not with his dead cap costs... of 14.5 million.

next year we can cut him for 2.5 million in dead cap.

Did he have a sack last night?

Not a chance they are cutting him and putting 14m on the dead cap....especially when linebacker is literally the only position that has any depth.

Honestly I think both Peppers and Collins are going to be cut sooner than later... at least one of them.

Peppers returning kicks is a sad thing to see....

Avery is a pass rusher.

That is his strength. I am sure he is good at the run as well.

I doubt that he is a guy who will asked to cover very much.

Plus Kendricks is only on a 1 year deal and if we trade Collins and lose Kendricks in Free Agency next year then we will be hurting for LBs.

Yeah, I think we'll use Avery as a pass rusher and on special teams. The dude flashes on the screen.

They did have him in cover at least a couple of times. On one play, he saw the play developing, left his man, and made the play from the opposite side of the field. It was incredible. He also sets the edge very well.

I don't think we're cutting Collins, but man, Avery makes Collins look like his feet are stuck in mud.

#Browns Hue Jackson said LB Genard Avery has hip injury. Will miss "some time," not ready to rule him out for opener. Raving about how good he's been, says he'll contribute this season.

here was my thought when we signed Kendricks to a 1 year deal:

- IF Kendricks is good this year, then we sign him to a longer more lucrative contract
- We can then cut Collins more easily after this year and basically swap contracts

Why does no one want quality depth ? We may have excellent first teamers, but our second team sucks. Why does everyone worry about paying for depth ?

Salary structure. hard to keep guys and pay second contracts and pay back ups.

You have to manage the salary cap.

which is why it's important for us to keep a surplus ... we possibly have the contracts of Baker, Myles, Kendricks, Ogbah, etc on the horizon ... don't want to go TOO in right now

Skip to 0:45 seconds, watch Avery playing at the bottom of the screen beside Ogbah at DT.

That's utterly stupid. That's nuts. And that is against Lane Johnson, who is considered one of the best RTs in the league. We got this kid in the 5th round? THE 150TH PICK!? That play looks more like what I'd expect from the 5th pick, not the 150th.

Poor ol' Mike Jordon got his backside waxed on a slant, and that might have been 3rd & 12 conversion if Avery didn't somehow manage to damn near sack Foles into an inaccurate throw.

I can't stop watching that one play. I didn't realize just how good he played until I watched the replay.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EvPoqaYFjw

Here is the full replay if anyone is interested: Off topic here, but Avery alone is worth rewatching the game. Lord, have mercy.

Hue said today he wants him on the field. Genard could turn out to be something.

That sucks, the first link says video no longer available.

From what I saw when Avery was in, and I think I missed some snaps - but it was positive. Especially the strip play on Foles. Destroyed two people there and only moved in one direction, towards the QB. He looks incredibly powerful.

It is interesting to see Ogbah move inside and Avery come off the edge.

Greg Williams has a bunch of moveable parts.

He can do a variety of things to camouflage the defense. Lots of options to rush from.

The Browns defense is going to give offensive coordinator's headaches.

I am looking forward to watching these guys.

Feels weird, doesn't it?
I saw your thread. Appreciate the enthusiasm.
I'm not letting myself get there yet.
Been burned too many times.

I will say this, however: I'm actually looking forward to reg season games.

Ditto.
I'm not ready to take a 'three hour tour' with Diam to his isle, but I'm more than ready to see these guys, this TEAM, play on a Sunday.

rofl at the bolded part ... u mind if I steal that and use it in my marketing for the Isle ...

There will always be room for ALL DAWGS on the isle ... dawgs will get there at their own pace ... for Dawgs like yourself and Clem and Vers and many others it’s gonna take a wee bit longer than others ... and thats OK ... we’ll be ready for U when U are ...

And for Dawgs such as yourself that are not quite ready for the 3 hour tour to the Isle we have a wading pool at the half way point ... u can split the tour up ... thumbsup

Just remember Dawgs ...

By all means, please use it, lol! laugh

I'm not as far off as you may think.... I see the POTENTIAL in this group, and I see how that POTENTIAL could be about ready to explode and - to borrow a player quote from last season - "shock the world", but I want to see them take those last couple of steps and put it together before I buy my boat ticket smile

Rides have been more than paid for over the last 3 years ...

Everything’s been paid for by all dawgs over the last 20 years of misery on fall sunday afternoons ... now its time for the REWARD ..

Sheesh Purp ... i get so sad when I realize the Holy Grail for me is 6 - 8 wins ... thats just sad .. but yet i’m SO EXCITED all at the same time ...
