Your points are valid Diam ... this is not devastating like it would be in years past, though I was encouraged by him to be honest ... he was one of the better players we had IMO.
(and yes, more often than not my players have teenage moments) Well, seeing as how there teenagers its as good of time as any to have teenage moments ... *L* ... I LOVED KENDRICKS ... he’s gonna be missed ... he could do a lot of things and was going to be a nice “piece” to have ... he WILL BE SORELY MISSED .... he gave us INCREDIBLE FLEXIBILITY and DEPTH .. The good thing is ... we dont have as much flexibility as a D but we still have WAY MORE THEN ENOUGH flexibility ... we have plenty of talent and flexibility to still do plenty of things ... just not as many ... its like we top out at 140 now instead of 160 ...

I think the gap is still in our depth. I don't think our starters will have any issues matching up against anyone in the NFL... however, I think our biggest issues, which I think will show are in the trenches on both sides of the ball. We need Oline help and we need more depth on the DLine.
Starting 0-3 wouldn't be a disparaging difference in talent that we might be used to.

Agree with everything u just said ... EVERYTHING ... Even the last part if we lose to the jets .. problem with that is if we lose to the jets we could really be screwed ... we gotta beat them with a guy making his 3rd career start or were not that good ... I wish we played the Chefs earlier .... Mahomes will get better each week ... the jump each week will be minimal but the difference between the guy u see in week 1 will be huge compared to the guy u see in week 10 ..

Wow. I thought Kendricks looked pretty damn good in the preseason games. He must have lied to the FO or something. The Browns don't put up with a problem child.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

You're right in that we aren't that far apart on our predictions of how many games we are going to win. There are some reasons why we are seemingly disagreeing.
1. While I am predicting we win 5 or 6 games, I think it is more likely that we win 3 than us winning 8 or 9. I think you see it the other way around.
2a. You said something like us being 3 and 2 or 2 and 3 after 5 games. You could be right, but I see that as unlikely. As of right now, I am fairly certain that are underdogs in each of the first 5 games.
2b. I see this young team who has only won 1 game in the past two years and having many new parts taking time to get their act together. I can envision us becoming better and better as the season progresses.
3. I place a lot of importance on the quarterbacks in the NFL. I think we are weak in this area. Improved from last year, but I don't think our QB is going to win us games. Frankly, I am having a hard time getting beyond this one.
4. While I try and fight the urge, I'm a damn homer, too. LOL I look at all the national power rankings and we are either at the very bottom, or very near the bottom, in all of them. You may scoff at this one, but I went to FanDuel to create some daily leagues yesterday, and our guys are ranked so low. I think we might be guilty of overestimating our talent and I think a lot of that has to do w/just how devoid of talent/experience we were last year. Most importantly, Vegas has us w/the longest odds of winning our division. You gotta bet more money than you would win on the Steelers. The Rats are second and even the Bengals have better odds of winning the division than the Browns do. There are legit reasons for all of the above, Diam.
5. I reply to you because you are not as sensitive as others. When you talk over and over about how good our talent is and the Isle of Optimism, many people forget what your prediction for our win total is. They see all your optimism and visions of the playoffs and/or a large number of wins.
With all of that said, I am more optimistic about the team than I have been in over a decade. I think they will struggle to win games this year, but we have done the following:
--significantly upgraded the talent and experience.
--Have a very good coaching staff.
--Have a FO that is better than the previous ones.
--Have a GM and HC who are working together.
--We finally have ownership showing some stability. I credit a lot of that to Dee becoming more involved w/the team.
--We still have money and future draft picks to look forward to.
The key, in my opinion, is to not raise the expectations too high this year and fire more people. Firing guys has been a HUGE factor in why we have been so poor over the years. New hires equate to roster upheaval and we lose talented young guys and key vets to bring in new guys. I am preaching patience w/this group. I want to see them get a chance and I feel that unfair expectations could lead to the mob calling for more changes. That is the last thing we need.
[I feel this conversation we are having would be better if it was in your Optimism thread rather than the "Cut" thread.] I'm going to paste it on that thread. Hope that is okay?]

j/c: Browns’ GM John Dorsey regularly rounded out his roster in Kansas City with multiple moves on this weekend. Expect more of the same from him in Cleveland this weekend. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1035506144951853056

Some overarching thoughts on the roster:
- I'd like the Browns to keep 4 RBs, and Dayes > Hillard.
- I'd like to see Shon Coleman make the roster and keep Harrison over Robinson. Side note: Apparently the team is in love with Harrison and seems him as their future, long-term LT.
- I think both Nassib and Orchard make it.
- I think Currie makes it over Bello.
- Devalve > Cajuste (although, based on DeValve's injury, he may start the season on the PUP list with Cajuste holding a spot until he returns?)
- McKinnion > Jordan
- I'd rather give the final WR spot to one of the younger guys with upside than Jeff Janis. He has been disappointing.
Hopefully we're able to keep some of the players on the practice squad and not lose them to other teams. There are definately some close shaves.

