HELLO? HELLO? FISCAL CONSERVATIVES? ARE YOU THERE?

https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-apos-military-parade-estimated-151600544.html?guccounter=1

President Donald Trump's military parade this fall is shaping up to cost $80 million more than initially estimated.

The Department of Defense and its interagency partners have updated their perspective cost estimates for the parade, according to a U.S. defense official with firsthand knowledge of the assessment. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The parade, slated for Nov. 10, is estimated to cost $92 million, the official said. The figure includes $50 million from the Pentagon and $42 million from interagency partners such as the Department of Homeland Security. An initial estimate last month pegged the prospective cost for the parade at $12 million.

A Pentagon spokesman said in an email to CNBC that the Defense Department expects to make an announcement soon, but he would not comment further. The White House referred questions to the Defense Department.

The $92 million cost estimate includes security, transportation of parade assets, aircraft, as well as temporary duty, or TDY, for troops. The official also noted that while the size and scope of the military parade can still shift, the plans currently include approximately eight tanks, as well as other armored vehicles, including Bradleys, Strykers and M113s.

The official also said that experts put to rest concerns about whether the Abrams tank, which weighs just shy of 70 tons, would ruin infrastructure in Washington. Their analysis found that, because of the vehicle's distributed weight and track pads, the streets of the nation's capital would not be compromised.

The parade is also expected to include helicopter, fighter jet, transport aircraft as well as historical military plane flyovers. Troops in period uniforms representing the past, present and future forces will march in the parade, as well.

Inspiration from France
The ceremony is said to be largely inspired by Trump's front-row seat at France's Bastille Day military parade in Paris.

In September, Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron and recalled how much he enjoyed watching the parade. "It was a tremendous day, and to a large extent because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July 4 in Washington down Pennsylvania Avenue," Trump said.

"We're going to have to try to top it, but we have a lot of planes going over and a lot of military might, and it was really a beautiful thing to see, and representatives from different wars and different uniforms," he added.

The U.S. has not held a major military parade in Washington since 1991 to mark the end of Operation Desert Storm. The 1991 parade reportedly cost approximately $8 million and was paid for with about $3 million in government funds and the rest with private donations .

The $92 million figure dwarfs the $12 million estimate that was first reported by CNN last month. As noted at the time, the military parade was expected to cost as much as the "tremendously expensive" bilateral military exercise that Trump swiftly cancelled with South Korea in the wake of the historic Singapore summit.

"We save a fortune by not doing war games, as long as we are negotiating in good faith – which both sides are!" Trump tweeted after meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

After meeting with the reclusive leader from the North to negotiate a nuclear deal, Trump said: "I think it's inappropriate to be having war games. No. 1, we save money. A lot. And No. 2, it really is something that I think they [North Korea] very much appreciated." Trump also said that flying U.S. Air Force bombers in regional training missions is another drain on resources.

Trump's move falls out of step with the Pentagon, which has maintained that the joint exercises are routine, purely defensive and vital to maintaining readiness on the Korean Peninsula.

There are currently 28,500 U.S. troops stationed in South Korea, a legacy of the Korean War, which ended in 1953 in an armistice that left the two Koreas technically still at war.

This was a stupid idea at $12 million it's colossally stupid at $92 million.

You do know that the deficit has ballooned under Trump, right? He isn't saving us money at all.

This parade is about Trump, not the troops.

I thought Trump avoided WW3 with his superior negotiation skills?

There is no adequate way to describe how stupid this is... but to piggy-back on DC's comment, it would still be stupid at only $12.00.

SO traditionally, they toss handfuls of candy off the floats to all the kids....does that mean that in a military parade we can count on them tossing handfuls of ammunition into the crowd?

That could explain the high cost....ammo is expensive....

Pentagon postpones Trump's military parade

By Barbara Starr, Ryan Browne and Clare Foran, CNN

Updated 5:57 AM ET, Fri August 17, 2018

(CNN)The Department of Defense says the military parade originally scheduled for Veterans Day will be postponed.

