Week 1 is in the books .... and a DIFFERENT week 1 it was ...
The reason i started this thread was cause so many dawgs were so down on this team solely caused we’ve sucked for so long ... well the thread title and the first word in the thread sum it up perfectly:
TALENT is why we have reason to FINALLY be OPTIMISTC ....
And in week 1 ... THEY PROVED IT ... regardless of the WARTS and there were PLENTY of them .... many dawgs including two i respect very much Vers and Pit (I’m over the classless thing .. PLEASE don’t do it again ... i don’t care what u say or how u treat me ... he didn’t deserve that .. NO ONE DOES EVER!!! ) ... saw the talent also ....
WE ALL knew it was there ... i didn’t say anything EVERYONE didn’t know ... i was just the one dumb enough to say it out loud before we saw the proof ... *L* ...
So to answer your question 4-life ...
NO ... I AM NOT ONE OUNCE LESS OPTIMISTIC after week 1 ... i see we have some warts i didn’t expect to see ... but thats always the case ...
Here is what i saw that has my OPTIMISM as HIGH as it was before week 1 ...
FIRST AND FOREMOST .. and man ... i did not see this coming .. BUT HOLY CRAP IS IT HUGE AND was it ever EVIDENT ...
- This team has an ATTITUDE ... we are NO LONGER your DOORMATS ... u come to C-Town u best STRAP IT THE F UP ... break out all the cliches ... bring your hard hat, lunch and u may even need the kitchen sink ... *L* ...
I LOVE THAT ...
Vice Grips and oh my .. THE ROOKIE WARD ... he has the tude of a 7 year VET out there ... love it ... u best punch that man in the mouth first cause he’s gonna punch u and punch u hard regardless ...
- We played a very good OL in HORRIBLE CONDITIONS for our edge rushers and we were still able to reek havoc ... ARE U KIDDING ME with that pressure when they couldn’t really push off or make “quick” moves ..
I can’t wait to see them this week on turf ...
- thats as bad as TT will play and we still managed a tie ...
- WARDS A STUD ... he has a shot to end up the very best player in this draft .. as much as I LOVE Fitz and as bad as i wanted him ... if i knew how good Ward was ... FUGGOT ABOUT IT he says in his NY accent .... *LOL* ..
DUDE HAS A SHOT TO BE A STUD AMONGST THE STUDS ...
There was plenty of WARTS ... PLENTY ... but dawgs ...
Your all still focusing on the negatives WAY TO MUCH ... think about this for real dudes and Eve ... I think shes about the only female here .. *L* ..
We tied Pit .. and we were a block in the back and a blocked FG on the last play of the game AWAY FROM A W ...
I don’t care what we did wrong, how lucky we got (IMO we did it the old fashioned way ... we EARNED it .. it was UGLY thats for sure .. but it was NO FLUKE like last year ... ) ..
I’m expecting a VERY ROUGH WEEK this week ... its a real shame that NO got there butts whooped last week .. a real shame ...
I’ll be back next week to answer the same question 4-life ... only difference is in about a month there will be one heck of a lot more dawgs ENJOYING the ISLE ..
Where the sky is always blue and the waters always warm ...
HERE WE GO BROWNINES HERE WE GO ... WOOF WOOF!!!!!!!
I am not as rah-rah as you are, but I am more optimistic about the team after watching game one.
I think you brought up a good point that we played w/an attitude. We were very aggressive. We were physical. We played faster. We got after it.
We do have some talent on the team now. The roster is much improved.
I still have some concerns. They are:
--the qb position
--the distraction of a possible qb controversy
--the team having to learn how to win games
and
--the distraction of people campaigning to get Hue fired.
Those are tough things for a young team to deal with. However, if we can weather the storm, I think the future is bright because we have upgraded the talent, have more team speed, and are getting after guys w/more attitude and physicality.
I have no clue what to post now...do I go NEGATIVE...lol
Finally got a leg to stand on. Yeah and its always been about talent. Diam you taught me that oh like 16 years ago.
It like over night although we did have some really good looking young players who now are coming into their own. Starting with Garrett regardless of what PFF states. Sorry I barely saw Avery and don't see how he could grade out better as Garrett had them reeling the entire game.
Ward I tried to tell all how speed kills and the kid does have speed and it was a great pick. CB all day over Safety.
The defense has a good mix even guys with lesser talent. Like Schobert who does not get much love here cause of that average talent. But what is not seen is his Football Intelligence. The players have so much confidence in him. I've heard so many things from players. Basically he is calling the offensive plays as the line up. It also totally messes with the Offensive players minds as well.
As Diam stated we will have a fast track. I would like to see our DTs really messing this thing up for the Saints. Avery will be big time (don't want to see too much of Smith 50) Cause our DTs should be forcing Brees to break out of the pocket and he does it going to his right almost always. Garret going round the edge will be big cause he is fast enough to continue across the back of the pocket and catch brees from behind with that pattented swoop of the arm to cause a fumble. But Avery has to be key getting into the passing lanes an causing Brees to throw around him.
Hopefully we will overload the right side a lot so we will have two key passing lanes filled by our DE and OLB/SS
jmho - Will I still be nervous shaking my leg as I sit YES, but it won't surprise me one bit if we dominate!
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
The one thing that's certainly true is that no team has super stars at every position. You need those average to above average players on your roster.
Two things I feel are very important to me that I see being addressed by Dorsey.....
1. You do need a core of impact players. I don't think we're done addressing that but I believe we see a basis of that.
2. You need to churn the bottom of your roster to try to improve the quality of depth on your roster. Once a player has been in your system for two or three years, I think you can start to see what their ceiling will be. If you feel there are players available that may have a higher ceiling, I think you need to make those moves. To me, that's exactly what happened with Orchard and Nassib.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
Always upgrading when ever you can. I think finally we got a Foundation to build on and of course continue to bring in players...FA and hit on those 1st n 2nd round picks as they are the IMPACT players. But also do a good job to get a middle to late rounder to grow and excel.
Dorsey in one short year has changed this team forever. It is forming a CHARACTER....speed, Nasty, and it will grow from here on and the players have to fit!

