Trump had a rally in Columbus, and didn’t say a word about Lebron.
We all know why, too. Even the trump supporters would’ve booed his ass talking about the king IN Ohio. Kasich said that Trump wasn't even invited into Ohio LMAO

j/c: Here is LeBron's first public comment since Trump's petty and ignorant remarks. It's a tweet, so I apologize for it looking so weird, but there is also two pictures of smiling kids at the school.
LeBron James ✔ @KingJames
Let’s get it kids!! Love you guys I PROMISE School ✔ @IPROMISESchool
All smiles 😃 #WeAreFamily #IPROMISE View image on Twitter View image on Twitter 12:09 PM - Aug 4, 2018

I think LeBron scored big by ignoring Trump's insults and staying positive w/the kids.

We all know why, too. Even the trump supporters would’ve booed his ass talking about the king IN Ohio. It was in LEWIS CENTER at some school gym and looked as though he only filled about half of it. Broad shots showed a mostly white crowd with the usual few brown people behind him. smdh I thought it was laughable that this was the 'big crowd he drew'. Bernie would have had more people in the parking lot than Trump had at the entire rally. I wish I had realized it was slow close, I would have went just to heckle him.

Same. I wanted to see someone start chanting "LeBron James" when Trump was speaking.
I actually like Trump rallies, he plays the best British music before going on stage. #MAGA

He could fill the shoe! Ya mean that Old Woman who lived in a shoe that had so many children she didn't know what to do? Good analogy. He just might fill the shoe, really easy to do when you're on a college campus filled with people that haven't got a lick of real world experience to know what they're talking about yet. My daughter wasn’t there, she was working the Wendy’s that got slammed with people after the rally.

Interesting article. Today's first day of class? At least they're trying something. I'm sure they're well are of a high risk of failure of the program. It will be very costly. With a very unpredictable pay-off. (improvement in the poor local black socio-economical condition) There's just so much further to go. Getting kids caught up to 4th grade level is still a million miles from happy, contributing members of society. Regardless, many of Versetile's assertions above are wrong and unnecessary.

I rather get a 3rd and 4th race education from Lebron’s School than attend trump university.
Oh wait, trump university went down for fraud.

What's amazing to me [well, it's not amazing] but we have guys criticizing LeBron's good deeds. They are looking to pick apart what he is doing to help out our communities and our youths.
And rocky's continued slandering of black people is beyond old. Blacks can't contribute to our society? Blacks can't be happy? Blacks can't improve? Are you freaking kidding me?

It can seem that way at times, bro. However, I think most people recognize what great things LeBron is doing and it may encourage others to step-up their good deeds as well. Furthermore, some people are being exposed by the comments they make.
I think there are good and bad people in all races. I think we should strive to make our communities a better place by building upon the good acts and pushing the haters aside as we try and make the world a better place.
We absolutely cannot allow biased, prejudiced, closed-minded people [no matter what group they come from] deter us. We will never change their minds. They will always spew their hatred towards certain people. We simply must move beyond them and leave them in the dust, where they belong.

When I read rocky's disparaging remarks about LeBron's 'less than 100%'/'drop in the bucket' initiative , I was reminded of a joke I heard many years ago. It centered upon someone who had nothing good to say about something good. I will now share with the entire class.

A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded: "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded, overpriced and dirty. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?"
"We're taking Continental," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"
"Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser. "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, they have the worst customer service, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"
"We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste."
"Don't say another word. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump."
"We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope."
"That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. "You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."
A month later, the woman again came in for a touch-up. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome .
"It was wonderful," explained the woman. "Not only were we on time in one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot."
"And the hotel was great! They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!"
"Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the Pope."
"Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope sometimes likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me."
"Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he even spoke a few words to me."
"Oh, really!" said the hairdresser. "What'd he say ?" "Who fkd up your hair?"

*LeBron just helped build a school bringing education, food, bikes and a future to poor inner city kids. *I've actually taught in schools, bringing music, mentorship and hope to poor inner city kids. Let's now have the entire class ask rocky: "what have you done for poor inner city kids?"
For some people, character (and initiative) still counts for something. Apparently, others' mileage may vary.

I guess James shouldn't have even bothered, eh? that seems to be the opinion of some.. Them: Why don't these athletes do something in their community instead of protest? Me: LeBron is spending tens of millions on an elementary school, he rented out a theme park so poor kids could go, and he's committing to put at-risk kids through college. Them: Yea, but how many kids? Why is he only helping black kids? I have literally had that exact conversation on social media.