"The Department of Defense and White House have been planning a parade to honor America's military veterans and commemorate the centennial of World War I," Defense Department spokesman Col. Rob Manning said in a statement Thursday. "We originally targeted November 10, 2018 for this event but have now agreed to explore opportunities in 2019."

The parade was scheduled for the day before the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the First World War. French President Emmanuel Macron is holding a gathering of world leaders in Paris on November 11 to celebrate the anniversary.

President Donald Trump said in February that a military parade in Washington would be "great for the spirit of the country," but that it would need to come at a "reasonable cost." The President said he was inspired by the Bastille Day parade in France, which he described as "quite something" after attending in 2017.

CNN previously reported that the parade would focus on celebrating veterans and involve US troops in period uniforms as well as US military aircraft but no heavy vehicles like tanks in order to prevent damage to infrastructure.

An administration official told CNN the $92 million figure for the US military parade, which was first reported by CNBC, was a planning estimate for an event that would meet President Donald Trump's intent. About half that amount would have been for non-military costs like security.

Defense Secretary James Mattis said the reports of a $92 million tab for the parade were not accurate while speaking to reporters Thursday while traveling in South America,
"I have not seen an estimate of $92 million, the estimates are coming to me, I've given the initial guidance, but I have received no such estimate ... I haven't received an estimate of 10 million or 92 million," Mattis told reporters, according to a pool report.

He added, "Whoever told you that is probably smoking something that's legal in my state but not in most states, OK?" Mattis is from Washington, where marijuana is legal for adults over the age of 21.

The White House would have been consulted on the decision to postpone the parade, the administration official said. Another official told CNN the Defense Department statement had been coordinated with the White House.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment about the postponement.

That price tag had sparked criticism from at least one prominent group.

On Thursday, the American Legion reacted to reports that the parade could cost tens of millions more than originally expected by saying the money would be better spent in other ways.

"The American Legion appreciates that our President wants to show in a dramatic fashion our nation's support for our troops," American Legion national commander Denise Rohan said in a statement. "However, until such time as we can celebrate victory in the War on Terrorism and bring our military home, we think the parade money would be better spent fully funding the Department of Veteran Affairs and giving our troops and their families the best care possible."

This story has been updated.

CNNs Maegan Vazquez contributed to this report.

And yet....the parade got postponed.

Which everyone knows is most likely...cancelled.

Trump has canceled the Parade due to it being to expensive.

"....attend the big parade already scheduled at Andrews Air Force Base on a different date, & go to the Paris parade, celebrating the end of the War, on November 11th. Maybe we will do something next year in D.C. when the cost comes WAY DOWN. Now we can buy some more jet fighters!"

No matter what? rofl The jackass needs a good bashing for asking for a military parade while our war veterans are waiting for healthcare and go hungry or end up homeless. But kneel for a national anthem and the deplorable come out of the woodwork and become unhinged about disrespecting the military. GMAFB thumbsdown

Your post is a joke.

All I did was laugh as his pathetic attempt to spin away the reasoning for the cancellation.

And btw, which is it, willit? Is it cancelled, or is it postponed?

Once again, you go after us but not after the president. You act like I’m the one who tweeted that nonsense. Kick rocks.

Why would I need to "go after him" ohhhhh scary....

unlike you and the other puppets with Obama, I can disagree with a subject and not blindly follow agree with everything he has done.

I have stated I couldn't care less about a parade in the past. I wouldn't do it, if they do that's their prerogative, no need to keep commenting on it or trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. It is what it is. But your pure hate wont allow to see your own hypocrisy.

You didn't want a parade because it was too expensive. Now trump is saying its too expensive, and your trying to bash him for not doing it, its rather hilarious to watch you try to squirm from agreeing with his decision.

your definition of "bash" and "squirm" seems to be highly different than the book definition.

also, do i need to post the definition of hypocrisy? there was nothing hypocritical about anything i said.

you sure you worked in the banking industry? cause i'd never let someone that ignorant handle my money.