The game of football… American football… was born in the mold of it’s people. But somewhere along the way, substance gave way to style. In it’s very soul, football is still about believing in hard work, tenacity and grit. That you get what you give and through dedication and perseverance you will have your day. Because, despite any losses, belief is and will always be undefeated. Some people think that the game of football… American football… doesn’t exist anymore. Those people, well, they haven’t been to Cleveland. The Browns welcome you to the Hardland of America.

This is actually a killer point that deserves attention. People are so busy attributing the loss (Well, it's being treated like one, so Pittsburgh win by default) to the lack of perfection that they're ignoring how well the team can position themselves in spite of imperfect play.
It wasn't that long ago this team would need to play perfectly to even get close to a win. How nice it is to see some grit and determination to hang in there and force the issue on a game in which the play was far from perfect.
What that tells me is this team has caught up in terms of talent and coaching. It's just errors and consistency that need to be overcome.
It's reason enough for optimism alone to see the competitiveness of this team - even more so that it doesn't have to be an aberration of competitiveness spurred by an inexplicably strong performance. This team, as it stands, can just outright compete. Even with the warts.
Were ahead of Pitt in the standings ... nuff said ...
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
Three of my biggest concerns reared their ugly heads after yesterday's game.
1. The calls to fire Hue were voiced despite him not making a single mistake.
2. A few people were trashing Taylor even though he played a pretty decent game.
3. We found a way to lose a game we should have won. Hard to overcome epic losing.
With that said, this team is playing pretty good football. The D is legit. The O needs time to jell. But, we're playing hard and playing fast. We have a chance if we can keep the haters at bay.
Well I guess this goes back to something I tell my kids on a weekly basis - you can only control what you do, think and say. No point getting upset with someone or what someone says when it's so ignorant.
I have not seen a lot or anyone calling for Hue to be fired. I have seen people (wrongly) suggesting Thursday is a "must win" for Hue. And I have seen people critical of TT - blaming him for the play calling and loss.
Reality is we are a good kicker away from being 2-0.
I think that's plenty of reason for optimism. I think if we can win 2 out of the next 3 .... maybe 3 out of 3 - we will lose the monkey on our back. Culture of losing is a big deal to overcome but winning will cure it pretty fast especially if we continue to improve.

Haters gonna hate dawg ... not gonna wallow with them in their misery .. they can “enjoy” each other’s company ...
Its gotta really STINK to be them ... so much negative energy for no reason what so ever ... they still think the 1 - 31 counts ... ... poor souls ...