I want to stick w/the theme of the story you told. This one isn't funny and it's short, but I think it captures the essence of how the players involved view the situation. Many years ago two salesmen were sent by a British shoe manufacturer to Africa to investigate and report back on market potential.
The first salesman reported back, "There is no potential here - nobody wears shoes."
The second salesman reported back, "There is massive potential here - nobody wears shoes." The two salesman used the same exact words except one chose "no potential" and the other chose "massive potential." I think there are parables to that story and what we are witnessing w/the LeBron story. Some look at generational poverty and at-risk children and "see" only the negatives. They immediately dismiss the potential of those community members. Others look at the same situation and realize how much potential the children have and choose to develop that potential instead of suffocating it. The choice is ours to make.

I think what LeBron is doing is admirable. It will be interesting to see how things will turn out relative to other public schools in Akron and beyond. Things like that should matter more than the bickering back and forth on Twitter and in the media. I'm still wondering how you got what you said from this post: So divisive!

Anyway, I've been looking around for info about Akron public schools, and I'm reminded of how difficult it is to find that kind of info. Anyone have a good source? For now, there's this... https://www.niche.com/k12/d/akron-city-school-district-oh/Akron City School District is a public school district located in Akron, OH. It has 21,261 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 16 to 1. According to state test scores, 38% of students are at least proficient in math and 37% in reading. Are there any goals for LeBron's I Promise schools? It seems like 100% proficiency in reading would be something to strive for, although I know that is unrealistic. However, 37% should be be improved on. Thoughts?

I understand why some people want to divert the attention away from what's really important here, but let's not fall for it.
The children who are attending the I Promise School are residents of Akron. Taxpayers would be paying for their education regardless of LeBron.
What we have here is a partnership between LeBron's Family Foundation, Akron Public Schools, the University of Akron, and some private companies that are donors of the programs.
The reason for the partnership is to actually do something about giving at-risk kids a better chance at succeeding. The children are going to be held accountable. They are going to be given opportunities to succeed and become positive members of the community.
I vigorously support programs that are designed to promote the well-being and growth of our children. I especially encourage assisting at-risk youths in an attempt to become quality citizens.
Will there be failures and problems? Of course.
Should we concentrate on those problems and failures and just give up the fight? Hell no!!!
I also think this kind of story may encourage other people of influence to initiate even more social programs that have the purpose of improving their communities.
I even think that some common folks might draw inspiration from stories like this and attempt to do what they can to make a positive difference in their communities. Some may not have the financial resources, but they donate their time at rec clubs, volunteer at homeless shelters, assist the Habitat for Humanity's efforts, volunteer in literacy programs at local schools, etc.
I would encourage you to not be the person who says there is no potential there because they don't wear shoes. Instead, be the person who sees the great potential while viewing the same situation.

Like I said earlier, what LeBron is doing is admirable. He is setting a good example of what a famous athlete can do with his fame and fortune.
That said, I want to see actual improvement in the school district. That is the barometer by which things should ultimately be judged. Clearly, there is room for improvement in Akron public schools. Read my post above or click on CHS's link for more details.
When 37% of students are proficient in reading, shouldn't we expect improvement? What is so bad about pointing that out?
If we throw a bunch of money at a problem and nothing changes, that can't be considered a success, no matter how well it was intended. If math/reading proficiency (or whatever other metric you want to go by) improve significantly, it will be money well spent! Can we at least agree on that?

Matthew 25:40 King James Version (KJV)
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
I think the bigger point here is that Labron is helping the kids who are doing the worst in their studies. Giving them an incentive and desire to learn. I understand your point, but it has to start somewhere. Some help is better than no help.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Every kid in those schools has the capacity to read if they are given the right teaching and the right motivation... difficult? yes. Impossible? no. I have no idea what the goals are for this new school. I'm pretty sure that LeBron is hoping every single one of them gets to take advantage of the college scholarship option... and that's not going to happen if they can't read.

I am not going to allow you to drag me down that road. It's up to you to gloss over the good and focus on the negative. Enjoy yourself.
However, I am not following you down that road. I have given my reasons for this line of thought several times. You are trying to turn the attention away from the positives of helping our children and I am not going to allow you to take me down that dark path.
I'm sure you can find a lot of company on your journey, though. Just read the comments after some of the articles.
