFL call him a "diva" repeatedly, acting like they're above it, and here they are trying to throw drinks at him and slight him in every way possible. If ya'll both want to be messy, then be a mess. Don't, however, try to pretend like you're (NFL) the professional here and TO isn't. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth of fans.

It's the NFL's product. They get to sanitize it however they want. TO has crapped all over this event. You can say they're lowering themselves to TO, but I'd argue they are just removing the distraction from their day of celebration. They did award him this highest honor.

If they did make him part of the celebration now, I would expect a chorus of boo's from the fans at the event. That's a distraction, ruins the day for the other nominees who showed up and probably makes it look worse during the media coverage than simply removing his name from the ceremonies.

Also, being petty would be canceling the invite and reversing their decision to put him in the hall. TO whined about not being a first ballot HOFamer, blasted the host city and is refusing to appear.....tell me why the NFL should "take the high road" and still honor him?

No offense, but I really can't understand the blame going to the HOF/NFL. Media members from each of the NFL cities vote on who gets in the Hall. That isn't the NFL's fault or the fault of the HOF.

TO is stealing the attention away from the other inductees. That isn't cool. The HOF is still entering him into the Hall and are mailing him his jacket. What were they supposed to do, put a jacket on a dummy and pretend to honor him during the ceremony? LOL...I could make a joke, but I won't.

Former players who are in the HOF are not supporting TO on this decision. He's being petty and self-serving, which are not exactly two new traits used to describe him.

I just expect better from the NFL and the HOF than I do from TO. Maybe I should have quelled my expectations.

I would almost want to make the distinction between the NFL and the HOF..

The HOF (it's board and it's executive director) has done nothing wrong here that I'm aware of.. but there is a point that the NFL celebrates diva-like behavior most of the time because it sells tickets and creates controversy and interest which all, in turn, feeds the bottom line....

Now most of what I've seen wrong in this instance was all within TOs control and he chose poorly.. but I don't have a tremendous amount of sympathy for the NFL when the divaness they openly market blows up in their face once in a while.

This 100%. Nice to see the NFL have the balls to make the proper decision. TO made his bed, NFL has no obligation to fluff his pillows.

That was well put. No matter what you do or decline doing, you are setting precedents. An NFL with some limits is OK with me, though they do bungle some stuff regularly IMO.

NBC Sports: HOF ponders a T.O. rule.
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/08/06/hof-ponders-a-t-o-rule/

HoF is thinking about making players sign an agreement that they will be at the Shop ceremony before they can be announced as HoF finalist candidates. The HoF are the real divas.

It's funny how everyone calls T.O. the diva yet doesn't expect higher standards from the HOF. A player either deserves to be in the Hall or they don't. T.O. deserves it. You're rtight, it looks like the HOF puts their own ego over whether a player has earned the right to be there.

No, the HoF might just be another diva in a world full of divas..

I heard some clips from TOs speech at Chattanooga.. his reasons for the boycott were that the voting media and the HoF's values weren't the same or something like that? I still am not sure what his point was.

I like this move by the HOF. Never again allow one selfish player steal the spotlight away from the other inductees.

There was much more talk about TO's decision than all of the other candidates combined. He was known as a selfish person who was divisive in the locker room and he continues that selfishness w/his new "team."

I do not think one person should be bigger than all the rest.

Had the HOF not made it a big issue to start with, maybe it wouldn't have garnered so much attention. Sometimes you create your own circumstances.

At this point they look no less petty than some claim T.O. to be.

Yes, the HoF made TO the talk of the town for two seasons by holding him out of the HoF for non-football reasons. Instead they choose to induct him in the same class as Randy Moss, arguably the greatest WR to play the game, and Ray Lewis, an accused killer, both of whom were first time candidates. Really a poor show on the HoF's part. My Dad always said that the HoF was turning into the Hall of Really Good, now it's turning into the Hall of Contractual Respect, which, as we all know, is the highest form of respect.

You do realize I'm just playing w/two guys are fabricating their false indignation?

Btw----------it's not the HOF who chooses the players. It's a group of media members. It's only been stated 152 times, but some want to keep blaming the HOF for that.