This team is nowhere near as talented as you are claiming.
They are more respectable now, but I think people are overrating the talent simply due to how horrible the talent was the last two years. Either that, or they want to fire the HC and are pretending that the talent level is so good. Bro ... i dont get it ... U say 5 or 6 wins ... i say 6 - 8 ... we intersect .... were pretty close in how good we think we are .. I’m not saying were ready to be SB contenders ... or even challenge for the division or a playoff spot ... Were talking 6 - 8 wins, not a SB run and u think were capable of 6 ... WERE NOT FAR APART in terms of how good we think we are ... WERE VERY CLOSE .. You’ve even said were improved and things are different from watching hard knocks ... i think were “SLIGHTLY” better than u do ... but not by much ... What am i missing bro? ... i don’t get where theres this HUGE GAP in how much talent we have ... please ... enlighten me to this wide chasm i’m missing ... Welcome to my World...lol
1. Talent. We got a lot of Impact drafted players actually real football players.
2. We've made the most of our FA signings from Dorsey except of course Kendricks but who knew?
There has to be still a little period of continuity with players so that they have more time working together, knowing the system and knowing each other (Trust) is so important in football.
We got a lot of talent and its not because of what we've had in the past. The talent is real. And a lot of the talent fit together and once they become a working MACHINE watch out. This is a team that will be around for a long time.
Expectations...Look I'm a homer I expect to win every game. But I am more sound then given credit for. I bleed with every loss but I get off the ground after the remorse period eases. I don't know why POSITIVE guys have to curb their Enthusiasms. Just to appease the Negative guys. That cannot be used as a reason why THEIR OPINION is more Realistic, Better and makes them Right???
I have no desire to be MORE REALISTIC as a fan. That is not why I love my team and watch the games. Who cares if I'm right or wrong.
Expectations...I truly think we will win our Division. Reality? The first game will tell a lot!

Roster guesses:
OFFENSE QB Tyrod Taylor Baker Mayfield Drew Stanton (PS) Brogan Roback
RB Carlos Hyde Duke Johnson Jr. Nick Chubb (PS) Matthew Dayes (PS) Dontrell Hilliard
FB Danny Vitale
WR: Jarvis Landry Josh Gordon Rashard Higgins Antonio Callaway Damion Ratley (cut)Derrick Willies (cut)Jeff Janis (PS)C.J. Board (cut)Da'Mari Scott (PS)Blake Jackson
LT Joel Bitonio Greg Robinson (cut)Desmond Harrison
LG Austin Corbett (cut)Avery Gennesy (cut)Fred Lauina
C JC Tretter Austin Reiter (cut)Anthony Fabiano
RG Kevin Zeitler Spencer Drango
RT Chris Hubbard Shon Coleman (cut)Christian DiLauro
TE David Njoku Seth DeValve Darren Fells Devon Cajuste (cut)Orson Charles (cut)Stephen Baggett
That puts us at 25 for the Offense. I like Cajuste as a receiving option better than any of the potential 6th option receivers. I almost would prefer keeping Dayes or Hillard over Vitale as well and just not having a FB on the roster.
DEFENSE DE Myles Garrett Chris Smith Nate Orchard
DT Larry Ogunjobi Jamie Meder Caleb Brantley Trevon Coley (PS)Jeremy Faulk (cut)Zaycoven Henderson (cut)Daniel Ekuale (cut)Blaine Woodson
DE Emmanuel Ogbah Carl Nassib Chad Thomas (cut)Lenny Jones
WILL Christian Kirksey Genard Avery (cut)Jermaine Grace
MIKE Joe Schobert James Burgess Jr. Justin Currie
SAM Jamie Collins Sr. B.J. Bello (cut)Brady Sheldon
CB Denzel Ward Terrance Mitchell E.J. Gaines T.J. Carrie Simeon Thomas (PS)Jeremiah McKinnon (cut)Mike Jordan (cut)Denzel Rice (cut)Christian Boutte
S Damarious Randall Jabrill Peppers Briean Boddy-Calhoun Derrick Kindred (cut)Derron Smith (cut)Tigie Sankoh (PS)Elijah Campbell (cut)Montrel Meander
Defensive End is the toughest call here. I want to put Orchard on the team but I have no idea who he would bump to do it. Chris Smith hasn't had a "bad" pre-season, but he's been somewhat anonymous too. I think Nassib makes the team too. I decided to keep 6 here and go with 26 defenders. I've got 4 safeties listed too, but BBS is sort of a CB/S. Add too that a kicker and a punter and that's a 53 man roster.

I'd keep Harrison over Robinson as the back up LT (4 years of poor play and a mediocre preseason, sorry Greg).
hmmm...Bello or Currie...no worries, they're both practice squad eligible.
I'd probably keep CJ Board over Cajuste, too. But again both guys are eligible for the practice squad.
Ugh...I can't figure out who to drop from the O-line...so be it..

I expect a fair number of cuts today just to insure that we have room to file our 1st priority waiver claim for other teams cuts.
Dorsey doesn't seem like the "wait and see" kind of guy.
Than again, with the earlier cuts we probably already have the waiver claim space.

I would tend to agree with you but usually the "obvious cuts" come early. Guys with more talent who are on the edge of making the roster are harder determinations to make and usually come later in the process.

Roster guesses:
LT Joel Bitonio Greg Robinson (cut)Desmond Harrison
Like others above, I would be surprised if they cut Harrison. The combination of abilities/qualities necessary to play LT in the NFL are rare. Harrison appears to have them, he's just raw and needs some experience. Robinson has 4 years of NFL tape that shows he is lacking. I think the position is so critical, and the combination so rare, that you take Harrison's promise over Robinson's experience

one of the most over rated late rd draft picks of the Browns since the return he made a unblocked tackle at the goal line next thing you know hes being elevated to "what a steal by Farmer draft pick" status. him and Carder LJ Fort all the same.

I don't want to cut Devalve, but he missed a lot of preseason. I think he must first make the '53'...then he can go to IR and the 53rd spot opens back up. (I think you already know that.) If he never officially practiced...he could go straight to PUP list. But I think he practiced at least one day.
