Broncos say their former personnel executive Tom Heckert has passed away. Former Eagles and Browns GM. Great guy who had been ill a while. Horrible news.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Wow,, I didn't know he was even ill.. I thought a few years ago, he got into some Trouble for drinking, but that's the last thing I remember hearing about him

Man, he was really young. (51) It really makes you think when guys who are years younger than you start passing away.
It also shows the wisdom of what GM said the other day on his thread; to live and enjoy every day, because you are not guaranteed even today.

Tom Heckert was recently diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare disease in which amyloid proteins build up in your organs. It's the same disease former Lions president Matt Millen is reportedly fighting. https://twitter.com/NickiJhabvala/status/1026503639924264960?s=19Crazy. I felt like I saw him on TV not too long ago.

RIP Mr Heckert.
He was actually the best Browns talent evaluator we've had in quite a long time*. That may be bordering on "damned by faint praise" but he actually did find us some good players. I also long believed that the Richardson/Weeden debacle was more about Holmgren than it was about Heckert.
*I'm not including John Dorsey in this equation, as the players acquired have yet to play a game for the Browns
