You "wish" someone would get cut. That's harsh. I think it's okay to "root" for guys to make the team, but wishing for a guy to get cut?

That's like, wishing for someone to get fired.

Wait! What?

I only wish he gets cut because that would make the Browns a better team because they would have better players on their roster. It is not personal to Jordan.

Please stop assuming the worst.

Browns cut Kendricks... wow... insider trading... we sure know how to keep it fresh while failing! I mean... there must be a curse right?

-----------------------------
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...g-cut-by-browns

Cleveland Browns linebacker Mychal Kendricks was released by the team Wednesday night hours after being charged with insider trading by the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Kendricks, along with co-defendant Damilare Sonoiki, were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and one count of securities fraud, per U.S. Attorney William McSwain.

Browns general manager John Dorsey released the following statement regarding the termination of Kendricks' contract:

"Prior to signing Mychal, we were informed that there was a financial situation that he had been involved with in 2014. We were told Mychal had fully cooperated with investigators as a victim. From what was communicated at that time and based on the numerous questions we asked and further due diligence on our part, including checking with the league office, there was no information discovered that conveyed otherwise.

"Recently, we were provided an update on the matter and the circumstances have changed. We are now dealing with a different set of facts and the additional information we’ve gathered has led us to the decision to release Mychal from our team. Due to the ongoing legal nature of this situation, we will have no further comments."

Kendricks allegedly profited just under $1.2 million by using material non-public information from McSwain, a banker at a global investment firm, to make investments during the period of July 2014 to March 2015. In exchange for the information, Kendricks gave McSwain $10,000 and Eagles tickets, per McSwain.

Kendricks played for the Eagles from 2012 to 2017 before signing a one-year deal with the Browns this offseason.

Wow. I thought Kendricks looked pretty damn good in the preseason games. He must have lied to the FO or something.

Nate plays more DE now we're in 4-3 scheme it's like. IMO, and even like Hard Knocks said, it's really a battle between him and Carl and Carl has the edge IMO.

Thoughts about moving Peppers to Olb and having some packages with both him and Kindred on the field at the same time? I really believe that Olb is going to be Peppers best position. Granted, he is undersized right now but in certain situations, thus package might have something to offer.

What releasing Mychal Kendricks means for the Browns

https://www.cleveland.com/expo/sports/er...l-kendrick.html

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It didn't take long for the Browns to release linebacker Mychal Kendricks. He was charged with insider trading on Wednesday.

Kendricks was supposed to be a key contributor. The Browns felt his impact early when he sacked Giants quarterback Eli Manning in the preseason opener and collected a tackle for loss. In the latest episode of Hard Knocks, he offered a spot on scouting report of his former team prior to the Browns forcing four turnovers in the first half against Philadelphia.

He's out of the picture now and the Browns have a roster to put together. So how does this impact them?
Position of depth

Linebacker is one of the few positions with true depth. Christian Kirksey, Joe Schobert and Jamie Collins are returning starters. Rookie Genard Avery's ascent was fast until his recent hip injury.

While Collins hasn't lived up to the hype that came with his acquisition in 2016, the starting trio is good enough. Avery does many of the things Kendricks did, sans the experience.
It opens a spot

Kirksey always goes out of his way to mention James Burgess when the group of linebackers is brought up. Losing Kendricks almost guarantees Burgess a spot on the 53-man roster if he didn't have one already.

Burgess played well in place of Collins last year, especially when he was playing downhill, similar to Kendricks.

The real winner is B.J. Bello. If the Browns plan to keep six linebackers, Bello is likely No. 6.

The loss hurts, but ...

... Kendricks was a luxury on a team that doesn't have many. I wondered if the Browns might consider trading a linebacker before Saturday with their surplus at the position.

That surplus is gone, but the sting of this loss is lessened by Avery.

Avery has to get healthy and stay healthy, but he can make an impact if he does.

It's difficult to lose a player expected to contribute. The Browns lost a player in one of the few areas where they could afford to take a hit.
Do the Browns need to make a move?

Not necessarily. Kendricks was a late addition and the Browns seemed content going into the season with the group they had before his signing. Whether they view linebacker as a position that needs addressing longterm or not, there's no need for a kneejerk reaction.

J/C

I saw some tweets today saying the Browns had to cut Kendricks because, at best, he'll take an early guilty plea and serve 12 to 18 months. Fight it and lose, could serve 7 to 10 years.

I actually feel sorry for him. I believe his statement that he fell for the charisma of someone who was supposedly an expert in the area. He admitted that he knew what he was doing was wrong, but it wouldn't shock me if the guy was able to trick Kendricks into thinking it was more a grey-ambiguous kind of wrong that was standard practice.