Its a real shame he had to have a stinker in week 1 ... he fed right into what U and I have been preaching who TT is since day 1 ... so now every mistake he makes will be magnified ... and he is who he is ...
We saw the TT we’ll see most games this week ... first game he was consistently bad ... last game he was simply inconsistent .. but thats who he is ...
Having known who TT is for a few years ... its funny watching bone and tabber discovering who he is ... *L*

I was very saddened when they panned over to the sidelines when the wheels were coming off ... disheartened would be a better word ... they looked SHELL SHOCKED like they didnt know how to react ...
We turned over 60% of the roster ... yesterday it looked like the 40% influenced the 60% as opposed to the other way around ... *L* ..
Dang kicker could have EXCORSISED those ghosts from seasons past and we’d have turned the corner ...
9/20 sounds like a GREAT TIME FOR AN EXCORSISM ...

I’m thinking that Dorsey and the thief have proven there not haters ... at least not yet as Hue has given them ZERO REASON to be haters thus far this year ...
Your in trouble dawg ... Hue’s like Mr. President .. it don’t matter what he does .. some are gonna HATE REGARDLESS ... and thats a shame but only two people matter when it comes to Mr. Jackson ...
GOOD LUCK HUE ... GO GET UM ...
Hope he considers my invitation to speak at the end of the year Isle of Optimism banquet ...
And ya’all might *L* at me and think i’m out of my mind ... whats new ... *L* ..
But to me ... the FACT this is the first game in over 3 years I’ve actually WANTED TO GO RE-WATCH tells me there is definetly REASONS TO BE OPTIMISTIC ..

A good kicker away from 2-0 .... how can there not be optimism?

I've been digging deep for that optimism... I think I'm digging a tunnel to your island.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
I just sense this team is on the verge of victory. The team is playing hard. They are competing against teams with elite offenses and holding their own. They are about to turn that corner.

I been waiting two weeks for this brother ... TWO WEEKS WE SHOULD HAVE WON IN ... oh man .. i wish we had won one of them so i could break this out ... but i can wait NO LONGER ...

Agree. It's exciting to see how competitive the team is. Frankly, we're a couple of little mistakes away from being 2-0 while starting the season against two Superbowl contending teams who boast pretty damn complete rosters.
Still, we could be sitting a 1-1-1 by Thursday night's end. That's not ideal, but I think it's far from the disaster that it's being treated as.
It's early in the season. At best, the division will shape up as this heading in to week four.
At this point of the season, we're still alive. What we have come to learn, however, is that we can realistically be in every damn game.
We've not won a game, but this doesn't feel like a team that hasn't won a game. It feels like a team who could be leading the division if only for a little more consistency.
I don't understand why some people are so upset with the Browns. This team is clearly turning the corner, they're young, they're fighting hard, and they're getting there.
optimism we have produced 8 turnovers made big ben look like kizer and made Brees look ordinary
pessimism we have 10 pts off those 8 turnovers Tyrod was signed because he doesnt turn it over turned it over in both games at critical times in the 4th

I get that some folks on this board don't care for me, but I don't think anyone [maybe Memphis] would deny that I know a lot about football. Swish and I were messaging the other day and I said something like knowing a lot about football isn't exactly saying much. It's not all that important.
So, I didn't say the above to brag. I said it to set-up what I am about to say.
This team is close. We have upgraded the talent. We are not quite there yet, but we are so much better than we have been in years. We have a good FO. We have a very good coaching staff. We have players that are playing w/passion.
Bottom line.........we are on finally on the right track. And it upsets me that we have so many fans trying to derail the team. Making it worse, it's the same fans who were saying we were on the right track while the team really sucked.
It seems to me that it is about being right instead of being truthful.
My son is a huge Steeler fan. Much of my family is as well. My wife is from SW PA. A lot of their friends are Steeler fans. They used to make fun of the Browns. They used to feel sorry for us at other times.
That is no longer the case. They see what's happening w/the Browns. They see the influx of talent. They see how we are playing hard. They see how good the D is.
I told my son we were in the running for K. Mack. He said: "Thank God. That would not have even been fair." And my son knows football.
Maybe it's time for the Sashi guys to let it go. He is not coming back. Even if you get Hue and Dorsey fired, Sashi will not be rehired. Maybe it's freaking time to get behind the team and stop calling for changes.
The same types of changes that have plagued this franchise for decades.

Heck Vers....before you know it you might have tickets to The isle!!