Still, based on what I've seen, the guy has made over $25M in his career and now looks set to serve a prison sentence for insider trading that netted him just $1.2M.

If the guy kept playing like he was, I'd bet he would have seen at least triple that per year in the near future. He was putting together a very strong preseason and establishing himself as a great leadership presence.

Damn shame.

Good post, I was excited when we signed him. And he seemed to be playing well for us. Whole situation has me shaking my head, as we finally had great depth at linebacker.

We still have great depth at linebacker. As good as Kendricks was playing, we've seen some great stuff from Avery, Burgess and Bello.

Personally, I think Avery and Kendricks are both clearly a level above Burgess and Bello, but I'm not worried about our depth.

Even without the need for depth, Avery and Burgess were going to play anyway, and Bello was going to be a "hate to have to do it" cut anyway.

Kendricks is undoubtedly a loss, but I really don't think it disrupts the strength of the unit.

If I could choose one spot to lose a player, it would be this one. With that said, Kendricks definitely disrupts the strength of the unit. The versatility that was previously there is not there as much now that Kendricks is gone.

Yeah as really hope that Kendricks will learn from this. And move on. Heard he may serve less than a year in prison.

Yes, we have some depth at LB ... but Kendricks was our best, most athletic LB IMO ... we can't cover RBs out of the backfield and he was going to help in that area.

J/c ... not sure where to put this ... since Gordon Gecko make this possibly a smidge more possible i figured why not here ...

Khalil Mack - DL - Raiders

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Raiders are "giving the impression" to teams they want two first-round picks for holdout DE Khalil Mack.

Pelissero says Oakland received "a bunch of calls" regarding Mack's availability in recent days, but GMs are turned off by Jon Gruden's asking price. No team is going to part with two first-rounders for Mack, especially when they also have to make him one of the league's highest-paid players. Perhaps a deal could happen if the Raiders dropped their asking price to a first- and a third-round pick, but that's not yet in the cards. Yahoo's Charles Robinson recently reported Mack is "likely" to miss regular season games.

I don't know where Mack will end up, but most likely not here. Our 1st round pick is way higher than most other teams plus he'd want a higher salary to come here ... so the cost for us is way higher than other teams

come on dawg ... the sun will be up soon .. literally .. *L* ... its not near that bad .. no doubt this hurts .. but its not devastating ...

This is like when your team reminds u its made up of teen age males and does the exact opposite of everything you’ve taught them for 4 straight minutes and the other team goes on a 7 - 0 mini run ... u call a TO handle your teen angers in a way u know they will respond ... thumbsup

This hurts ... were not as talented as we were yesterday ... no way to sugar coat it ... but we still have PLENTY OF TALENT on this team RIGHT NOW ...

That is ONE of the DIFFERENCES about this team ... in years past losing a player of Kendricks talent level would have been a death knell .... this year its a speed bump ... thumbsup

Your points are valid Diam ... this is not devastating like it would be in years past, though I was encouraged by him to be honest ... he was one of the better players we had IMO.

(and yes, more often than not my players have teenage moments)

This team is nowhere near as talented as you are claiming.

They are more respectable now, but I think people are overrating the talent simply due to how horrible the talent was the last two years. Either that, or they want to fire the HC and are pretending that the talent level is so good.

j/c...

I wish all this "CURSE" bs will stop.

I really liked Kendricks, a lot. Now we know why the Eagles cut him as well. At least this happened now and we have options so if this truly was a curse, it would have been after the Trade Deadline and Kendrick established himself as a key to our Defense.

Now I'm real happy Collins had his best game in a long time. Again curse? Signing Kendricks possibly awoken a sleeping Giant in Collins. It does not cripple us in any shape or form. Shame and its not a usual offense from a football player, White Collar Crime...smh

If only he knew NASSIB, Carl? Carl??? earlier this could have been all avoided.

I hope Blake Jackson makes the team, but only because of that skit he did where he recreated Landry's speech to the WRs. Man, I just watched the video of it again and it's still hilarious! brownie

U say 5 or 6 wins ... i say 6 - 8 ... we intersect .... were pretty close in how good we think we are ..

I’m not saying were ready to be SB contenders ... or even challenge for the division or a playoff spot ...

Were talking 6 - 8 wins, not a SB run and u think were capable of 6 ...

WERE NOT FAR APART in terms of how good we think we are ... WERE VERY CLOSE ..

You’ve even said were improved and things are different from watching hard knocks ... i think were “SLIGHTLY” better than u do ... but not by much ...

What am i missing bro? ... i don’t get where theres this HUGE GAP in how much talent we have ... please ... enlighten me to this wide chasm i’m missing ... wink
